If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tell us about your "double-take" moments

Anyone who sees my Genesis loves how it looks. It's De-badged and has the wings on the tires and back so I get a lot of questions on who makes it. When I say Hyundai, most people go silent for a moment then say...really? ...I had no clue they made something that nice. For those who are fortunate enough to ride in her they can't believe how well the car handles and love the quality of the interior. Two of my friends recently purchased a Genesis of their own, 1st time Hyundai owners...in my opinion they couldn't have made a better choice :)

I love my Genny, has been a great car overall and I will look at a new one when the 2014's hit the market next year. Since the resale value will sadly be shot by then I will probably just wind up keeping this one as my long distance driver.

I've owned my 2009 since January of 2009. The 1st year and a half I got a TON of questions etc. and the "Bentley" comments in that time period, but nothing in a long time. Just got another!

Was at the Liquor store at the counter with my purchase and a guy behind me says "did you win the lottery or something?" I thought nothing of it, but the cashier looked at me and nodded at the guy behind me, so I looked at him at said, "me?" He said yeah! I said no, it's just a bottle of Jack Daniels. He smerked and said, "no I meant your car. That's a frickin' Bentley!" I laughed inside, but responded by saying, "it's actually a Hyundai." He said that's not possible, really? Yup. A Hyundai Genesis. He was shocked. I made the comment sayin' at least it's got a V8 which is what counts, and then he couldn't believe that Hyundai even made a V8. We both walked outside and as I pulled off, I gave a throttle blip with the MagnaFlow's and looking in my rearview mirror he gave a thumbs up from his driver window of his new Honda Pilot.

Bad Ass.

The first time I saw a Genesis, about 2 years ago, I immediately looked for something to identify it. I saw the winged emblem on the trunk and thought it was a Bentley. After seeing several more over the next few months I finally figured out they were Hyundais. It didn't matter I was smitten. Well I finally got my 2011 4.6 recently and have noticed many heads turning in its direction. Several people have commented on its appearance, saying what a great looking car it was. Some have even mistaken it for a Bentley as I once did. It is the best car I have ever owned.

I own a 2012 4.6 Gen black w/wing logo.

There's not a day that goes by when this car doenst turn heads. I once was walking back to my car and saw 2 chics staring in it trying to figure out what it was lol

Had a guy ask me if it was a bentley then asked to look into it when i told him it was a Hyundai. He goes "woow they have stepped it up! This is nice man!"

It's been mistaken for a bentley numerous times. I Love this car!

I saw a 2009-2011 silver one yesterday, and it made ME turn my head and stare. That is one classy-looking vehicle.

Ruissimo, which one did you see - Silver Bentley or Genesis?:)

Bought my Titanium metallic R Spec back in October. Wing badge on trunk and rims. Since then, I've had tons of complements on it. More than once it's been called a Bently.

Caught a couple walikng around teh car when I had it parked sideways in front of my Garage door. Seeing someone up between my car and garage door caused me concern so i went out side. Lady says they were trying to figure out what kind of car it was as he Husband said it was a bently but she didn't think so. When i told them it was a Hyundai Genessis, they couldn't beleive it.

Both the wife and I have had several comments of what is it and it's beautiful when going thru the local fast food drive thrus. She said she had half the crew trying to hang out the drive thru window to see the car when she drove off.

I've gotten similar reactions when I had my Pontiac G8 but not near as many as I get with the R Spec. And I had the G8 for 3 years. ;)

I was at my local Goodyear store having a tire repaired. The tech pulled my car from the garage to a parking space and walked in through the showroom area to the garage - as he went into the garage I heard him say to the guys in the shop, "Man, that's a nice car!"

I'm a Pharmacist for Sam's Club and I park around the corner to avoid parking lot grocery cart dings. I love my car and am always on the lookout for other Genny owners to talk car shop. I have been a car enthusiast (subscriber to R & T for 40+ years) for many years and pride myself in being able to identify cars , sometimes just from seeing an interior (like on tv) Well, I was walking to my car after work and saw this man drying off his car in the parking lot (there's a hand wash do-it-yourself wash in the parking lot). I was approaching from the rear, his trunk was up and the wheels looked different than a Genny's but I thought he was drying a Hyundai Genesis. I was going to visit with him and ask him how he liked his "Hyundai" but as I got to the front of his car there was the familiar "kidney" shaped grill. It was a BMW 740. With the trunk up, I couldn't see the "spoiler" lip. I was shocked and amazed. Number 1, i totally mis-identified his car (I could almost imagine his face if I had walked up and asked him how he liked his Genesis). Number 2 My car looks almost identical to a BMW 740 (both were white) Number 3, I saved $40,000. My car is NOT, nor drives like a BMW but it sures puts a smile on my face, for many reasons.

While looking for a used car for a friend, I drove into an independent used car dealer that sells higher end vehicles. I got out of my debadged Platinum Rspec to look at a few of their cars and the salesman asked me what it was, a Bently? The owner interupted saying its one of the new Genesis, but they're very uncommon.....and great looking. He had not seen one up close so we walked around the car and I explained the features. The owner said to me "why would anyone buy a 5 or 7 series BMW when you can get one of these". I agree!

Great Genesis Moments

I was at a conference in Turf Valley over the weekend. Porsche Club of America was having a meetup. As I drive up to the resort over 30 Porsches are lined up ready to go for a joy ride. They all turned their heads to watch as I drove past.

Any great Genesis moments for you guys?

My wife was driving my titanium R Spec to work. Two of her friends were talking about what kind of car it was. She told them a Hyundai. Mone of the more superficial girls said "Aren't those cheap cars?" Wish I would have been there. Ha ha.

Re: Great Genesis Moments

I have a similar story from a couple of weekends ago. My buddy who has an S5 invited me to this car meet in Austin for German Marques- BMW, Mercedes, and Audi (held in the Cool River parking lot, if you're familiar with Austin). Anyway, in addition to his S5, he has an old, late 80s era Mercedes Sedan (forgot which one, but it's build like a tank), so he drove one car, and his wife drove the other. This was of course occasion to bring my wife as well.

Anyway, after spending a couple of hours hanging out, checking out some gorgeous rides (old and new), when the time came for us to leave (this was opening day of the NFL season, so I wanted to get back for that), I didn't want my wife and baby to have to walk across a pretty big parking lot, so I drove into the "meet" area with the Genny. I had several people walk over to check out the car in the brief time we were "loading up" :-). I got more than one, "Wow, Hyundai has come a long way!" comments.

"Indeed they have; indeed they have."

Re: Great Genesis Moments

First night I got the Genesis...stopped to fill up about 9PM. In pulls a couple in an E-class. They started talking about how many Genesis they see, and how they really think they bought the wrong car, and that their next one will be a Genesis.

Had a couple young guys at work asked me how much my Lexus cost.

Thats about it.

Re: Great Genesis Moments

Good stories. I will add that like most of us on here, I have owned several other nice/sports cars (acuras, bmw's, z28's in my younger days); but I have never had the amount of appreciation from people who would comment on how nice my car is (2012 Rspec). I never received those accolades from my other vehicles. Hell, even the car wash guy (I am there every 2-3 days; have a monthly pass) tells me that is one bad ass car. I get asked all the time, what kind of car is that; same reaction - really, a hyundai.

Re: Great Genesis Moments

Yesterday my wife tells me she is in Raleigh going down the beltline and passes a Bentley. She says the guy catches back up to her with a puzzeled look on his face and was apparently trying to figure out what it is. Thats probably the best one yet.

That's exactally what my wife's friend (who is from South Korea) when I told her we bought a new Optima.

Pulling into a parking lot the other day, a guy who was about to drive off, stopped suddenly, rolled down his window and asked me: "Is that one of those new high end Lexus's??"

He had an impressively surprised look on his face, when I said it was a Genesis.. I then realized he was clueless, so I filled in the blanks!!

He just sat there for a few seconds, admiring the looks!!
