  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Genesis: post up your compliments/stares/double takes thread

Hmm.. well honestly the most comfortable car I've personally driven or ridden in were the 5th generation Lincoln Continentals from the 70s with 460ci engines, but of course those cars handled like the Queen Elizabeth II and had reliability comparable to a Yugo :-). The Genesis however is the most comfortable car I've experienced in the last 25 years however :-).

My best like happened this weekend.

My car is Manhattan brown but when it was registered, for some reason the papers show "Red". I got pulled over speeding and the cop said;

"This car is registered as a red Hyundai".

I said, "Yes, for some reason it showed red from registration".

He said, "No I mean it says its a Hyundai"

I say; "it IS a Hyundai"

He was, " whaaaaaaaaat...................???" and proceeded to check the VIN tag to confirm.

Did he give you a break on the ticket? :-D

I got pulled over in my 2010 and the cop had no idea what I was driving and wrote me up as having a BMW. I technically could have fought it, but I was lax and ended up just paying the ticket.

The fun comments keep on coming. Stopped at an Infiniti dealer just checking out cars for my wife and the sales guy complimented me on my Tesla.
Was getting gas and SRX Cadillac owner complemented me on car and asked what it was.
Could not believe Hyundai.. we chatted for a while since I had turned in SRX for my Genesis and he said he drives an S Mercedes.

Traveled for 7 hours in car with our German Technical Director who has Audi s7 550HP and he could not stop complimenting me about the car. If the sunroof rattle would only go away...

Showed my Coupe for the first time alongside my customized TBird at a big custom car show yesterday. The coupe got more comments and questions than did the 'Bird.
A number of Genesis owners mentioned how much they loved their sedans. Several of them hadn't even realized that Genesis makes a coupe.

Nice color coupe. I traded my 2014 3.8 Ultimate coupe for the 5.0 Ultimate.

Thank you!
The red car further down the line is a cherry Goat.

Yes... he let me off because laughter came into play~~

I drove to a Costco Gasoline station to fill up and as I pulled next to the pump, the attendant approached me. He asked me if I needed help while he was checking out my Manhattan Brown 3.8 (de-badged). I replied, "No, thank you." He continued to circle my car closely inspecting. He then returned and asked me what kind of car are you driving. I told him it's a 2015 Genesis sedan. He told me what a great looking car. What's funny is there was a brand new Lincoln MKZ behind me and BMW 5-Series right next to me (both with new dealer plates) and the attendant didn't pay either vehicle any attention.

That's real nice...

Finally, No outside mirrors! Well, only vestigial stumps. It's about time.

until your high tech side view cameras glitch (when and not if)... then you'll wish you still had mirrors...

Parked at a Subaru dealer looking at SUV for wife. Sales guy who appeared pretty knowledgeable commented on my Audi. When I told him it was a Hyundai he said he really didn't get a good look at it. Still don't see many. A black 2015 was shooting down I 94 in Milwaukee yesterday.

Weird that they used the old style (G1) wings on this car?

Not really, if you listen to the PA they are talking about 2011-2012. It's must be old and not 2016.

... until your mirror gets knocked off in a parking lot (when and not if), then you'll wish you had cameras... :-)

With that reasoning we'd still be using magnetos for spark. Electronics are very reliable now and will only get better. Meanwhile mirrors will always be wasting gas, adding noise, and looking ugly. With properly placed cameras you can eliminate blind spots and allow a computer to back you up. No need to look to the sides to see them, present them in a heads up display. There are many new possibilities when you are free of a physical slab of glass out in the wind.

Only if USDOT allows them in place of mirrors. Don't count on that any time soon.

Good points but electronics still can and do fail - so setting up too much of a reliance on them is a really BAD idea (imho). I love the BSD feature on my HUD and side mirrors, but still always check the mirror and turn my head to look before I change lanes. I have seen the BSD not pick a truck up that was in my blind spot - seems that if it sits there too long the car thinks you're in traffic kills the BSD warning - but I clearly saw it in my old school mirror.

I'm all for progress, but before they ditch the reliable low tech stuff, they better have figured out sufficient redundancy and active warnings to alert when the high tech stuff fails. I have already had electronic failures with my 2015 with 2 defective head units - including a back up camera glitch on one!
