  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

Not knocking the move to offer replacement tires for those unhappy with their Hankooks - but they decide to replace the Ultra Performance AS tires on their "flagship sports sedan" (they really wrote that?) with Grand Touring AS tires - ummm, sure - that makes sense....

When something doesn't make sense in the automotive world, usually the lawyers are at work.

I think there was a lot more than "unhappiness" involved.

Exactly - so, with all of the development testing and tuning/collaboration with Lotus that they did, how did they miss a "problem" so significant that has caused them to offer to replace everyone's tires? See the link below at 7:34 minutes in - the Lotus engineer indicates that, while a little firmer than he might have liked, the tires chosen were the best of what they tested for what they were trying to accomplish with this car...

Had the new tires installed today. While I find them to be good in my opinion not as good as the Hankooks . Checked and verified the tire pressures to make sure. The Hankooks were quieter and had a better ride. Drove the same route back on the same roads. It’s no small wonder that Lotus chose those particular tires to compliment the Genesis ride. I had my reservations about this but ….it is what it is.

Getting my new tires on June 5th. I only have 8000 miles on the old ones.

Thanks for the update - wasn't planning on swapping tires, but that assesment seals it for me. No sense downgrading - maybe a good time to buy an extra set of Hankooks on closeout...

I have my 3.8 HTRAK Ultimate since August of '14 got my letter last week and was a little uneasy about making the switch along with the reprogramming of the computer for the lower speed rating. (Not that I'd ever hit with of the two top speeds, just a little concerned about mucking about in the electronics).

Since we appear to have 3 years to make that switch - and I drive less than 10K a year, I'm going to wait until I get close to needing new tires - maybe sell or trade mine with a brand new set of Michelins when the time comes!

My letter said nothing about 3 years, so I'd ask for something in writing from Hyundai if that is your plan. Just because folks here say they were told 3 years won't help if you don't have official confirmation. Honestly, Hyundai allowing folks to take up to 3 years to replace "problem" tires doesn't really make any sense to me, so I question the validity without seeing it spelled out as such on Hyundai letterhead...

Got my letter in the mail today. It stated "reprogrammed from 150mph to 130mph" because the new tires are not made for speeds over 130. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I dont see me going near 130 but It's good to know that I can if I ever need to out run a CLA.....lol

Question? What are the replacements - Michelins? And the specs/types?

Thanks

I received (2) letters yesterday. Both had my VIN # at the top right hand corner. The first letter stated that I would receive Continental ProContact tires. The second letter stated that I would receive Michelin Primacy MXM4 tires but would require the top speed adjustment.

Neither letter states anything regarding the 3 year expiration date noted in this thread. Where are you guys/gals getting this time limitation at?

Agreed

Plus the servicing dealer would have to confirm that for me to place any validity in that claim even if there was an email stating such.

No tire replacement letter for me yet.

I was curious what Hyundai would say if I asked them about the tire replacement for my 2015 V6 Genesis. I sent them an email from the "contact us" link on My Hyundai.

The question I asked and the answer are shown below.

Looks like there is an advantage for each concerned person to contact Hyundai and get an official case number assigned for your tire replacement. This will give you written documentation for a future replacement. :)

J.K.

Sounds like they're telling you - "Don't call us - We'll call you"

good that solves it for me, new tires in jan 2018

Does anyone know the email address where I can email Hyundai about the recall. I only use my mobile and the site just redirects me to the mobile main webpage. Can't see the "contact us" information.
I don't know why but the webpage is blacked out. Can't click on it and when I use the "try it" option it doesn't show me the contact info...... Weird

I would verify this with your servicing dealer. Won’t hurt.

i already have verified the date with hyundai NA and I have my letter as well, every owner has 3 yrs to get this done if need be..Dealers in my area tend to know NOTHING, I prefer to get my info from the regional Hyundai office in New Jersey..Actually very easy to get a regional service manager on the phone which is what I did
