  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Spy shots of the long-awaited GV80.

According to KoreanCarBlog we should see a GV80 debut in September or October but since the CEO confirmed the G80 for september, what do you guys think that means for the GV80?

It would be kind of odd for them to reveal 2 cars in 2 or 3 months no?

"We will have a brand-new G80 coming out this September in Korea and subsequently on global markets. With that car, you will see the next evolution of our design language," he added.

The GV80 was stated for November. It may seem odd, but for Genesis it's essential to get the new G80 and GV80 out quickly. The G80 is outdated and the Australian version lacks features; like lane-keeping and automatic parking. The competition has new releases, so they can't wait any longer. They've been patient, making what looks like two new leading vehicles. They just need to release them as soon as possible.

The wheels look nice, and interestingly only slightly different from the new G80's.

From the looks of it, does the GV80 have its front cruise control plate on the very bottom and not camouflaged on the grill anymore? I think that little camoed square on the bottom is it, kinda like the BMW sensor now, but I don't know if a camoed car would even have the cruise control plate at this stage.

I sure hope this means it will be rated to tow more than 5000lbs. If it can't I won't be able to consider it. Fingers crossed!

The GV80 was spotted testing along side the BMW X5. As you can see this model looks like it is getting into the stages of P1 and P2 before it gets revealed. Hope you all like this. Btw the BMW X5 is a beast, I’ve driven it and it’s one of the best SUV’s I’ve driven in a long time.

Btw forgot to mention that I saw a picture earlier of the Kia Sorento doing the same testing with it towing the X5. Is it for benchmark purposes or is for towing capability??

Probably both. Why would they tow an expensive X5 for capacity testing when they could tow a broken down Tahoe...LOL.

Perhaps the X5 broke down and couldn’t keep up !!!! ;)

Probably more likely that they had the X5 around for benchmarking purposes, needed a load to test, and could conveniently use the X5 as such lol.

Man, I can't wait for this thing to be revealed...I think this will be a beautiful SUV inside and out.

So I just realized something on these images. The X5 that they are are testing is fully loaded. I can tell because of the equipment from the exterior packages. So one thing is the ride height of the X5 is very low which implies that it has the air suspension package. Now when I looked at the GV80 I realized that it to was very low compared to other spy shots we’ve had. Is there a possibility that it will have air suspension.

I'd imagine air suspension is guaranteed, essential even.

I checked out the Telluride and found it to be a really nice car. I suspect the Hyundai version will be equally good. My only real criticism was that that I want a bigger engine and more upscale creature comforts -- hence, I can't wait for the for the Genesis version GV80. My only disappointment there according to the report above is that I wish it would come with a v8 and not just V6's (I own a 2018 G90 5.0). I also admit to being a lead foot.

As for the BMW X5, I agree with Glaz that the X5 is great. I've owned two X5 V8'a and still have a X5 diesel which is a fantastic performer (and which i plan to keep even with a GV80). So why get the GV80 instead of a newer or additional X5? Price performance and long term maintenance cost.

I admit to being older than dirt and retired these days but, owning a BWM after 4 years of paid maintenance warranty is pure insanity. Last week I took my out of warranty X5 in for an oil change, brake fluid flush, and general 40K mileage inspection and it was $1200!!!

I suspect that the GV80 will have all the same cute toys as a new albeit higher performance BMW X5, but certainly cheaper lon term maintenance and probably about $35K less to purchase.

And, truth be told. Since i don't care about taking 90 degree turns at 75 mph any more, I don't actually need a BMW ;-)

So, put me on the list for a fully loaded GV80 and don't hold the sauce....

I too looked at the Telluride but it's a little bit pricey for what it is, just like all the other crossovers of that category. GV80 will probably be right up my alley (features, performance, etc.)

Regarding the performance, the X5 40i does 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds. The V8 version (50i) does it in 4.6 seconds.

Compare that to the current G80 3.3 twin turbo V6: it does 0-60 in 4.9 seconds according to car and driver. See here: 2019 Genesis G80. G80 is also on the heavy side for the category.

So even compared to the much pricier BMW X5 50i, there is only a 0.3 seconds difference. I don't know about you but for me, that performance delta is not worth 20k. Not to mention the future maintenance costs associated with a german brand.

The G80 is incredibly quiet (67db if I remember the AoA review correctly) and rides comfortable which is what I'm after, more than handling dynamics. According to multiple review outlets, the G80s handling isn't too bad either. Regarding handling, I would say that BMW probably has an edge over Genesis models of the current generation but we will have to reserve judgement until the new generation G80 and GV80 reviews are out.

Can't wait for the Palisade to come out.

I noticed that on Genesis Canada website they list the 2020 G80 as the current model you can buy today. Does that mean the new generation G80 and GV80 are going to be 2021 model year? If that is the case, we should not expect to be able to buy them before june or july 2020.

What do you guys think?20713
