If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Rattle

Guys after taking apart the trunk ,a pain in the ass, tightening every bolt I could underneath the car pulling all the wheels off tightening everything there I could get a wrench on I have isolated the problem in my car . Once again with wifey assistance sitting in the back seat with her hand threw the ski pass through into the trunk thats where the noise is being felt the knocking noise is being felt right at that position coming from below. so its either play in the drive shaft or the rearend itself is moving making contact , I'm going to get under now and take a picture of it and start a new thread to get my problem separated from the sunroof issue. Mac

I dealt with this issue for 3 years on my 2012 Genesis 4.6. I cannot believe that the potential to have to live with it again is in front of me. .and this time I bought the car, rather than lease. Arrrrrrrrrrrgh

Hmm I found that on the 1st gen you absolutely have to periodically lube the body between the sunroof panel and the glass or it's going to squeak, etc. Can't speak on the 2G yet.

My guess is that the 2g will probably be the same. I think it's the nature of the kind of plastics used in these applications that they will start suffering stiction as they dry out and will simply require a re-lube.

Have your got your problem fixed? Can you share how?
I have same rattle just like you described in your post and I just can't figure out where it is coming from.
To me on the driver's seat, it sounds like coming from the inside of the passenger's side door.
To my wife sitting on the passenger seat, she said it's coming from the back.
Tilting or opening the sunroof only makes the noise little harder to hear but it still rattles.
It sounds like a metal flat stick rapidly flapping and hit some metal or plastic part.
I also get occasional sunroof creaks but I believe it can be eliminated by lubing and taping and so on as many people helped themselves.
I'm new to this forum and thank everyone to share the ideas and fixes and hopes.

My genesis started having slight ticking noise that seems to come from rear area somewhere. Perhaps center rear seat or around there. I tried driving with rear sunshade up/down, but no difference.

It does sound like a metal part hitting against plastic or vice versa.

I started to hear a noise that went away after the car warmed up a bit. I noticed that the sound was not there when the rear side window shades were pulled up, but last night I put them down to clean the windows and never put them back up. It was since lowering them that I heard the noise (on my way to work today). It is possibly something to do with the rolling mechanism of those shades, which would make a ticking noise from the back. This is just a hypotheses at this point, I haven't been in my car since arriving at work this AM, but I am going to pay close attention when I leave.

I recently drove a 2015 genesis awd with the ultimate package. I heard no noise during the four hour test drive. Does the rattle issue associated with the sunroof pertain to the pano roof. Is this wide spread and should it discourage me from signing the lease on Saturday.

I have no rattle in my 5.0 Ultimate. Best car I have ever purchased by far.

Has anyone experienced the rattle/noise issue in builds after August. This is a fairly active thread, and with over 12,000 views, it's very discouraging when getting ready to make a purchase. Is this a problem for the many or the few.

I recommend you take the car you plan on getting for a lengthy test drive with the stereo & AC (or heater) off and listen. Open up an close the sunroof multiple times, if you here no rattles, buy it.

Well, picked up my car on Saturday and I'm loving the ride. Unfortunately in the northeast, two days of snow and ice storms, 18 degrees, not the best conditions with a car that's got 98 miles. Today, driving to work, I hear the roof creaking, not really a rattle. There is no snow on the roof of the car now, some small ice particles on the gasketing. Is this more due to the weather and ice as opposed to the rattle as described in the thread?

This was similar to my experience, when I got mine in December. I have sprayed three or four rounds of silicone lube, just to be safe, but the creaking and rattling is not noticeable any longer. I have talked to the dealership, and he said if there is any noise coming from the roof that I'm not happy with he will tear it apart to see if there's anything loose, but I'm afraid that would cause more problems.

I had this on my 2011 optima the dealer said they didn't hear it but it was clearly there and I dropped the headliner and dynomat every spot and it helped.

what I thought was a rattle in the side rear doors due to the sunshades turned out to be a couple small toy pieces my youngest son had in the cup holder of his car seat (which slides into the seat base be). So, as of now, no rattles in my side doors or in he sunroof. I did have this rattle issue in my 2012 4.6 though, so I know how annoying it is and difficult to isolate. Again, car born on Oct 16, 2014

Taking mine into the dealership on Friday. They are taking it out and putting a layer of felt down. They seem convinced it will solve the rattle. Time will tell...

Dear ferrethouse,
I have the same problem of sunroof rattle, but when I took my car to the Hyundai dealer in Houston a couple of months ago, they said they could not hear the rattle.
I am going back to the dealer soon as the rattle noise is getting worse. It is really annoying. I am glad to hear that your dealer has acknowledged the problem and is willing to fix it.
Can you kindly let me know at which Hyundai dealer you are getting yours fixed?
I thought my dealer can contact your dealer and get some help in fixing mine.
Thanks much.

Take the service writer or tech in the car with you for a drive and point it out to them.

Also helps to bring printouts of the forum threads to show them that it's a common problem.

I had less of a rattle and more of a short, low pitched "groan", especially when I turned and went over bumps or slight changes in elevation. I took it in last week and the technician found it in the sunroof. The bolts securing it had to be tightened. Of course, he had to remove the entire headliner to get to it. But now the noise is GONE!

My rattle has been fixed. They removed the sunroof and put down a felt liner. I love my car sooooo much more now. I drive around without the stereo on for the first time since I bought it and love listening to the engine. I even leave the liner open and no noise :)
