If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Magnaflow Cat-back Exhaust for the R-Spec

OP - any reason for using the clamps instead of TIG welding?

Yes, the way the pipes were made they don't need to be welded. Hard to explain but they have rivets that make them fit into each other and they overlap. You could weld them but popping on the clamp is a lot easier and also would allow for the system to be removed easier at a later date.

It's nice they do that for you. Allows the DIYer to easily install this system.

I just popped for the Magnaflow at HotExhausts. The discount price is easy to obtain - just ask for a coupon and it can be yours for $866.73, which is a very good price.
I am concerned about drone issues. I had the Magnaflow on my '11 Genesis and it droned horribly. Fixed the drone with removing the rear Magnaflow mufflers and installing Dynomax VTs in their place. Sold the car to an old friend with the option of reinstalling the stock system. He loves the modified Magnaflow.
I am leaving on a long trip in May, but will wait to install the Magnaflow when I get back. Don't want to have to hear drone on this trip. If it drones, and I will report so to this forum, I will install Dynomax VTs, which I am confident will reduce done to an acceptable level.
I suppose it is physically possible to install Dynomax VTs to the OEM system, but it isn't easy. It takes some creativity, bending and welding. Contrasted the basic shape of the Magnaflow rear mufflers looks in the pictures to be similar to Dynomax VT, so I think it might be a comparatively simple job to adapt a Dynomax to a Magnaflow system. Plus with Magnaflow you get a larger exhaust pipe diameter - from 2.25" to 2.50".
Friends tell me, "speed costs $$$. How fast do you want to go?" I don't think one can economically "justify" this expenditure. There will be some fuel savings, but not enough to balance the cost. All this doesn't matter to me as I see this car as a hobby vehicle, which has some potential for more power and refinement. BTW, my baseline dyno with just a K&N drop in was 352 RWHP. This was not a Dynojet dyno. Don't remember the brand name, but it attaches to the rear hubs. For those in the Minneapolis area this dyno is at TPIS in Chaska.

I just pulled the trigger also, I emailed around to get the best price. This resulted in crazyboyauto.com $850 shipped to your door by Fedex in 4 days. I will let you all know what I think as well. But I'm a Mustang guy so I like a little sound out of my exhaust.. Coupon code IKED the owner of the site is keeping it active for you guys

Are the exhausts compatible the V6? Going by the shop manual they look the same, but that doesn't mean they are in practice. I'm particularly interested in 15059 with the resonators.

Thanks man. Ordered mine from there today too.
Keep in mind the deal (according to them) was for 6 systems. So looks like there are only 4 left. Hurry up before the deal is done.

Muffler tips are definitely different. Not sure what else is though.

15059 has the same tips as all of the 2012+ models. 16497 has the dual tips that will only fit 2009-2011. I think the tips are model year dependent, not engine dependent, correct?

I think Hyundai uses the same cat-back exhaust system for the V6 and V8. My recall is that they both have 2.25" tubing. OEM mufflers look identical.

There are substantial/material differences in Magnaflow exhausts from the 2009-11 version to the 2012-13 version as can be seen from the drawings posed above. The "new" Magnaflow has long resonators where the "old" had none. The construction of the rear mufflers looks different also. The "old" was a simple straight-through design. The "new" rear muffler looks like it might have some reverse flow features, which alone will help drone.

Tell me about it. I just bought new wheels so I'm going to have to wait a bit.

Couldn't resist - just pulled the trigger on 15059 for my 2012 V6. I'll be the forum guinea pig for the 3.8 guys. :D

Nice. Good luck. Hope it's a perfect fit.

By the way, a simple Google search for a coupon code for Hottexhaust.com will get you this system for $866.

$850 from crazyboyauto.com. Just chat with them and tell them you're a member on this site.

So the MSA cat deletes just showed up today. I will try and get videos up on Saturday - first one (by request) will be the Magnaflow only. Second one will be Magnaflow + MSA cat deletes. Hoping to get a bit more rumble as this system is incredibly quiet for a Magnaflow exhaust.

thanks for the two videos your going to make , my magnaflow 15059 will be here on monday, so really intrested to see how it sounds, i also made my own aluminum intake with a k/n filter cone that completely eliminates the huge stock plastic in the front engine bay, sounds crazy awesome at high rpm hopefully that can make a little more rumble. But yeah, really intrested in the vids, pm, when they are available, thanks

Looking forward to the vids! Hard to keep track of the threads, but are you the one that said they wouldn't be doing a dyno?

Would love to see how you fabbed up the intake. Can you post a pic of what you have done and how you made the tube? Assuming you left the MAF mounted as-is and replaced the air-box.

I am going to plug in my scanner when I get time to see what the intake air temps are stock for my 4.6L in case I ever decide to do something. I would like to have something like this, but I don't have the equipment or fabbing skills to do it myself:

That's great. I have the MSA cat deletes too so I'm interested in how they sound with the Magnaflow. I know I have the v6 but it still should give me a decent idea.
