My experience with my 2012 5.0 seemed to have no effect with off the line acceleration. It did seem to actually slow down the down shifting action of the tranny when going WOT from 30 - 40 mph. I have never previously experienced any throttle response lag with my white Genny.
Other than protecting the transmission, I wonder why Hyundai provided this mechanism. I am suspect, however, that there may be other reasons for it.
GRIFF.
One thing i haven't seen anyone mention.. Since the amount of air that the computer has learned the car will receive during acceleration will be changed..
I removed the flapper door completely and have not looked back since.
That's the way I'm leaning. Although I think the mod I did is nearly the same as removing the door as the magnetic force is keeping it open and a very small amount of vacuum should open it fully, or just the force of the car surging forward. If I remove it completely I just have to remember before I take it in for any serious service work to put it back in. Of course I could always play dumb and just say I have no idea what the flapper door is or why it's missing from my car. I bet most mechanics at Hyundai would never know it was gone anyway.
Funny, when I replaced the Hyundai filter yesterday with the K&N there were a couple leaves in the air box and a price tag from some store stuck in it.
I haven't really noticed a big difference in driving yet but it's only been 25 miles or so and I didn't flash the computer after I did it. At a stoplight this morning when I knew the engine and transmission were warmed up I floored it when the light changed. The rear tire(s) instantly broke loose and the ESC kicked on to get the car moving forward without much fuss. I just put new Bridgestone Serenity Plus rubber on all the way around so I probably wont do that too often, but it was fun![]()
Glad to hear your results. Yeah with new tires I wouldn't do the burnout to often. lol
Before you modded the flapper door were you able to break the tires loose?
I was not able to before I removed the flapper. I'm very pleased with the results after removing the flapper door.
I wrote a full review a few pages back if you have not already read it.
LOLWUT?!
429 hp and you weren't able to smoke those tires?
I also took the flapper valve out of the intake box as well. Made a big difference! I have the stock filter. Idk if a k and n filter would make a big difference.
Yeah, because I changed two variables simultaneously, I couldn't pinpoint where the magic happened, but the combination has me very happy!
Excited for us both to get our exhausts in the next two days too!
