  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hankooks now a safety recall.

...a good thread, all.......thanks for all your experiences and research. Although I love my Hankooks with 18k on them here in Fla., I will try to choose my Michelin replacements carefully if I have a choice.

FYI. So I called my Hyundai Tech today about the tire recall. I just wanted to give them a chance to replace the tires if it could benefit them. They researched the recall and said no problem they could do the swap to any tire I wanted and I would only have to pay the difference on the tire price if I went with a more expensive tire. Svc Mgr suggested Mich. Pilot Sports as that is what he has on his RSpec. So for those that would rather have the dealer do the work it appears that is a option.

I never went to Hyundai. I went to Discount Tire and they offered to handle it. They called hankook and took care of it.

But would they still have to lower your top speed to 130? I am trying to avoid going to the dealer for this reason. We know that we have more up to date information then the dealer and service personnel so, if the tire swap is done at the dealer whats the chances that the computer wont be messed with?

By law they would need to IF you chose a tire that has a lesser speed rating than your originals. Past experience is tire dealers will not sell you a tire which has a lower speed rating for legality purposes. If you want the same Michelins Hyundai is supplying on the V6 then I seriously doubt even a tire shop will install these for the reasons I just mentioned. Your dealer on the other hand must roll back the top speed on the car no matter how you slice it or dice it IF you go with their proposed tires.

I don't know how they expect me to get to work on time if they lower my top speed to 130mph.

Texas roads were made to speed.... On my motorcycle I have gotten up to 160 racing a Porsche.....it's nice to know that I can reach above 130 if I choose to..... I guess 130 seems like "light speed" for you older and slower folks.

And it doesn't take much when traveling at 160 on a motorcycle to turn you into road splatter! Good luck actually reaching an older age!

Whaaat!
I bet the the motorcycle guy was freaked out someone actually passed him. Wouldn't it be a blast to take our v8 genny up to 180 on the autobahn

Not at all, if you have ever driven on the Autobaun you know you never pull into the passing lane without checking for a slight glimmer of light in the back. there is a longer version of this same video and they pass each other back and forth. The Audi is basically playing with the Motorcycle as he is maxed out at 300kph whereas the Audi is capable of much more, somewhere around 340.

As for the Genesis, would never take it over the max of 150mph as it really is not made for this. Different cars for different purposes. Just need an Autobahn ;)

Take a peek at these autobaun videos and you will get a hang of how you need to drive in normal fasion here or you are as good as roadkill in no time. https://www.google.ca/search?client...KqVsf-H-fK8gfPlqGIBw#q=autobahn+video&tbm=vid

Clearly I'm missing something regarding this recall. I just this minute went to the NHTSA website and put in my VIN to inquire about recalls for my vehicle. The site reported that there were no recalls for my vehicle which is a US 2015 Genesis Ultimate 5.0

https://vinrcl.safercar.gov/vin/

Does anyone know if this is this a full line recall or limited to a certain date/production range?

OOPS, after posting I found this:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners....make=HYUNDAI&searchCriteria.prod_ids=1982661

Still leaves me to wonder about the lack of a response on my specific VIN. Guess it's time to call the dealer - or wait until next month and see if I get a notice in my mailbox!

As it's a tire recall, it likely won't show by the car's VIN #. It is about the tire manufacturing date - See here for details:

Sounds like the tire manufacturer is doing the recall, not Hyundai. I assume that Hankook will have to get the owner name and address from Hyundai to send out notices.

Hankooks = Pep Boys Stuff.

And don't let the "shop boys" reprogram your computer for lower speeds. Asking for big trouble.

If you want better tires - just go out and buy 'em -- I've had good luck with Michelin Pilot AS/3's (W or Y speed rated). Special ordered from Costco. Trash the old ones and eat it.

Not exactly - read the Safety Recall Summary report and you'll find this:

"For replacement market tires, Hankook Tire America Corporation ("HTAC, sales subsidiary of Hankook) plans to pay for the expense of the tire replacement . For Original equipment tires sent to Hyundai Motor Company, Hyundai will conduct a separate recall of the tires."

As I understand it the 5.0 has different tires and are not part of the recall.

Nope, same tires, different sizes and definitely part of the recall. The difference is through Hyundai, the 5.0 gets Continental ProContactTX tires as replacements which are now the standard tires delivered on this car compared to Michelins for the 3.8. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...r=2015&autoModel=Genesis Sedan&autoModClar=V8

Not sure if this is just marketing hype but the Continentals do feature ContiSilent. http://www.continental-tires.com/car/technology/contisilent

Anyone have these on there 5.0? Care to share your comments on these?
