Hyundai Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

Anyone is entitled to spend their own money any way they want, so long as it does not hurt others. To me the quality of the Genesis is on a par with any of the other mid to upper 6 figure cars. I am not willing to pony up another $25K or more to get a German or Japanese luxury car with the same features and quality and a lesser warranty. I can think of much better things to spend that kind of money on...

I believe that reliability and resale will prove second generation Genny owners as brilliant! :) But time will tell...

I get Aston Martin all day!

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

I told one of my customers that it was an Aston and he believed me right up to the point that he sat behind the wheel. I then told him it was a Hyundai, and that he doesn't pay me enough to drive an Aston.

Another customer called it "a thinking man's Mercedes or BMW". That was cool.

On my first test drive, literally less than a km away from the dealership I had two other cars match speed while someone in the car was craning over to check out the window sticker. One of them give me a thumbs up at the red light.

I had it out for a four hour extended test and caught more than one person doing the walkaround in the parking lot as well. This car turns heads.

I am a Senior Manager at a bank and we had a manager offsite with about 20 of us total...All make decent money and drive nice cars. One of the jack@sses who didn't know crap about cars started announcing to everyone in the room that I drive a 'Kia', implying that my car is a piece of sh!t car based on where it's from. Clearly this perception is way outdated and false, but what I noticed is most commoners still associate this negative view towards Hyundai and Kia and laugh when they hear the words 'Hyundai luxury car.' Just a little frustrating that the common person doesn't realize how nice the car is and still associate the brand with economy sh!tboxes.

The average person knows jack about cars, much less the auto industry.

While I understand that people can be influenced by what others thinks - is it really that important what ignoramuses think? (Btw, these are the same ignoramuses that once scoffed at the idea of a luxury Japanese car).

I mean, really - most people think Bose is the best home audio brand and nowadays, most people think Beats makes the best headphones.

Most auto enthusiasts, otoh, would give the Genesis more respect than the Lexus ES - one being a proper RWD (w/ the option of a V8) sedan and the other being a tarted up Camry (now Avalon).

That guy seems like a typical jackarse so just ignore him (not like you can tell him he's an ignorant jackarse even if it is true).

Therein is the the obstacle Hyundai faces to increase market share in this segment.

The power of brand is stronger than value, cost and expense, even in challenging economic times. I don't see that changing anytime soon and one has to understand that buying a car that is almost twice as expensive as its more known models of the same manufacturer is more visible than the value comparison to cars twice as expense from brand leaders in the segment. As Hyundai excels in customer ratings and value lists, it will help the Genesis, but for many it will be viewed as an expensive Korean car.

While Hyundai may very well go the sub-brand route, Hyundai has a larger share of the mid-size luxury market than it does for the entire mainstream market.

When going to lunch today, I discreetly turned on the passenger's cooled seat. By the time we got there (~5 min drive), he asked "is the seat cooled." Now that it's hot out, I've been starting my car from the office before leaving in the afternoon. I have to use the computer, since I can't bring my phone into the building. Several people have been impressed when I explain what I'm doing.

I have had a couple of people ask "how much did it cost" when they find out it's a Hyundai. I think it's crass to discuss money like this, but I usually tell them if asked. Most of these people respond that they'd never pay $50k for a Hyundai. I respond that a comparably-equipped German would have cost significantly more.

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

Was heading into supermarket parking lot with my two day old 2015 Genny. As there was a little traffic in the lot, I had to stop on my way in. A dude walking through the lot stopped dead in his tracks and just stared at the car. He asked me what make of car it was and then quickly added is this a Genesis? He said it was a beautiful car and then said that it's also his girlfriend's name and lifted up his shirtsleeve to show me the name Genesis tattooed to his arm. As there are only 119 miles on my Genny to date, I am sure I will have more stories to relate down the road.

The best story for me (so far) relates to my 2012 Genesis. My wife and I were heading back to the car after a trip to the mall. My wife stopped behind a car waiting for me to pop the trunk. When I did nothing she asked "aren't you going to open the trunk". I informed her that I couldn't because she was standing behind a rather large BMW and that our car was two spots down.

Re: 2015 Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

We just got back from about a 2000 mile road trip and got a lot of complements along the way. Had people pass us on the highway then slow down and pass us again with their thumbs up. Had a couple in Myrtle Beach ask us if that was a Maybach car :D ... At a restaurant parking lot a guy asked us what kind of Chrysler is that? :D At a rest area on the way home while I was using the restroom, my wife seen a guy walk by the car and then made a U-turn then walked all around the car trying to figure out what it was. Did I say I love this car :D

I went to pick my Mom up at a MB dealer where she was dropping her car off for service, and when I pulled into the service line where she was, service as well as a couple of sales people came out to look around it. Was a strange feeling, but fun.

Hi, hailing from Down Under Australia!
Was on my grocery run when a couple of businessmen saw my car and commented thay are not sure what brand it is.
They said it looked like a BMW but the badge looked like aston martin...LOL
Told them it is a Hyundai and they nodded and said "wow, Koreans now making very nice cars"
=)

It's been about a month since I picked up the Genesis. I can't believe how many people have stopped to ask questions or pointed at it while I'm driving down the road. I've only seen 2 others in the Boston area, so I think the reaction is more: "what the heck kind of car is that?!?" Either way, it's been worth it!

Is anyone else having an issue with the Low Beam headlight setting? Mine is to low. Driving home from the dealer the 1st night we hit a huge piece of old tire in the road, cracking the bottom of the front bumper. At first I though it was me but since then I've noticed the low beams don't shine out far enough to see something in time to avoid it. If any other vehicle pulls up next to me I can see A Lot better.

Adjust the headlight height. I brought mine to my friend who owns a garage that does inspections. He drove the car in the bay and determined the low beams were approximately 3" too low. Once adjusted and raised, it is so much better a driving experience at night with the low beams.

Do a search here. Hyundai delivers the vehicles with the headlights aimed very low. We had a thread a year ago about re-aiming the headlight housings higher. The lights really are much brighter than you might think, once you get them out of the dirt!

Will the dealership do that as an adjustment?

Did some cross border shopping in Buffalo this weekend and went into Tops to grab a bunch of stuff that they don't sell here in Canada. Not even a minute into the store, two guys in their mid 30's come up asking if that's my Genesis outside. When I tell them it is, they are throwing compliments on the car, wrap work and wheels. Then they ask if its the V6 and when I say its the V8, they say it must be tough in the snow. When I mention Canada gets the AWD as standard, their jaws literally drop and all I hear is "holy shit".
My sisters just stood there wondering what the hell was going on. lol

Thanks for rubbing in AWD ya bastage. :D

I drove an associate on a~400 mile road trip a couple weeks ago and she made the comment a couple of times that she thought I must have been driving really slow on the interstate because the car was so smooth and quiet. We were doing around 80.
