If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Supercharger or twin turbo

You don't just install a NOS system and immediately go out & dog it. You have it carefully Dyno'd so you can see what are the parameters and what is happening at various rpms and boost, then program accordingly. A good Dyno shop that has a Ford clientele would be able to do it right. Do you think it would be easier to set up a supercharger or turbo system from scratch? Right. From what I've been told, the '13+ Tau has a very strong lower end and excellent quality materials- more German than one would think.

Why would a shop that does Ford tuning have anything to do with Hyundai's? As far as I know BTR is the only people doing tuning on the Tau engines and I dont know if they have the ability to have the timing control they need for nitrous through the stock ECM. It might need to be done with a standalone ECM and that's a whole different set of challenges.

The Dyno shop tests will show the results need to keep air/fuel rations with in the parameters of the NOS/ 5.0 system. With the rich air/fuel ratio that the 5.0 has, NOS says a 50 -100 rwhp shot will not be a problem using the stock setup and 93 octane. I would imagine the BRT tune, since it gets most of its limited hp by leaning out the ratio, may be a problem, but that tune only gives by itself actual 15hp, so I guess I would delete it and use stock ECU if going NOS. Again, compare this to trying to engineer a supercharger/turbo integration tune to the 5.0!!! Good luck & $$$$. Don't know of any non company engineer has done it successfully yet, and how many years has it been? NOS is world known as the easiest /less expensive way to get more power and still have all the regular performance/economy of a stock engine when not used. It's not beautiful when you open the hood, no gleaming chrome supercharger or turbos hanging out showing your ingenuity and $$$ spent, but just relatively cheap hp hidden in a bottle.

I wasnt saying use nitrous with the standard BTR tune, I was getting at that BTR is the only people making tunes for us and they 'might' be able to make a specific tune for nitrous, although it probably wouldnt be as simple as a mail-order tune like they do now, it'd probably need real dyno time. The fueling is probably within their capability but the timing control might be an issue.

Well ,I guess that our engines may be able to handle some boost in stock form. I found this supercharged 4.6 engine concept information, so Hyundai did consider force inducting the 4.6 at one time.

However, there is no information about any internal changes that may have been made to handle the extra power if any modifications was made internally. The engine block and internals may be very strong as is. Gives me hope that my 5.0 engine is built fairly well.:)

I'd like to at least have a set of headers developed before supercharging the engine to see how much of a restriction the factory manifolds are. And in theory should be considerably cheaper and easier.

I would like to see how well the 4.6 can breathe and if that can be improved via porting or less restrictive exhaust. I was considering doing a turbo but I am not entirely confident the transmission and the rear diff can handle the extra 150hp that a blower would bring. I think I remember seeing a document from ZF that said the trans in our car is rated at about 420lb-ft.

It's hard to tell how conservative OEM's are with their ratings. sometimes it's pretty accurate and sometimes they underrate it by quite a bit. Like GM's TH400 trans is rated at 450 lb-ft but people push them way past that in stock form regularly without issues. It might be worth digging around the BMW forums and see how the ZF in theirs (same as the 6HP26 in ours) handles additional power as those guys have a much larger aftermarket

Has any one heard any thing about a twin turbo or super charger for the 2012 r spec yet?
This is an old post but has there been a ecu/or tunable chip available so i can get a custom tune on my 2012 rspec!
I was thinking turbo or even NOS kit for those pesky SRT 392 chargers and challangers! This Rspec has the potential to be a hell of a sleeper!

Looks like even BTR isn't offering the tune for the first gen 5.0s. at least I couldn't find it on their site.

If you're serious, your best bet would be to find a shop that can dyno tune the Genesis coupe and ask them if they can custom tune for you. You know they can at least crack the Hyundai ecu, the question is if the are willing to take the time to do it, and how much it will cost. A Amaller remote tuner might bite if you get a group buy together.

I have never driven the R-spec, but I have a 2015 5.0. The performance numbers looks similar, taking into account the difference in weight. Coming from a tuned Toyota Avalon, I can tell you the Tao V8 cars have a lot more to give. Maybe only 15-30 peak horsepower, depending on other mods, but I can tell there is a lot to gain in the lower rpm range. That's usually managed by twerking the ignition and valve timing, and will give noticable improvement in driveability even on a stock vehicle.

Don't think any one does it or has been really successful. Without really breaking the ECU coding, good luck even if you managed to install the hardware. I tell everyone if they want proven power go NOS. NOS told me that a 75 rwhp shot does not need any mods to the 5.0 engine or ECU and is easy to install and test. A lot of members talk about doing something great but in the end drop off line. Hyundai has no interest in further development of the 5.0 and tuners won't invest because of too small a market compared to the turbo V6, for example. The car and engine are getting old and newer non Genesis cars produce way more hp/torque without mods right off the dealer showroom floor. What little basic mods we can do will allow us to keep up or outrun most '15-'16 stock model competitors. If that can't make one happy, time to save your pennies and get another newer vehicle.

Not all the way true I know a company that's in r&d for 5.0 CAI and have successfully cracked bh3.8 ecu and are working on cracking the 5.0.. the thing about our cars that everyone needs to understand is they're Naturally Aspirated. Meaning no matter how many mods with a tune you do the goal isnt crazy high peak numbers. The goal is to create power and be most efficient throughout the curve.. essentially the second part of what roc was saying if you're just looking for dyno numbers you defintely bought the wrong car. I originally had plans to swap my 3.8 for a 5.0. But I'm leaning towards retrofitting a remnant performance bk2 turbokit instead.. if I had a choice I'd go procharger..

I need a tune or super charger/twin turbo for my 5.0. Has anyone cracked that code yet?? Ive got plenty of $$ just need the company to do it. I need results not guesses. I like having a 1 off 5.0 genesis and dont want to buy a Vett, mustang or Camaro like everyone else.

Nope. Every tuner says they got it for the 5.0 but max performance so far is between 15-25 hp, which is probably at the upper limits of the car's stock ECU. You can get pretty close to the tunes whether BTR or OBVII port tunes by very hard running the 5.0 a while before going out to run down the competition. The computer learns your mode and will go to its max parameters built in. (Must use 93 Octane). At least you don't have to put up with some of the idiosyncrasies of the BTR tune which has been pulled anyway, though I believe a Canadian company is using copies under another name. You can get close to or better than any tune so far just by deleting your 2ndary cats and running 93 Octane. Will pass emissions in Md & Va, that I know.

The Canadian Company is www.10fintec.com . They sell the BTR canned tune. They also do a custom tune event once a year. Covid has delayed the date this year, luckily for me it means I can now get my '13 R Spec custom tuned on a dyno by David Lee of BTR. They have to fly him in for the event so have to wait until international travel is permitted again. I will be posting how it goes for the information of others.
The event is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I use 93 octane and the 5.0 has nothing but power to give so I agree. Lack of traction is the Genesis worst enemy in my opinion even in stock form. I would first just buy stickier tires and turn off the traction control; and then go from there if you want more performance. I am sure the car" even in stock form" will give you a good 4.7-4.8 second 0-60 times with only better performance tires.

The car was bought with secondary cat delete and K&N filter. Only thing I have done is take out one magnet from the door flap on the intake so that it can actually open.

Not expecting huge numbers, mostly just want to have a true sport mode.

What mods do you have?
