Um. I think it was written BECAUSE he/she read the flow of this thread and found it amazing!

... If only I had a Lexicon to see if these Memorex DVD+R's are compatible...
Thanks for this post, elshagon. The Roy Orbison one was released on Dvd-Audio in addition to the blu-ray. ...
Thanks for this post, elshagon.
In spite of what you may think, there are some that understand the difference in audio quality and appreciate the information you are posting.
I have two questions on the Roy Orbison Black/White DVD-A/BRD you speak of:
Do you know if the Blu-Ray contains the same audio (quality wise) as the DVD-A?
For this particular recording, were all the channels (Lf-Rf-C-LFE-Ls-Rs) recorded to either/both of those formats?
One other question after reading your post about how you compile your own.
I've always used DVDExplorer and DVD Audio Solo to extract and re-compile my DVD-A discs.
When doing so, it coverts the MLP files to FLAC, then PCM when they go back on the disc.
The Genesis Lexicon plays the PCM DVD-A discs just fine.
Is there any other differences between MLP and PCM?
I always thought MLP is compressed PCM, and the only difference is size.
What dolt wrote that? It's obvious that he/she didn't read the flow of this thread.
elshagon wrote that on the surround sound board. Why do you call him a dolt?
PMCErnie, the one thing that is consistent, thread to thread, is that you act like a jerk. I have never seen someone make such an impact so quickly. Enjoy your new car.Obviously it is you who is stoking the fires here. Everyone can see that. You posted a quote without attribution to the author's name. My points have been clear. I luvs the Bluetooth streaming. Get over it.
Thanks for the answer. The bluray of this disc uses DTS HD Master Audio 5.1 which is what is used by DTS for lossless audio on bluray discs. Dolby uses TrueHD for its lossless on bluray which is pretty much the same as mlp that is found on DVD-Audio discs. I have the bluray and the DVD-Audio of the Black & White Night, but haven't directly compared them to see if they sound identical. My guess is they sound very close to the same, as I'm sure the source is the same for both. All the channels are used and has a good mix for a concert.
elshagon,
Are you using DVD+ or DVD- discs?
I'm not having very much success with Verbatim DVD+ discs and was thinking of getting some DVD- to try.
I can play the same track three times in the Lexicon and it will pause in different places each time.
The same disc will play fine on my home DVD-A player and never misses a beat.
Update:
For anyone interested in burning their own DVD-A discs .
At least in my Lexicon System, DVD-R discs work fine, DVD+ do not.
I tried Verbatim and Memorex in both Single and Dual Layer
MLP is used to reduce the file size - and bit rate - to allow 24/96 in 5.1 to be spec compliant. It's my understanding that DVD Audio Solo doesn't do .mlp, therefore the discs are output at 24/48 to make sure the bitrate doesn't exceed the limit for dvd. If you dropped in songs that are 24/96 then they would come out as 24/48. This would be the advantage of a program such as Discwelder Chrome. With Chrome you can use .mlp files and therefore not have to downconvert your files which are 24/96.
What are you using to convert Blu-Ray concerts to DVD-A. I have several concerts I would love to be able to have in DVD-A, such at Chris Botti (Live in Boston), Roy Orbison and Friend (A black and White Concert)...
You might find this links useful for the conversion. BTW, the Chris Botti Live in Boston bluray audio is 16 bit padded to 24 bit.
