3.3T Intake comparisons

Installed my DIY intakes last night. I used the Spectre heat shields and used some DEI Reflect-a-gold on the back side of them to help reflect heat. Drive to work this morning outside temp was 70F. Intake temps climbed up to 100F doing about 55mph (sometimes dropping down to 98F). On a slower road before parking, temps climbed to 113F. I'd argue IAT temps seem about the same as the K&N panel filters. You can hear the turbo's spool now at lower speeds, and you can hear the OEM BOV a bit more now (which sounds kinda like a bullfrog). I did some trimming of the heat shields to reduce concerns of the sharper bottoms edges cutting into anything, then added car door edge guards. I'm not a huge fan of how the heat shield pushes against the hoses on the drivers side, but there isn't much a person can do about it.

I did some looking up by the grill area, etc. I honestly can't figure out where the outside air is feeding the OEM airbox? I never understand why the OEM's don't give the airbox a direct path to outside air.

I'd be curious to what your seeing for IAT temps Pickle with your setup....

Cruising: 85-95F
WOT: 86F
Parked: 105F
So, the snorkels are working because I'm definately getting more cool outside air than engine bay air. Simply, the faster I go, the cooler the IAT is. Sitting still, with no airflow spikes the temps.

Generally, my IAT is running around +20F above ambient while driving, speed dependent with the DIY intakes.

You have OEM snorkels with OEM bottom sections correct? In general I feel I’m seeing about 20F above ambient temps at speed as well. The faster I go, the closer to ambient temps I see.

This is maybe a dumb question, but how are you measuring this?

It looks like your setup may actually be running a bit cooler. I may try out this configuration at some point, more so because I am curious whether I can fit the Spectre heat shields over the filters and under the strut bars this way.

Yes, OEM snorkels with OEM bottom sections. All I did was remove the airbox lid and filter. It'll take <10min to revert this change, if needed.

Unlikely you will be able to use the Spectre heat shields with this setup. The Spectre filters are sandwiched between the bottom of the airbox and the strut brace. They are held snugly without additional bracing, tape, etc. There would be be no room for the additional heat shields, unless you chopped them up.
 
Has anyone ever tried the AEM Kia Stringer intake on the G70? I like the heat shield, wonder if the heat shield will work with the DIY intakes....?
 
So, I installed the Build-Your-Own Intakes today. I have to say, I'm super impressed. I did mine slightly differently, but others on the Stinger forum have done the same with great results. After this install, I went for a quick drive and saw no error codes or other abnormal behavior. You could definitely hear the air induction better and for the first time, I actually heard the blow off valves in operation. That was kinda underwhelming. The stock BOV sounds like a cat farting. But at least I can hear it now.

For this install, you leave in the bottom half of the stock Intake box. This provides stability for the filters and act as heat shields from the engine. The stock snorkels are intact, providing some cool air from the outside, but my biggest concern with this setup is how much hot engine bay air I will pull in. You can't see it in the pics, but there is a large amount of space between the filters and the bottom of the lower airbox. The snorkels open into this area, so the underside of the filters will get unrestricted access to the cool outside air. I'm hoping this will help offset the top of the filters getting hot engine bay air.

It looks and sounds great, and was super easy to install. Simply:
1) Remove the brace bars
2) Pop the top half of the airbox off using the 4 clips.
3) Unscrew the clamp holding the hose to that top half of the airbox.
4) Remove the top half of the airbox and the stock filter.
5) Position and insert the new filter 90 elbow into the stock airbox hose and re-tighten the clamp.
6) No extra bracing, tape or anything else needed. It all fits snugly, doesn't wiggle, and is held in place by the cross brace bar.
7) Enjoy.

The filters and elbows cost about $95cad.

As an interesting side note, this install looks very much like the BMS install seen on page 1 of this thread.

I figured I'd try the install like Pickle did and watch my IAT's to see if there was any difference in my original setup. It was 71-73F on my way to work this morning. Seemed like my IAT temps were about +20F above outside ambient air temp for a bit, then I'd say stayed more steady around +30F above ambient air temp (likely after engine and internals warmed up). This seems pretty similar to my original setup (post #63), but maybe slightly higher IATs. I do believe these intakes really should have some shielding around them to help hold the cooler air more compartmentalized around the intakes. The OEM snorkels/intakes are definitely a limiting factor. I pulled the one plastic top panel (behind Genesis logo on front bumper) off last night to get a better look, the OEM design does not do a good job of pulling in outside air very well at all IMO - I wish there was a simple/easy means to allow more outside air get to the OEM snorkel. I'd like to see IAT's not go beyond +20F from the outside air temp.

Not sure what the "cross bars" are in the OEM snorkel, seems they would restrict airflow a little?

I would also like to know. Love the sound so would like to know if that sound is produced by just a muffler delete alone or if other things are in play to achieve that symphony.

My bigger concern was that the elbow on the driver side is pushing against a line near the front of the car in this configuration. I don't think I'll run this configuration long term because of this fitment issue.

I covered that with wire loom and some door edge protector...
 
i have the AEM intakes for the stinger. love AEM products and fits goods
Which AEM part number did you order for your G70 3.3? I contacted AEM about CAI's for the G70 and they said they don't have one and don't have any plans to mfg any for the G70. They offered no suggestions either. So if your AEM is working well, I'd like to buy the same one for my G70 specifically because they are one of the only mfg's advertising HP gains with just the CAI alone without adding anything else to the car.
