  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Test pipes aka secondary cat delete pipes

Yes, your solution works, however now you're into some customization. Furthermore, with the fed fines on 'removing/tampering' emissions on cars, there are numerous shops that won't touch that kind of work. I've not checked under there in a while - but your photo infers that it's very tight after the cat before the elbows.

Test pipes I got fit both 3.8 & 5.0 Sedans. Not sure about coupe. Someone else must answer that.
i see a lot that connects the 3.8 and 5.0 R SPEC does any of this apply to the 4.6 ?

The R spec is the previous model (Gen 1). The last part of this thread to which the diagrams were posted and to which I replied was for the current (2015 and later) 5.0. In the 2015 and later models there is no 4.6.

To your question regarding a 4.6 - yes - the question regarding the original post that this is most definitely refers to the Gen 1 4.6. That's what I had 'test pipes' on. The were simply a spool piece of tubing with a floating flange on one end.

I have a 2011 v8 so I can't speak on if those will work. However, I do have the v6 test pipes on my 2011 4.6 v8 and it does increase sound.

I do have those same cat deletes on my 2011.

Any coupe test pipes will direct bolt on the 09 to 14 BH models

Using test pipes in place of Secondaries creates a subdued lower frequency growl at the upper RPMs. Very subtle. No vibrations. Readily passes Md. emissions inspection. Simple unbolt 2 bolts, take off, bolt up and go. If you didn't know it had originally secondaries, would believe they were stock.

Are test pipes 2.5 inch diameter?

Same diameter as
connector pipes. Never bothered to measure.
Yeah 2.5 I honestly was thinking of just cutting the flanges off the cat and weldinging 2.5 in its play so can still easily be removed if needed

If you can weld and cut, easiest and cheapest way. Save the cat parts for the next owner.

I can.. but im a rookie I have a good friend who is set up for both Mig and tig needless to say I'm glad he just moved back! For a case of beer I cant complain I'm pretty sure he said hes willing to help me with some piping modification for a turbo kit later this year.

Looking for feedback . Has anyone deleted the secondary cats on a 2015 and up 5.0 ? I'm running a Magnaflow X-Pipe and Magnaflow 11225 mufflers and have no drone . Car sounds good has a deep mellow tone . Wanting to let the 5.0 breathe a little better . Thinking of removing secondary cats and adding Vibrant resonators in there place just to be on the safe side . or has anyone removed the 2nd cats and noticed a big or minimal difference is sound or drone ? thanks

I know of no one yet. As you may or may not know - the Gen 1's were easy on the 4.6 because the secondary Cats were flanged on either end. No so with these Gen 2 Genesis 5.0s - if you remove the cats, you'll do so by cutting a piece of pipe and having some fab to tie in.

Yes , Im aware thanks . looking for real world feedback not idle clips and free revs . an in car cruise and full throttle clip would be great .

I got quoted $500 for parts and labor for a 2.5" front pipe setup to replace my secondary cats, FWIW.

I may or may not do it. Have a custom axleback muffler system they did for me awhile back that I love, but have an itch for more sound when the valves are fully open. Still have the stock resonator.

If I can get more sound out of it with secondary cat deletes and not add drone, that's ideal. If deleting the secondary cats add sound but drone as well with the stock resonator, I may then need to have them put a Magnaflow Tru-X resonator to replace the stock one. That'll change the mid-pipe setup to 2.5" as well, and it won't be cheap. Decisions decisions.

500 seems high . keep me posted . dual 2.25 is sufficient for a stock 5.0 IMO , have to be careful not to free up too much back pressure , you could lose some low end torque
