  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Rattle

The body flex shifting noise is how all of this started for me. I bought my first one in November 2014 and the second one one month ago.

The only way that this issue will gain any traction is if everyone reports this as many times as possible Hyundai directly and I would suggest even calling them. I had a case number with the first car before my trade. This is what is at the bottom of my emails from them.

Wait, you bought two or you bought one and they completely replaced it?

Also, what exactly did you say in your email? Apologies for sounding so naive about this, this is the first car I've ever purchased and I'm just not sure how to go about it. Survived in the city for 10 years post college using public transportation, so disheartening to have a car I liked so much already have issues.

Two cars and two replaced sunroofs.

From what I can figure by reading past posts there are quite a few sunroof noise problems, but I seem to be the only one with a problem when the roof is fully open. If I even close it just an inch from fully open most of the rattle stops. It seems like a little tension on the accordian seals is enough to stop the noise. I'm VERY reluctant to take the car in for service on a problem that nobody else is experiencing so I guess I'll wait til spring in hopes that a TSB or two will show up.

The good news is that the sunroof problems seem to be the only ones anyone is having. For a completely new platform, IMO that's remarkable!

PS: A little over 6K miles here - anyone else have a similar problem?

Same issue here on new 3.8 AWD Ultimate. Distinct rattle when sunroof is open and you drive over any road imperfections. Not consistent in that some 'bumps' bring it out and not others. Not happy about it but figure better to wait for a TSB than to try and have the dealer fool around with it.

There will be no TSB if you don't complain about it - so let your dealer and Hyundai know about it.

I wish my issue was as easy as that. Now it seems to be making noises whenever the car is in a flexed position, ie going over a speed bump or pothole, going into a driveway thats elevated from street level, etc. I'm not even sure I would call it a rattle as much as the sound of something being stressed or twisted, if that makes sense.

Precisely the issue with my Genny. Drove me nuts. Went to the workshop no less than 5 times for the same issue. The techs were useless. I solved it by spraying it with silicon lube and fitting pieces of sponge tape in the grooves were the glass comes in contact with the rubber seals.

I've had same issues. They've done everything from padding it to lubing it up. Nothing seemed to fix the issue. Now I'm getting new pano roof and its gonna take like a week. I doubt that will fix the issue because all loaners have same issues as well. My car has been fixed 5 times and now sitting in shop for a week until they get new pano roof. Doesn't that qualify for Lemon Law? Roof rattle/creek in my opinion impacts the value of car.

I had my squeak/rattle "fixed" right after I took delivery and noticed it. They had lubricated something which did make the noise disappear. This was back around September of last year. The noise just returned about a month ago, and I had them fix it again last weekend while they performed my 15,000 mile maintenance. The noise is gone again. One thing of note, when they were done, he specifically said they "applied the service bulletin on the sunroof". No further details, but thought it was interesting that he mentioned a service bulletin. I'm guessing that after washing the car so many times whatever lubrication they apply must slowly get washed away? I don't really open the sunroof much at all.

There is no TSB for the pano sunroof. There is a TSB for creaking on the older non-pano sunroofs (attached) - it involves using a dry silicone spray on the back of the panel gasket. So, if they are referencing this, they are being a little disingenuous as it doesn't apply to the 2015 pano roof directly - apples versus oranges.

Well it was a service adviser I have never seen or dealt with before at my dealership. I'm guessing he didn't know what he was talking about. He was very slow to check me in as well. Luckily the lubrication works for my sunroof noise issues so far (fingers crossed) however it's annoying that it's not fix it once and it's done but reoccurs. I still love the car though! :)

I've also had a new rattle show up since right after my 10K KM service. For the longest time I thought it was the roof, turns out it was coming from the rear passenger-side door. Of course, the incompetent technical staff could not fix the issue and I have no energy to make more runs to the shop. I am learning to ignore it.

Try this...... pull up the side sun screen and lock it in place.....see if the rattle goes away.
My 2012 Azera had a rattle and the noise came from the rear driver side sun screen...I thought the noise was from the driver side A pillar :)
A small piece of felt material solved the rattle

I appreciate your comments. The rattle (when open) is a minor annoyance to me. I was hoping that I might be able to fix myself or (more likely) find post here with a fix. I have little faith in the dealer fixing (without TSB) and if they gave me an option of new sunroof I would not install it because I would frankly be more concerned about possible new issues created with dealer install plus hassle of extended service visit, etc.
I will mention this to dealer during next oil change to see his response. I know it is a chicken and egg argument. Wait for a TSB but if nobody complains there may not be one.

Now if they offered to install some 5.0 fog lights as an adjustment I would really be excited.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, my trim doesn't have the side sunscreens :) Any other suggestions will be more than welcome though :)

I thought all 2015 came with side screens ???

I'm finally getting the sunroof replaced. Had to call corporate to get my issue resolved. If you have any issues like that, simply send an email to Hyundai CEO and demand that you want your car to be looked at by an Engineer.

Keep us posted on how you make out as to whether a new sunroof fixes the problem or not.

Last Tuesday I had a Field Engineer and the local District Parts and Service Manager look at my car and they were two of the most unhelpful individuals I've ever worked with.

They witnessed my sunroof rattle and then drove another Genesis which also rattled so they decided it was normal that if you drove it on a rough road, it rattled. They won't do anything for mine.

We also drove mine on a smooth highway for about two blocks and experienced no vibration, so they figure my wheels are okay, too. What a waste. I just went out and spent $650 on new wheels because I don't want to deal with them anymore. My dealer was fine, but his hands are tied once Corporate gets involved.

I love my car, but Hyundai has really let me down.

Gonna find out by this weekend, when I drive it over some rough roads. I highly doubt it will be fixed.
