  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai spinning off Genesis into Luxury brand

So apparently we see the new badge on their genesismotors.com website. Similar to the current one, but more defined and stronger looking. Less like a piece of grey plastic.

they're selling a brand new Genesis currently with signature package for $37k? maybe if i print this post out the dealer will knock $6,600 off MSRP for me.
That is the price that experienced adults can usually negotiate. If the salesman knows you go by "goochylittlepig," you will probably have to pay $2K over MSRP.

You are jumping to conclusions. That looks like the current badge, which is chrome plated plastic.

Yes, you can negotiate a new signature package down to $37k but it's not easy.

It's possible that the Genesis Motors site is displaying the new badge. It did cross my mind. But I personally feel that's not it. It's too similar. But possible.

I think that link is just a placeholder website until the first models come out.

It's NOT the current badge. It is restyled (as they said it would be) - proportions, surface texture, depth/embossing and Genesis center part are all different. I'd be willing to guess this is the new logo as well as I can't imagine they'd deviate too much - how much can you really restyle the wing logo? Time will tell, but I like it!

What a load of manure that website is. Still, it offers a nice view of the taillights next Equus, err G90.

I didn't see a G90 on the website. I only saw the Vision G Concept coupe

Pictures of the G90 (2017 Equus) will not be shown until it is close to being ready (unless someone from the press steals some shots). That is pretty much they way it is with all production cars.

Concept cars are different, since most of them have already appeared at auto shows.

I'm betting that the next car that debuts above the current Genesis sedan will have taillights that look similar to the ones shown in THE BRAND section of the Genesismotors.com site. They are somewhat Jag XJ style.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I'm sure he knows it's not the "same" logo but just very similar. The details are nice and the minor changes to the bottom logo look more upscale. I'd be fine with that being the new logo but I thought something more drastic would have made more sense. I'm sure many of us with the current logo probably don't want it to be very different. At any cost - I don't see why it wasn't said at the press release that "this is the new logo" instead of "we'll be using an updated logo". If this is it - why not just say "here it is"?

Probably because of all the levels of approval in the marketing and corporate hierarchy something like that has to go thru for "official" approval. In the meantime, somebody is saying, "just get that damn web page out there!".

True... Yeah, that website is just a placeholder for what's to come. It's a good idea to have it out there and it's not a BAD site - just not ready for primetime yet.

Could be - but they did have this up in the press release photo too. Time will tell, of course - this is just my speculation. I don't really have any vested interest as it has no impact on my car but, if this is the new logo, I think it is a nice (albeit subtle) improvement that has a slightly more premium aesthetic.

I agree. The new logo, while only slightly different, is a nice change. I just don't get why when talking about the new logo they weren't like, "here it is!". I mean - it was RIGHT there. Silly...

My buddy and I had this very talk about spinning off a lux brand probably 5-6 years ago; I bought my 2010 Genesis 4.6 and we had that talk then. And he had just finished his MBA and this topic came up in a marketing discussion. The general consensus then was that Hyundai still had not fully become known as a “quality” brand. Now we know that’s not the case, but the reputation hadn’t really matured yet to the point where a luxury brand would stand and work. Now it has, but Hyundai needs to be very careful in their execution of this.

If they plan on selling Genesis through Hyundai dealerships (for years Lincoln was synonymous with Ford but they finally physically spun off dedicated dealerships), they need to be VERY certain of having a special level of customer service, probably a spunoff space or lounge as well as sales stable. I get that they won’t want to invest immense capital into dedicated dealerships right away, and don’t have too much heartburn with that. That said, they had absolutely be committed to a truly premium product and that goes for the dealer experience and service.

I’ve been fortunate that on the very few times I’ve had to take mine in (mostly squawk items and routine minor parts recall things), my local dealership has given me, what I thought, was a little added service attention compared to say, your average Elantra owner. But the Genesis move is a big gamble for Hyundai.

I’m excited though. I wasn’t keen on the redesign of the Genesis (IMHO, too busy inside, too much switchgear and I prefer the prior gen body style and lines), but this is a move that would give me pause to re-up with the brand if it’s a quality vehicle with good value.

I’m worried about what that MSRP is going to be on the Genesis G80 though….I might have sticker shock. We’ll find out.

I don't recall Lincoln spinning off many stand-alone dealerships lately. Mostly they have consolidated into Ford dealership locations.

I think he was talking about many years ago.

There is not always consistency in this regard, as it depends on the market. In some rural areas you can probably find a few Chevy/Buick/GMC all under one dealership location.

spoke to a Genesis rep at the NY Int'l Auto show this weekend he said the brand will separate from Hyundai and go on it's own within next couple of months . The prices will go up slightly and warranty will be a little better than current.
Supposedly will not take a Hyundai Genesis for service at their dealership because it wasn't purchased there . WTF
Not sure how true this is but not good
