If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rear-View Camera Quality

Just leased a 2016 Genesis Ultimate AWD. Before I did, I had three negatives which were minor and totally offset by all of the car's positives. They were:

1. Hyundai logo on rear. Had dealer install Genesis wings.
2. No smart card option. USB only. Minor gripe.
3. Backup camera. I've seen better. My son-in-law's Pathfinder is fantastic. Very clear rear, sides and top views.

Seems to me a better camera could have been used.

Anyone ever take time to clean the lens ??????

2. No smart card option. USB only. Minor gripe.

Eh? You wanting to process credit cards from your center console???

Anyone ever take time to clean the lens ??????

Every week when I wash it. That's not the issue. It is a low rez camera - but it is plenty high enough to see the detail that is necessary when it is in use for backing up. In all honesty - this is a non-issue and I am not really sure why it was brought up in the first place.

It is used 0.0001% of the time the car is in motion and it is only supposed to be used as a supplement to how you are SUPPOSED to be backing up - and have been for decades.

Alright, so I'm not crazy. It's just very unfortunate that such a simple device on such a high-end vehicle seems so antiquated. And why would it be less clear than the first generation?

I also recently drove a new Mercedes C300, and the camera was stunning. Absolutely crystal clear, high resolution beauty. It was like an original iPhone vs a DSLR... that dramatic a difference.

It's not a deal breaker for me but the quality of the rear view camera on high-end cars is pretty amazing. It's just a "touch" but I think "Genesis Motors" branded cars should cover this base...

the back up cam resolution is definitely a lower quality. I think they saved some money there on the cost cuts.

That's what I think...

I think mine is stunning. I suggest you get the dealer to take a look. There is something wrong with yours.

There's nothing wrong with my reference point on the 2G Genesis. I drove two separate vehicles for test drives. The camera was the same on both: Very poor.

Some may say I'm nitpicking, but I really don't feel that way at all. When it boils down; The Genesis is not an inexpensive vehicle by any stretch of the imagination. It is a definite cost savings when compared to it's German rivals, but it isn't cheap. There's no reason to have such a poor backup camera.

I'm not a hater, either. I like my 1st generation Genesis quite a bit... and its backup camera is significantly better than the 2nd generation. It just doesn't make any sense. Why would a 2009 Genesis have a higher-res, faster frame rate camera system than a 2016?

One shouldn't have to feel as though they are giving up anything, or moving backwards in any way whatsoever, when buying the brand new version of the same product, vehicle, etc. It should be an improvement in all aspects, or at least maintain the strong points completely.

I miss the camera of my G1 too. It had way more resolution than on the G2. I think this is the only thing I find better in the first generation compared to the second.

I love this car, but the reverse camera sucks. I had a Honda Accord and the quality waaaaay better than this. is there a way to adjust it?

Anyone thought of having your eyes checked :=)
I have no problem with the clarity of the back up camera

I think you are the one that needs your eyes checked lol...if you think that is an hd quality camera then you are mistaken.

While this isn't the worst problem you could have it just seems they could have put a little more thought into it...I highly doubt it would have costed Hyundai more than a $50 extra to put in a better resolution camera in the car.

Like someone said above what is the point in having a hd screen if the feed is going to be 200x100...it's like buying a 4k tv right now when your only feed is a vhs player.

Never said it was HD quality.... I just said it was clear and I think it's just fine.

Mine works just fine as well and my eyes SUCK! :D

Its not that it doesnt work right...its the fact they used a $20 camera instead of a $40 camera...that is the problem I have

They could have literally used a camera that costed them a couple dollars to get a better resolution camera...wouldnt hurt to have a higher resolution camera with the hd screen.

again you wouldnt buy a 4k tv to use with your vhs player right? such a waste.

i have the 15, 5 ultimate, my camera is excellent, it's better than the one i have on my 2014 caddy srx

Wow, that's one of the most flawed comparisons I have ever seen. The purpose of a TV screen/Blu-Ray (or VHS or whatever) player combination is to watch movies/shows for several hours at a time. The purpose of the rear-view camera is to give you an aid in reversing for a few seconds.

Unless you do reverse racing (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoh8i0jfpTo) the camera is used maybe 1-2 minutes a day.

Is there anything you can't actually see on the camera? Did you run over a child because the resolution of the camera was too low? Hit a pole in reverse while backing up? Ran over your spouses foot while they were standing behind the car?

The camera in my vehicle serves its purpose very well. If I had to watch a movie, I'd worry about the camera quality, but for the purpose it was added to the car, it works well enough.

This is a non issue and a first world problem if there ever was one.

Of course is not a first world problem but a Huyndai problem. Anyone thinking the rearview camera in 2G is stunning or excellent is because they never had a 1G and there is where some Genesis owners like me are complaining. I don't know and I don't want to speculate why Hyundai decided to put such a bad camera on 2G but for sure they went go backwards and I don't think that this is such an important decision factor when buying a vehicle but a a factor at the end.
Fact is that 1G rearview camera is WAY BETTER than 2G.

Fact is I can't reconcile what I'm seeing in my backup camera with the description "bad" - and yes, I have driven more than a few 1G Genesis sedans.

The camera is just fine. It does what it needs to do quite well for the short time it is engaged.

The backup camera in my wife's Fit - now THAT is bad. Very distorted image and one that makes objects look MUCH further away than they actually are - precisely the last thing you want in a backup camera.

My camera in the 2G is not quite up to the level of my '13 Azera (likely similar to the 1G Genesis), but it's way more than adequate. It's also dramatically better than any Chrysler product I've owned, and any Toyota product I've driven.

my goodness...i dont think you guys get it...no one is saying that the backup camera is not adequate...but I didnt really buy this car because it was just adequate.

the camera works as it should, but for literally couple $10 bills they could have had a much higher resolution camera...hell they might have been able to upgrade for free lol because ive bought webcam a couple years ago for under $20 that looked much better than this on a screen that was 3 times larger.

it seriously would have cost hyundai nothing to upgrade a camera, but maybe they just had like 200k of these crap cameras laying around and instead of throwing them away they put them on this car instead lol.

but again i am not arguing the fact that this camera does exactly what it is suppose to do...just saying that it could have been a little better with resolution and the slight lag.
