What did you do with your DH Genesis today?

If you don't mind me asking, how much did that new battery set you back? Don't know how old mine is, but I better start planning now. 😕
Advance Auto Parts charged me $220 without the core charge. Seems like a fair price for a Diehard AGM 950A battery.

Okay, great. That's exactly where I was looking. That doesn't seem like a bad deal. I've seen more expensive ones out there. Did they put it in or did you do it yourself? They say that they do installation, but not sure how I feel about a part store messing with it.

I pulled out my own battery in my garage and installed the new one myself. However, the store clerk did offer to transport it to my car and install it for me; but I drove my other car. I just carried the battery to my car for the exercise at the store.

Plus, I like to do my own work when possible because I am picky about how my car is repaired.

Beware; the battery is very heavy.

Thanks, I prefer to do it myself when I can because I'm the same way. Especially if it comes to a clerk doing the installation instead of a mechanic. Oddly enough, I've noticed one of the PepBoys stores by me was bought out by Advanced Auto Parts. The PepBoys garage is still there, so I'm wondering if they are owned by the same company or if they are in some sort of collaboration? Anyway, thanks for the info. It's good to plan ahead, because I know I'm going to have to deal with it eventually.

No, I went to O’Reillys Auto Parts. I had the guy there install it. I kept an eye on what he was doing. My battery died on me while at work, so I was caught with my pants down.
After I was reimbursed for the core, I think it was like $200. That was their Platinum series. I think they currently have a code you can use to get a discount. Try SPRING15.

Yes, that battery is like deceivingly heavy! Please be careful when lifting.
 
Yep it was fairly easy little tougher for me because im a big guy with big arms and hands lol. Just make sure the switches on the front of the module are in the correct sequence. And an added plus is the doors automatically lock when u walk away from the car and unlock when u get to the car
How's the range on the remote start? Worth it over the bluelink?
 
Today I did a drain and fill on my transmission. I used Revanol brand SP-IV RR transmission fluid that is made in Germany with my AST fluid pump to quickly fill the transmission pan.

I was under the expression that I would need about 7 quarts to fill the pan properly, but only about 3 1/4 quarts of fluid drained out of the transmission pan. Therefore, I just replaced the amount of fluid that drained out since my transmission was shifting well, so it appears to be filled correctly in that regard. Therefore, no need to waste good fluid out the level check plug.The transmission pan in my 5.0 seems to hold only about 3 1/2 quarts anyway since the fluid just flows out the fill hole when I tried to add more.

The only thing that may need be to changed on a drain and fill are the rubber o-ring gaskets on the 8mm hex drain/level plugs. The o-rings gaskets are standard 116 sized rubber gaskets, however my drain gasket still seem good even though i replaced it anyway; so you may not really need to replace it after one use. I changed my gasket to prevent a leak. The 8mm hex fill bolt uses a metal washer which I changed as well, but it seem good as well.

The job is pretty easy as transmission fluid changes go.

Note: The shift cable is in the way of the fill bolt on the drivers side of the transmission pan. In my case it helped to hold my angled fill adapter in place while I pumped fluid into my transmission, however it can also be a problem if you use a different type of pump method.

The drain bolt is the bolt in the center of the pan. The level check bolt is the bolt near the outside of the pan. I only removed the drain bolt since I knew how much fluid to replace without pulling the check bolt. However, I may still open the check bolt to make sure that my transmission is properly filled after letting the transmission fluid warm up to about 130F before I install my under body cover.

Final advice, make sure your car is level before draining the fluid or checking the level for accuracy. I used jack stands to support my Genesis.

Well today I decided to just check the transmission fluid level per the service manual and the fluid does drips at a steady rate out of the level check hole in the transmission pan; so it is good to go it seems.

I used my Torque Pro app and checked the fluid level around 130F after moving the gear selector through the gear ranges.

No, they're perfectly flushed with fenders. I have those wheels on my car.

Today I gave my ride some new brake pads and rotors. I went with Raybestos Element 3 brake pads and their Specialty line rotors. The only issue i have with Raybestos is that they use a silver coating for the front rotors and then use only a black painted hub/edge for the rear rotors on the 5.0 models.

To be honest you can not really tell the difference with the stock wheels once the pads scrub the coating off rotors so i guess it is not big deal, however I like uniformity. Other than mix match rotors, the pads and rotors fit perfectly. I will give feedback on their performance over time.

The stock front pads were worn nearly to the warning bars at 76k miles, which is good for performance brakes. The rear pads look almost unused, so the 5.0 does use the front brakes more than the rears brakes it seem. The rear pads would probably last until 100k miles until needing a change.

The brake job was pretty easy. The only issue I had was with the front rotors being rusted to the hub and needed a few hits with my 3 lb hammer to free them. The rears just came of the hub when the rotor screws was removed. The only issue with rear rotors is the tight space which forced me to use my smaller torque wench and ratcheting box wrench to loosen and tighten the caliper bolts. It is easier to use my large wrenches for better leverage, especially when torquing down 70 ft/lb bolts.

Still an easy brake job.
