  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Rattle

I dont know if I should start a new tread ,but I found out from the tech website that there is going on fuel cost reimbursement, the guys in Korea calculated wrong MpG fuel usage ,and it was off 1 mile per gallon, and nobody telling you this, this is only when customer inquire,so they reimburse you ,actually you could get around 70-80 $ a year you driven the car,not much but at least something, here is website you can check if you eligible putting VIN https://hyundaimpginfo.com/

The rattle is at the 8 second mark as I am going down the drive and turning right.

That is not the persistent rattle I have in mine - that sounds more like a creak and I hear that occasionally as well. Lubrication may very well address that.

thanks so much thats my noise i would swear its from the rear bless all of you guys . Im going to shoot more grease in that sunroof then i have shot in my wife of 25 years.

Roikins, that sunroof PDF is for the first generation, btw (as is the fuel-purchase reimbursement program you're reading about, I suspect).

LOL I practically coughed up my Great Grains cereal after reading that line. Listening to the video with headphones on, I'd maybe categorize it as a click or a "kerthunk". What I thought was interesting was that it seemed to happen when the rear suspension was compressed, right before it transitioned from the incline to level road.

Glad it helped :) I've done two applications of silicone based lube and it has made a significant difference. I will be applying another coat tonight.

That's what made me believe for the longest time that it was from the rear. I was lucky to actually go down that driveway one day with the roof open and was surprised to not hear the noise which lead to the discovery that it was indeed the roof.

What pisses me off is that the service technicians could not determine this. And despite doing half the job of identifying it, they have failed to resolve this issue after 6 visits.

I have the same "rattle" ( it is really more like an annoying bump). The dealer here has heard it. I elected to hold off on fixing until Hyundai can find a fix. My 3.8 AWD Ultimate was picked up in June 14 and I really like it EXCEPT FOR THIS rattle/bump. It need to be fixed

i think i might have a explanation ,yesterday i signed up for access to hyundai tech site.
One weeks access is 20$,so i was surfing almost all night. What surprised me there was a troubleshooting guide for techs and possible faults and errors. There was a 20 web pages around 18-20 possible errors in each page. I found about the sunroof cracking noise, turns out that it's easy fix ,needs to open a sunroof and use silicon to put under the rubber,if you need detailed info, let me know i can download as pdf and sent to you. Also i found this very interesting
clicking noise from radio speakers caused by wireless telephone radio frequency interference
description:
Some vehicles may experience an intermittent, faint clicking sound from the radio speakers. The noise may be described as either a clicking or popping sound from the dash area. This sound may be caused by radio frequency (rf) signals emitted by the vehicle occupantis wireless phone.
Wireless telephones are hand-held phones with built-in antennas, often called cell, mobile or pcs phones. Wireless telephones are two-way radios. When a person speaks into a wireless telephone, it picks up the personis voice and converts the sound to radio frequency energy (or radio waves). The radio waves travel through the air until they reach a receiver at a nearby base station. The base station then sends the call through the telephone network until it reaches the person you are calling.
Click for zoom window
when a person receives a call on his/her wireless telephone, the message travels through the telephone network until it reaches a base station close to his/her wireless phone. Then the base station sends out radio waves that are detected by a receiver in his/her telephone, where the signals are changed back into the sound of a voice.
Radio frequency energy from wireless phones can be picked up by electronic devices in the car such as:
Radio receiver
radio speakers
external amplifiers (if equipped)
some wireless telephone providers require the phone to check into nearby base stations periodically for voice mail messages and reception signals. In addition, it informs the cell site if the phone is in range.
The occupant may hear a clicking noise from the speakers when the following occurs:
The occupant is making a call
the occupant receives a call
the wireless phone is checking into a nearby base station
the wireless phone changes cell sites
hyundai radios are designed to comply with federal communication commission (fcc) rules, which state operation is subject to the following condition:
This device (radio receiver) may not cause harmful interference
this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation
to minimize the interference of the radio receiver:
Reorient or relocate the wireless phone (increase the separation between the wireless phone and the radio receiver/speakers/external amplifiers)
this condition varies, depending on the wireless phone make and model, service provider and geographical area
drive with the wireless phone off to see if the clicking occurs
do you have a link to that paid site. Thanks mac

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think one of the best ways to determine if the problem is in the pano roof is to tilt it up and see what happens to the symptom. If the symptom lessens or disappears with the roof tilted you have a pretty good indication that you're on the right track. Good luck.

EDIT: PS: FWIW, mine has been quiet for a week now.

Thats the best to wait. I had a fj cruiser that every time you had to brake hard it felt like you were tapped from behind by another car after 12 trips to the dealer where the even changed the tranny it was not fixed until toyota had a tsb on a drive shaft now called propeller shaft to be replaced. Then it was fixed.

Had that problem on every 4Runner I've had til this last one where they finally found a way to fix it. Used to just load the rear of the shaft with grease. :)

That's definitely how I determined my case. Roof tilted up or open = no sound whatsoever.

That's my noise too! Very annoying and it only happens when going over a bump or dip in the road while turning left or right. With the sunroof open, no noise at all!!

The fuel reimbursement is for cars made from 2009-2011, but anyway you can check your VIN if you eligible , I have a month old, tried to see, of course I am
not eligible.
