  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm at a loss...

You do realize that the dealership and Genesis already know that he broke it right?
You can’t plead ignorance here!
What ignorance? If properly repaired they have no evidence of anything. Sure, they will not cover what he is doing now and Todd is not asking them to, but it does not relieve Genesis of future obligations. No different that getting an oil change at Jiffy Lube. Changes nothing.

Oh Ed, much be nice to be a know it all!

The Magnuson-Moss Act is one thing but reality is another. A dealership can stand behind their work. But how can an individual who is not a certified technician?
Anyway, I would ask the Admin to delete this whole thread once you’re up and running Todd!
Leave no traces!

No way, man.

They can sift through this and see my work - I have nothing to hide. If they look, they'll see I have brand new stuff, everything installed correctly and torqued down to spec, if anything it would help my case.

Plus, I want to help others if they run into a similar situation as me. Others have removed the turbos without removing the engine, but no one has detailed the process like i have.

Are you 100% sure the turbo you ordered is a new OEM turbo and not a knockoff? Seems odd that Genesis is out of stock, but an online dealer has one. Just curious.

Playing devils advocate, they could argue that the work wasnt performed by a SAE certified or Genesis certified mechanic.

My crappy dealership wont touch my car unless their one Gen certified mechanic in there which means that my appointments were always weeks out or cancelled...

All that said, I say fk it! I do whatever work I can myself because I know I do a better job. Bravo to you and keep up the good work!

You make a valid point.

Hopefully it doesn't come to that, though.

I still want to keep the info up so others can benefit from my mistake.

My point exactly. I would go to another dealership for warranty work just in case the home dealership throws the issue back at you since they know the history!

This is the place. All Hyundai parts are genuine and warranted by Hyundai. I've bought parts from them before for my 2014 and 2016 Hyundai Genesis

When I called the dealer before ordering online, they said that they could get the replacement turbo in a couple of days. It seems the warehouses have them in stock now.

I told the parts guy that I found it online for cheaper - he didn't seem surprised.

Of course I'll post pics when I receive it.

Are turbos covered by the 10 years/100k Powertrain warranty?

The turbo is covered under the 10 years/100K powertrain warranty.

My experience with dealerships would lead me to say that if Todd drove up to them with a 454 in the engine bay with a blower cutout in the hood, they MIGHT suspect something isn't quite right. Other than that, I'd be very surprised if most front line dealership mechanics would know anything was done. If they did they probably wouldn't care enough to say anything to anyone.

I would think there is a Hyundai database all this has gone into and any dealer will see that work was attempted at dealer#1 etc. Hence the reason we can log into our own "MyHyundai sites and see all our work tickets.

I have no doubt Todd will do a better job than any of the Genesis techs. His knowledge and skills are incredible. But I would probably still try to offload the car around before or around the 5 year mark just in case the 10 year powertrain warranty will not be honoured!

Yup, you can nearly always find parts cheaper online than at the dealer.

Take a look at what I just got in the mail...

...look at those beautifully machine threads! Haha.

It all came in a large box, and within that box the turbo has its own box. Plenty of padding. Very well protected and professionally done - thank you Genesis!

Detailed reinstallation steps incoming.

Aww you bought a pet snail! How cute!
