  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

The are replacing the Hankooks with V Rated Michelins. V Rating is up to 149 MPH. 99.9% of all Genesis owners are NOT going to go over 100. Most cars sold with W rated tires will not even go that fast due to engine limitations let alone the lack of balls the driver has.

On another note, the flat spotting is due to the a compound the tire is designed with, Nylon, which is the reason for the flat spotting, if I am not mistaken. In the end, it was a poor choice on Hankooks part to make the tire with nylon in the mix, but the tire is still a great tire with regards to handling and noise (or lack there of).

I just had the replacement done on my 3.8 HTrac and wow, the Michelins feel so much better. The road feel and braking feels much smoother.

I did notice on the 3.8 HTrac loaner car I had for one day that the Hankook tires felt better than mine, but then I noticed they had them inflated to almost 40 PSI cold.

The Michelins were set to 35 PSI cold and feel very good.

Dealers and Oil Change places are all the same. They see MAX PSI on the tire and fill it up until it is close to bursting. They never check the required PSI on the door panel on the driver side.

There is nothing like Michelin Tires. I starting putting Michelin on all my cars about 20 years ago. I learned this after I made the mistake placing Firestone touring tires on a Lincoln I owned. On the way out of Firestone it road like a tank. I took it back to Firestone and had them put the worn out tires back on, then I bought new Michelin and it road like a dream again.

Does anyone have confirmation in regards to the length of time the tire recall will be in effect? I went to the dealership today and had the rear tail light recall completed and he said the tire recall can be stopped at any time without any notice.

3 years or March 2018. That IS in writing.

Thanks. Can someone who has it writing, please post a pic. My letter did not give a drop dead time, only said to "do at my convenience".

Dear XXXXX:

Genesis Customer Care Center is pleased to receive your reply. We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry regarding the expiration date for Campaign P18 of your 2015 Genesis.

Hyundai Motor America conducts periodic recalls based on trends or safety concerns that are recognized by customers or service technicians at our dealerships. These recalls are put into place to ensure the safety and quality of our vehicles and the continued satisfaction of our customers. Due to the manufacturing process, typically only a small percentage of vehicles in a given model year or model type will be affected. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified of any recalls via certified mail and by notifications on their MyHyundai account.

Hyundai is aware of a small number of customer comments about the tires on the 2015 Genesis. Specifically, some customers have mentioned slight tire noise and vibration which may be amplified by road conditions. As a result, we have changed the Hankook Noble2 factory installed tires to 19-inch Continental ProContact tires (5.0L) or 18-inch Michelin Primacy MXM4 (3.8L). To ensure our customer?s satisfaction, we will replace existing Hankook Noble2 tires with the 19-inch Continental ProContact tires (5.0L) or 18-inch Michelin Primacy MXM4 (3.8L) at no cost. Our offer for replacement is available for the next three years through March of 2018. We hope this information is sufficient to your question.

Thank you for contacting the Genesis Customer Care Center and for being a valued member of our Hyundai family.

That's pretty black and white right there.

Got my tire replacement letter in the mail today. Basically just says come in for the replacement "at my convenience". I reckon that'll be when I have about 30,000 miles on the Hankooks...or maybe by then I'll decide to get something else so they won't mess with my ECU.

May I ask.... what is the build date on your Genny and when did you purchase it.

Thanks

Hi NVA bob
Just got a mail delivery and I just got the tire replacement letter :=)
the letter does not show an expiration date... It says make the change at your earliest convenience

Well, just to make sure the expiration date is really, really clear (as mud!), I received my tire exchange letter from Hyundai yesterday on my 2015 Genesis V6 HTRAC Ultimate (built 1/20/15; bought 6/2/15) but the letter does NOT include an expiration date. So, I called Genesis Customer Service and the campaign is to remain open for the foreseeable future with no time limit. I request an email confirmation and here's what he sent me:

"Thank you for contacting the Genesis Customer Care Center with your P18 tire inquiry today. We appreciate the desire to know if there is a timelimit in which to have the campaign performed.
Per the information available to us the offer to replace the factory Hankooks with Michelin Primacy MXM4 tires is to remain open for the foreseeable future. When you are ready you may coordinate the exchange directly with your dealer and/or if you prefer the Genesis Customer Care Center can assist in arranging the appointment for you as well."

I have a case number and the rep's email, so I'll go on the assumption there's "no time limit" and if "the foreseeable future" changes tomorrow with no notification from Hyundai, I'll have this case/email as backup for my claim at a future date.

I just received my letter, yesterday, and it shows no end date. However, when I was at dealer for service, and told them I was holding off another service interval before swapping tires, the adviser mentioned that this is NOT a recall but a service campaign, and can be withdrawn at any time by Hyundai, and to not wait for an extended period of time to make a decision as he has seen previous campaigns withdrawn without notice (not necessarily for Genesis) so I cannot imagine that this campaign is open ended.

Another interesting point that I saw in my letter, is because the Michelin tires are only V rated vs. W for the Hankook, they will be flashing the ECC to limit the top speed from 150 MPH to 130 MPH. I suppose this is a safety/ liability issue that Hyundai is covering, but I had not seen this mentioned or discussed much in previous posts (I may have missed it). Not that I plan on going 150, let alone 130, but man, just thinking your car is now going to be slower that before is like being told your testosterone levels are very low!!

Anyhow, I have also attached a copy of the letter I just received.

The reduction in maximum top speed to 130 has been discussed in too much detail in the earlier posts.

Hadn't paid as much attn to that as I had people's opinion on the drive of the tire. Seems pretty mixed.
