Replacement Tire Problems on 3.8

I just had mine replaced Saturday (25,000 miles) and all is well. I was going to run the Hankooks to 30,000 but the car was out of alignment and the tires were wearing uneven so I had to pull the trigger a little early. Hankooks were getting noisy as well. My car is a RWD.

when the hankooks are swapped out for the michelins...does the dealership also do a four wheel alignment?? just wondering...

No. I had to pay for that. Recall is for free tires, mounting and balancing.

I have a 2012 3.8 (bought in October 2013) which came with new Dunlop Signature II tires. They have been ok so far but I would like to have a stiffer tire for better cornering. I asked about using 235/55/17 tires instead of the 225. My tire guy says that it would be OK. Has anyone put 235's on their Genesis?
I had the Michelin MXV4 on my Azera and they were great. I got 80K out of them before replacing with the same tire.

As long as you are rwd, not and issue. They are pretty close in size but not identical so your speedometer will read about 1 mph faster. Being the speedometer is about 1-1.5 mph slow with the factory tires it should pretty much make it dead on with the new size.

I have a brand new 2015 3.8 AWD Ultimate with Hankooks that had 700 miles on the car when I left this morning. We drove from Indiana to South Carolina (600-700 miles) and these tires have the worst vibration and rapid thumping noise I've ever heard from a tire even on brand new interstate pavement. My wife started in the passenger seat and could hear it, but said she could really feel it when she started driving.

I'll be calling up the dealership when I get back from vacation to talk about replacing the tires.

On a brand new car make sure to check the tire pressure. They often forget to air them down after shipping. Good luck - I hope the solution is this simple for you.

Ckon is right about the probable cause of the tire anomaly it’s been stated quite frequently in past posts and makes a big difference. On another note if you’re considering tire change I would say that a lot has to do on your environment. If you seldom see adverse weather then I would stick with the Hankooks but if not I would read a prior post of mine concerning this topic.

I’ve had the Michelins on my car for about 2 months now and have absolutely no problems with them. This is “my” assessment of the original tires and the new ones. The Hankooks were a little softer riding and handled better on dry ground. The Michelins are definitely better on wet ground and just as quiet. From my prior experience with these same tires on my Infiniti G5X (an AWD) I know them to be an above average snow tire. I can tell you that the Hankooks were not that good in snow because I had them on during the snow months. So where does that leave us….the Hankooks have excellent performance on dry ground and a good ride but fall short in rain or snow.

Took my Genesis 3.8 to the dealer for the 7500k service yesterday. The service guy asked me if I wanted to change the tires and I said not yet that I wanted to get a year out of them first. He said that was no problem.

Was the vibration cured by setting the tire pressures back to normal?

I would stay with the Hankooks for a while. Not everybody has a problem with the Michelins, but in my opinion they are no better from a ride viewpoint and they still have the flat-spotting problem when sitting for a while. Like the Hankooks this goes away after a few miles. Regardless of which tires you have, you should still get a set of winter tires if you encounter low temperatures and snow in your area.

I had my LR tire changed after hitting a pothole in March with another Hankook. Tire store raised the cold PSI to 35 and vibration became more apparent. I dropped it down to 33 before leaving on a 1000 mile trip and ride improved. I also think it isn't as bad with warmer weather. I'm holding off on tire swap until I get more definitive information on this forum.

Agreed that dedicated snows are the best for severe conditions. My Michelins have never exhibited any flat spotting problems on my prior car and present car. I am well aware of the reports asserting said problems. Don't really understand it but don't doubt it. Possibly a run of bad tires. My opinion of the bad weather performance of the Hankooks I stand by from experience. Not talking about deep snow either but light snow. My wife would not drive the car in even light snow and often commented about loss of traction in rain. The new tires are excellent in the rain. While they've not been tested in snow yet judging from my prior experience with them on my AWD Infiniti I'm confident as to what to expect.

I find the Hankooks great on dry and wet roads - but not so great on snow/ice. I'll be getting dedicated winter tires/wheels this year.

And, conversely, I think that may be one of the reasons the techs have a hard time noticing flaws in the ride of the Genesis - they aren't used to driving anything so quiet and smooth so they don't feel the nuances of vibration, etc.

I've been driving a 2015 Sonata Sport since Monday while the dealer is trying to fix my rattling sunroof (so far, unsuccessfully). While not as refined as the Genesis for sure, the road noise and vibration is actually very low as well.

I had a 2015 Sonata ultimate that I gave to my wife when I got my Genesis. I have been driving it this weekend and I can absolutely tell a difference. I also agree that this is why the techs have a difficult time, they are used to ride/drive/build quality of accents elantras and sonatas and cant notice the subtle differences that hey should be feeling.

The funny thing is I drove my Sonata for a year before I bought my Genesis. I thought that car was freaking awsome.
