In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hyundai Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

A few days after I purchased my Genesis I was waiting at a red light and caught a guy in a newer BMW 5 series do a major double take as he went past.

I've never driven a car that gets so much attention from other drivers on the road.

The car is just very good looking. It's a very classy design from all angles. Most cars have something I don't like about the exterior appearance. Not so with the Genesis. I'm very impressed...

So far just driving the Genesis around for 2 weeks, there have been plenty of stares, especially from people in BMW's. My neighbors thought it was a Bentley lol

The most interesting encounter I had though happened this past weekend when I parked my car on a corner spot away from other cars in a parking garage. I was walking toward the stairs when I noticed this guy just walking around the parking lot. I thought he was looking for his car, so I kept on walking. Before I reach the stairs I turn just to take a look at my car, and the guy is now standing my car with his phone out taking a picture.

Finally after 6 months someone asked me "what is that car"? It was the hot moms of the high school cheerleaders who were washing it at the time, so not all bad lol. I support the community!

Walked out of a convenience store with two six packs of beer in my hand. A guy at the gas pump is watching me as I walked up to the trunk. Sees the trunk open then shouts out, I thought you had to wave your foot under the trunk to make it work :D I told him it wasn't a Ford, it was a Hyundai Genesis and all I need to do is walk up behind the car and walla, the trunk will open. He said, nice function and even nicer car. Gotta love this car...

While I notice a lot of people checking out my 2015 Genie, I have not been getting as many people walking up to me to ask about the car as I did with my 2012 Genie. Having said that, yesterday, I was parked on the street outside a local grocery store. As I headed out to the car, a dude is standing behind my car looking it over. When he realized that the car was mine he asked me what kind of car it was. I told him to humor me and take a guess. Without hesitation he responded Bentley or Rolls. (I'm loving the moment). When I tell him its a Hyundai Genesis, he stands there speechless and then manage to ask/say "Hyundai"????, This is a Hyundai??? He was totally impressed.

Finally got my first and second observed stares, one after another, besides my retired neighbor that congratulated me on my new Chrysler:mad:.

Had my car parked in front of a local Italian restaurant that does not take reservations, so the family and I are all waiting outside for a table. I watched a man and his wife leave the restaurant, as soon as the gentlemen saw my car he made a beeline for it with wife in tow. I watched him scratch his head trying to figure out what brand the car was while doing a walk around. This was no average bystander, he next went right to the VIN on the front windshield, while the wife continued to checked out the rest of the car. They walked away soon after and glanced back a few times.

Second stare was indeed a double take.

While leaving the restaurant, as I drove by the entrance, a younger guy was walking out typing on his cell, he looked up at the car, then stopped dead in his tracks put his hand over his brow and watched the car drive off.

Yesterday evening I was at a friend's house, showing off the car to him and his wife. their neighbor comes outside (staunch BMW owners) and asks if it is a Bentley.

-No, it's a Genesis.

Oh - I never heard of that brand.

-That's the model, not the manufacturer.

Oh - who makes it?

-Hyundai.

*twisted/scowled face* Huh???

-Here.... sit in it.

(I have an Ultimate with tan guts)

Wow.... this is really nice.

-Uh huh.... yeah - it will be your next car.

*lady gives me a strange look*

I am SO loving the reaction I get out of people on this thing.

So far 1 Chrysler, 1 Bentley, 1 "Italian" and 5 "what is that?"'s.

Got another story to add...

Yesterday I was parked out in the open at an Office Max/Depot. I was sitting in the car with my shades on, reading the instructions on some screen cleaner I just bought and noticed a red minivan across the aisle. As I watch the van - the husband is driving and the wife is riding shotgun - not sure if there is anyone in the back...

But as they pull out of their spot they are both just straight GAWKING at the ride - which is parked with the nose facing them at an angle. Granted I had JUST finished hand detailing it - and it was a nice, sunny day - so she was lookin pretty for sure - in all her white innocence. :)

Anyhow - they are pointed to the right in their parking spot, but turning left to go the other way down the aisle. As they make the 170 degree turn from their spot & to the aisle - they are both locked on my car - kinda like how an Abrams Tank stays locked on target no matter what the lower half is doing.... yeah it was like that.

Well I was just about to raise my hand to get their attention & warn them...

When the guy drives smack into the back end of a car that had backed out a second earlier.

Maybe it's mean.... and perhaps even bad JuJu.... but I just tipped my head back down and had to snicker for a moment. :) I felt bad for the guy... but positively giddy that it was my ride that caused this situation. She was staying pretty quiet - because she was just as guilty as he was.

Really reminded me of this...

You can't see it - but the driver's head is hanging out the window and he is still gawking at the girl. I still have the original poster of this from back in the day. :)

Took my sons car in yesterday to get the AC fixed and the lady behind the counter asked what kind of car I was driving. I proudly said it was a Hyundai Genesis. She said it looks like a Jaguar and she commented on how beautiful that color was. Gotta love it when it turns the heads of others. Your recent stares you received srobak is a classic :D

my favorites so far are MB, BMW, and Aston. Love their faces when I say Hyundai.

I had someone recognize it as a Hyundai Genesis about a week ago. He was thinking about buying one, and we talked for a few minutes about the car and about local dealerships.

I also had someone riding with me recently who wouldn't stop feeling the leather. He actually touched most of the surfaces in the car to see how they felt. I've done the same thing at car shows and on test drives, so I understood what he was doing. He was impressed with how far Hyundai has come, which seems to be a common reaction.

Both generations are somewhat common in Jacksonville. But I was cruising the historic section of St. Augustine Saturday, dodging the tourists, when one guy in the crowd, I swear I thought he was going to fall off the curb, trying to figure out what I was driving. It still has it! :-)

In general, I find that the second generation doesn't get the attention that the first generation did. That being said, I had a guy speed up abruptly to pass me then slow down to look down from his truck over at my car (while driving next to me). It would have annoyed me that he raced to speed up just to match my speed if it wasn't clear to me what he was doing (I like to give people as much space as traffic conditions allow, and if it's not super-crowded, I won't drive directly next to anyone).

What is it with people with BMW's?
I've only had this car for a month but BMW drivers seem to transform into Mario Andretti when they see me, racing past me and through traffic. Trying to show off I suppose? Not impressed...

Yeah - well you know the saying about the difference between a porcupine and a bmw... :)

They are just jealous that our cars look much nicer than theirs :D

Hi all Several "what type of car is that questions in the first week."

Over the years I have owned the following brand new from dealer cars:

1978 Volvo sedan
1984 Mercedes 240
1989 Nissan Maxima
1992 Mercedes 300 turbo diesel
1995 Mercedes E350
2000 Mercedes E 350
2007 Nissan Maxima
2013 Genesis 3.8
2015 Genesis 3.8 w tech

Yesterday my wife of 37 years told me the new Genesis is the most comfortable car she has ever ridden in.

Must share story. I worked for Merrill Lynch on Wall Street for 27 years as money manager. Back around 1989 or so my fellow friend and Merrill employee, who happened to be the world wide auto analyst told me a crazy story. He told me that Toyota was doing the nuttiest thing. He said they formed a new luxury line called Lexus and they were selling luxury cars in the US at a sizable loss to what it actually cost to make and deliver the car. That is, for every new Lexus they sold in the US, they lost in the area of 10-15%. I asked why in the world would they do that? He said the Asian business mind does not think in the short time like Detroit. They seek market share and loyalty on a long term basis. Amazing and we all know how the Lexus brand turned out. He is still a auto analyst, but at different brokerage house. I asked him about Hyundai and the Genesis model. He plainly said Hyundai is doing the same thing with the 2015 Genesis. Not the early models, but the generation 2 version absolutely. Told me they spent approx a half billion dollars on the redesign and the sum of parts, labor and delivery significantly higher than the $38k base sticker. Signature and tech options also below cost per my old friend.

Very happy to be a new 2015 Genesis owner. Regards all.

Interesting and I have to agree with your wife! I've owned roughly 6 cars in my lifetime and the 2015 Genesis is the MOST comfortable.
