  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Owners: What vehicle did your Genesis replace?

Well after 22 years of getting the Honda Accord (5X at the high end -minus nav), I went with the V6 Tech. My wife couldn't believe I would actually trade in my Honda for something else. Frankly this was the first time in years that I was really excited about getting another car. I always wanted the luxury but gagged if I had to pay $40/50+ to get it. The Genesis gave me that opportunity. Yes I paid another 10 grand than what I would have normally but I thought it was well worth the upgrade. I hoping that the Genesis will not only be very successful but still be affordable years from now. I could very well buy a string of these cars well into the future.

Another Accord driver here. My Accord (which isn't really mine, but belongs to a family member) is still my daily driver. I have an '02 EX.

I still think Accords are the best midsize cars available - though they are NOT the paragon of affordable luxury/superb performance/top-notch quality that Honda fanatics make them out to be. Yes, the Accord is well-appointed and reasonably priced, and Honda's engine technology is the best. But Accords are NOT sports cars, and they do have occasional body/trim issues.

I do need to eventually replace my Accord, just not right away. Too bad there won't be a hybrid Accord again for a while... If my Genesis turns out to be good (and so far it has been), I'll go back to a Hyundai dealership for either the Elantra Touring or the '11 Sonata Hybrid. (Or even the Azera, and have it rebadged as a "Grandeur.")

What was your previous vehicle(s) and what did/are you comparing with your Hyundai

As the title shows, I was curious to see what you compared to your Hyundai before you bought it (if you currently have one) and/or what what you previously have owned.

I do not currently have one, but am a big fan of the Genesis sedan and coupe.

I have always been a Subaru owner (7 Subaru's - 3 of them WRX's and one Legacy GT turbo).

I am currently driving my wife's Wrangler (recently bought her a 4 door Wrangler since it was her dream car) to drive for awhile and then will buy myself something else.

:mods, feel free to move this thread if it would be better served elsewhere:

Re: What was your previous vehicle(s) and what did/are you comparing with your Hyunda

I'm pretty sure there is another thread going on this subject.

P.S. I had a Wrangler once. It was the most dangerous car I have ever owned. I nearly tipped it over into oncoming traffic. I think it was a 1988 (maybe 1987). I got rid of it real quick after I almost killed my self.

Re: What was your previous vehicle(s) and what did/are you comparing with your Hyunda

I thought there might have been another one, but didnt see it after a quick search.

We have owned many Wranglers (7 to be exact)...mostly for my wife. She loves them.

Your old one would have been the VERY old suspension (leaf springs, etc) The new suspension (97 and above) is much better and the 2007 + models are even better and have 4 wheel disc standard, stability control and the 4 door models even have a roll mitigation program.

No time to spare. Did the list while waiting on dinner. ;)

No dupes as far as I know. I may have left out 1 or 2, and I wouldn't be surprised if I have a typo or 2 in there.

I traded a 2007 Mazdaspeed 6. There's your duplicate.:D

I traded my 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro (89,000 miles) for Cabernet Red V8 Tech Pkg. Wife has 2006 Azera.

Re: What was your previous vehicle(s) and what did/are you comparing with your Hyunda

For me to buy a Hyundai, or any other Asian vehicle for that matter, would've been unthinkable.

My driver's ed car was a Toyota Corolla, which I drove until my sister totalled it in a drunk driving accident. I hated that thing - way too wobbly, lackluster performance, no amenities. Toyota's reliability was the only thing going for it, but the fact was that my high school classmates/friends were getting the Honda Civic, a vastly superior vehicle in all aspects, for less.

For a while, I insisted on the European philosophy, emphasizing razor-sharp handling. My first car was a Ford Contour, which of course was the Americanized Ford Mondeo. It was indeed fun to drive - but Ford cut too many corners to sell me that thing for $16K; it should've cost $25K and above, but no American wants a smallish Ford at that price.

I moved on to the epitome of razor-sharp European handling, a BMW 3-series. And if BMW weren't such an a-hole of a corporation, I'd still be insisting on the 3-series. Not only did I get fed up with BMW itself, but I also started to hate the 3-series' high price tag and its relatively lower content (cut-rate ergonomics of the newest 3-series, rock-hard ride, and so forth).

My decision to sell my 3-series came when I was 6,000 miles away from home on an extended trip - South Korea, to be exact. Even before leaving for South Korea, I had been driving a number of Japanese vehicles stateside, including a Honda Accord and a Toyota Prius, and had decided that I could give up a bit of performance for the vastly superior Asian ergonomics. (And that while the Corolla was a grossly overrated POS, most other Asian cars weren't.) And after soaking in the Korean culture and having surprisingly good interactions with the locals, I decided that a Hyundai might be the car that I need, and decided on the Genesis, as I had a sizable savings account that I was willing to blow on a new car. A few days later, a nine-day road trip in a Sonata pretty much sealed the deal, and I made sure to contact CarsDirect to place an order for my Genesis a week before leaving South Korea.

Never really cross-shopped other vehicles, as the Genesis is in a class of its own. Comparable vehicles cost too much, and comparably priced vehicles require too many sacrifices. If I had to get something other than the Genesis, however, my shopping list would've consisted of the Audi A4 and the Infiniti G. A Subaru may have been a longshot choice too.

Re: What was your previous vehicle(s) and what did/are you comparing with your Hyunda

I owned a 1998 Toyota Avalon for four years and sold it to a private party when I bought my current daily driver, a 2002 Infiniti I35 with the Sport Package. The car just hit 53K so I'm in the market for a replacement vehicle and will be looking closely at both the coupe and 4-door Genesis when I attend the NY Auto Show in April. The Genesis is a lot of car for the money but I'll be looking at the Avalon again as well as the Infiniti G37. :)

If I buy a Genesis it will replace my '02 Infiniti I35 with Sport Package. Opps, I see I've already posted here. Sorry about that.

We currently own: 2006 E55 AMG (which we shipped back home to Korea), 2003 E46 M3 (which is in Boston), and now the Genesis. We are thinking about selling the M3.

I traded in my '07 Honda Fit Sport with only 24 000Km on it for the Genesis 2.0 GT

My 4.8/Tech replaced the lawnmower in the garage... it got kicked out to make room for the Genesis. No trades; I kept my other 3 cars as well - all three are 2 door hatchback/5-speed/rear-wheel-drive cars. One is an '78 Corolla, the other two are late 80's sport coupes. Pretty pedestrian compared to what other folks have posted on this thread. I needed to add a 4-door to the fleet so my folks don't have to be contortionists to get into the car.

The Genesis was my first choice though I looked at Lexus GS and Infinity G & M models. BMW & Mercedes are too expensive, and I don't have much faith in their "reliability" these days. I do lean more towards a driver's car rather than a comfy cruiser. The Infinity G was too small for what I wanted; the M didn't have the value of the Genesis - and is ugly too (my opinion). Lexus is too soft, too expensive. I've followed Hyundai's quality rise over the last decade (and have steered a few folks into Hyundais and they've been quite happy - and are still friends) so I've been waiting for the Genesis ever since rumors started in the auto mags. After seeing one at the auto show I knew it was killer: beats 'em on price, interior details, and exterior styling. Misses: needs better rear damper tuning, off-idle delay in engine response, and I wish I could get a true stick-shift/clutch... I like clutches.

Co-workers so far are univerally impressed with the Genesis - a bunch of engineers that like to nit-pick. I too get the disbelieving "that's a Hyundai?" response from many folks.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Have a look under the post "Replacing Stock rims and tires" where I provided several pictures of a Black KDM Genesis with different wheels that I photoshoped-in.

I ended-up with 19" TSW Estoril chrome wheels with P245/40R19 low-profile tires. What do you think of these shoes? I posted more pictures under http://www.genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/all_albums.php

Coming back to the subject of this thread... my previous car was a 2001 Chrysler 300M
