If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Magnaflow Cat-back Exhaust for the R-Spec

Thanks StangKiller for taking the plunge first. Look forward to your impressions.

Hey Stang killer,
I too have had/have many hotrods, bikes, etc with loud exhaust. 600HP blown SBC hotrod truck, 100hp Harley, etc. But I had never heard a drone like the one I did in my G8 with the magna flow. And I've had their systems on other cars with no isues. It was really that bad that I went back to stock.

I can't say for sure if it was because it was a V6 or that it was because of the VVT, which the Genney has, so that is why my concern. Let us know how it turns out.

Ok guys - here are some pictures of the install. It went pretty smooth - took my guy about 1.5 hours. The only issue we had was how to get the tips to line up (not really the tips, but the back part of the exhaust that now sits inside of the factory tips).

The exhaust itself surprised me - it's not very loud at all. It would seem that Magnaflow tuned this exhaust a bit differently that previous units I had - albeit those were for muscle cars, not semi-luxury Hyundai cruisers. I think most people would be satisfied with the loudness as it's not overbearing - I prefer a little more noise and will be removing the back set of cats next weekend.

Drone - there is some drone between 1500-2000 RPMs. I think Magnaflow did a pretty decent job minimizing it - doesn't bother me a bit.

Butt Dyno - this also surprised me. I didn't expect to feel the car be any faster as 10-20HP shouldn't register. But it did. The car seems to have a bit more low end power now as well. It was definitely a noticeable improvement.

Overall very satisfied and would recommend the 15059 to my fellow R Spec owners. I'll try and get a video up soon - all I have is a camera on my iPhone so quality won't be that good.

is there any concern of metal on metal contact from the ehaust hitting the bumper cutout chrome pieces ?

If you've looked at the stock setup the tips sit back from the metal finisher in the bumper.
Magnaflow system looks like it sits back pretty far too.

No not really. The guys at the shop addressed this when they were tightening everything up. They said it was close but would not be a problem.

You mentioned a drone at 1500 - 2000 RPM. How bad is it really? I mean it may not bother you but apperently you can hear it. Is it loud enough or anoying enough that you can't hold a normal conversation?

Glad you like it. Would like to hear a sound clip of out side and inside when you can. And also of the drone if possible.

Also please give us a follow up after you've driven it for several months. The sound may change once they system is "broken in".

Also is this a cat back system or full exhaust system with new high flow cats?

Hey Crusty - the drone isn't bad, IMO. They did a good job putting the kit together, I think the resonators in back helped out quite a bit. Keep in mind though, drone is subjective and everyone hears it a bit differently. I would definitely not say that it's so loud that you can't hold a conversation in the car.

I will try and get a video up soon. Oh I can already start to tell that the sound is starting to break in -keeps sounding better and better.

This was the cat-back system - model 15059. Putting in MSA cat deletes on Saturday as well, so that should make it sound a bit louder.

Does anyone know the grade of SS magnaflow is using?

For their full cat-back kits I believe it's 409. The XL series and pro series may be a lesser variety.

Found this info on the Q&A section of MagnaFlow's site:

436 grade in the tubing, 304 for the mufflers and tips (in the systems)

Cool - I think my info was a bit dated...

Noticed something on your pics..A odd trivia item that might have some merit...

The replacement exhaust also has the mismatched tips to the cutouts on the bumper. The OEM tips are not even/level with the cutout. So the flow of the exhaust is broken up. It swirls, it is blocked and has to shoot around the cutout. Also, the flow adheres to the bottom of the cutout. So, that black residue we find building up is a result of these problems. The ultra small black soot we find are not blown away completely. Instead it is slow enough after all the chaos between the bumper cutout and the exhausts, it sticks.

Anyway, this is my supposition I admit. But something is wrong by having the outlet not even with the cut out.

So, I noticed your new system also has this issue from the angle of the pictures. You are lucky you have a black car. I wonder if you are able to line the tips up nice and even?

just purchased the magnaflow exhaust system 15059 also, from hottexhaust too, but for the cheapest price yet on this forum , $866.73 shipped for free.Hoping to see a video from someone on this post soon enough on their rpsec sedan, let me know, Frank

So the pics were taken as we were tightening everything up and still making adjustments. They are not perfect but now they sit in the inside corner of the stock tips and this is by design. The exhaust doesn't swirl lol... The way the system sits after you install it makes it tough to get the tips lined up perfectly but it's not really noticeable once the car is off the lift. Check out the second batch of pics for what it looks like after tightening it up.

Good price - they still show $1215 on the website. I think you will enjoy the purchase - and at 860 it's a great value too!
