  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rigid Collars installation

Thanks for the clarification. I just ordered the Uniq set and will have my mechanic in town attempt this. He's very reputable and is adamant in fixing an electrical sensor issue in my Maxima that no other shop has fixed and is eager to work on a RWD V8 Hyundai sedan he's never even heard of.. Do flynblind's directions and photos depict the correct way of installation? Below is another thread on this subject and other Genny owners were debating over the specific locations of the "F" and unmarked collars. Sounds to me they go to the middle bolts on the front subframe, with the unmarked one on the driver's side and the "F" marked collar on the passenger (pictured below). Can you or someone else confirm or correct this diagram so I know exactly what to show and tell the mechanic? Thank you

Uniq Performance Rigid Collars
Wish I could help you there but I had my mobile mechanic take care of it for me. He knew where they went already and I didnt ask him to show me.

Finally I had the time to put the collars on. I found the rear ones to be more challenging to install. Overall, it was not too bad. Thank you flynblind for giving a detailed instruction on how to put these collars on. Very helpful.

I also installed a thicker sway bar link from Moog. They are noticably thicker than stocks. Cannot wait to test drive the car later

Please help me understand better how do the thicker sway bar links help the suspension?

I did not mention anything about thicker sway bar links helping the suspension, sir.
I was just simply telling you about what other things I did following the collars installation. I will stick to the topic and never mention anything else next time.

I think it was an honest question. IMHO thicker endlinks really won't provide an improvement in suspension performance. Can't hurt but I can't think of any benefits. Now upgrading the sway bar to a thicker/solid bar would provide benefits.

I upgraded the rear stabilizer bar with the 2012+ bar already. Followed by replacing the links and installing the rigid collars.

Idk if there is any benefit in replacing the links to the thicker ones. To be honest, the sway bar upgrade is not necessary. I hardly notice any improvement.

However, the rigid collars do improve the car's handling

Nice. Yes the rigid collars really do make a noticeable difference, especially on uneven roads. Great ROI for such a small $$$ investment.

Thank you for the updates. As NSX said, it couldn't hurt to have thicker end links. I was just curious to know if they would make a difference in cornering.
I installed the 2012 shocks and springs on my 2009 a few years ago and glad I did. The change was smoother but not floaty at all; just removed most of the jittery bounce. I always thought about changing the sway bar but never got around to it. I also have the rigid collars but haven't installed them yet. I'll need to get to them soon.

Did anyone ever post the torque specs on reinstalling the bolts?

I would double check the torque numbers that rxnov lists. I think the specks that are posted by Sluh, in post #39 on this thread are much more realistic for this crucial part of our suspension.

Post #39 is correct for the rigid collars bolts. It is also listed on the lists I attached.
My fault. I guess I was thinking about the rear sway bar torque numbers.

Thanks for the reply, I did not want anyone to use those incorrect numbers and create an unsafe condition.

Just installed mine today, drove car up on ramps and got to it. Not really that hard of an install, working with limited room was the main factor. All in all job was pretty smooth, and as said above collars go between bolt and subframe.

Since I did one bolt at a time, I don't believe an alignment is necessary since the subframe was not actually moved. On initial drive, car feels tighter.
Can you please tell me what ramps you used, the ones I used for my coupe do not allow me to drive my sedan on. Thank you.

Purchased mine from harbor freight, low profile design. Gives you about 10/12 inches of clearance. I think they cost around $35

Thanks for the reply, will look into that suggestion.

I'm in the process of installing the rigid collars and am having issues aligning the front driver side bolt. It's off about 1/16 of an inch. I've tried prying the subframe to hand thread the bolt but can only get the first couple threads in before it feels like it's going to start cross threading. Has anyone else ran into this issue and if so how did you get the bolt in? Thank you in advance.

15 5.0 I have ,not sure if they are similar. But I loosened all 4 bolts that were getting collars and used prybar to move sub frame. Maybe save that bolt for last. The more colars I installed the bolts got more aligned in the hole.

Kraig - thank you for the reply. I have a 2013 5.0 so it's different but am doing the same process as you. I'm on the last bolt and it's being super stubborn.
