  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is your biggest complaint about the Hyundai Genesis?

If you look behind the plate there are two soft pads on the trunk located towards the bottom, which protects the paint.

I had your thought at first too, and I wanted to know how a luxury car made by Hyundai provided a solution for this, and I was impressed. The pads work great.

The pads keep the plate off the paint, but are not thick enough to keep the frame, which wraps around the outer edges of the plate, off the paint.

It's an easy fix. I purchased extra pads and stuck them between plate and frame. The point is their design is cheap and I guaranty for most people the dealer threw the dealer frame on the car with little regard for the paint. This will vibrate off the paint every time the trunk is closed unless you are aware of the issue and do something to prevent it.

The nav system can't be set to tolls and highways ...always tells me to take local streets & free bridges , hours out of my way ..at least in NYC ! .. NOBODY CAN TELL ME HOW TO CHANGE IT , it has setting for ferry ? and advoid highway, short rt. etc. but nothing for tolls & highway ... DEALER NO CLUE !---- and xm traffic worthless in nyc ..I was told that it works with nav ,that you set it and it tells you if you should take another route because traffic is heavy on a certain highway ... all bull it does not work !!! IT TELLS ME ABOUT TRAFFIC THAT IS 6 MILES AWAY FROM ME ,I'M IN BROOKLYN AND IT TELLS ME ABOUT TRAFFIC IN THE BRONX ...WHO CARES ...JUST CRAP..
BEING A NEW YORKER ALL MY LIFE I KNOW MY WAY AROUND AND STILL ONLY DRIVE NYC ..WAS TOLD THAT THE NAV WOULD TELL ME TO TAKE ANOTHER ROUTE IF ONE HIGHWAY HAD TRAFFIC ...BUT IT ONLY TAKES ME SIGHTSEEING ...I DON'T BOTHER WITH IT ANYMOE ........

Press the DIS knob and under 'reroute/detour' options you will find your solution.

There are no INDEPENDENT day-night settings. There is one brightness setting. It does go black at night, but try driving past a large park sometime with the whole display screaming green at you.

Even going to a non-map display is too bright at night to have it bright enough for me in the day time when I'm usually wearing sunglasses.

My complaint is that there is no separate adjustable setting for day and night. To set mine bright enough for daytime use means I would have to screw with the DIS every time I drive at night. This, I am not about to do unless I happen to be driving many miles in a single night.

I wouldn't object to something like a thumbwheel, but frankly the DIS is a pain in the a** for any temporary settings.

1) press Navi Menu
2) map display
3) Display mode
4) Day, Night, Auto

Mine is set on night, always black

1) I wish there were more settings you could customize. For example, I wish the headlights would just turn off after I shut off the engine. I find myself checking back to make sure they actually turn off so as not to kill the battery. My Acura allowed me to change that.

2) Steering wheel intermittently loses it's memory or fails to completely get out of the way for easy exit. Works 90% of the time though.

3) Tires... may just have to change those lousy Dunlops.

4) iPod integration for an iPod loaded with many albums is pretty clunky.

Since I'm a new Genny owner. Do they ever provide system/firmware updates for these kinds of things?

WTF? The Genesis is not supposed to be taking big sweeping curves at 70mph. That's not really a steering problem moreso than you're asking way too much for a non-sports car, even moreso when comparing to the performance of a BMW (Sport package or not).

Really? Hyundai and I seem to differ from your opinion. Please reference link: http://www.hyundaiusa.com/genesis/performance.aspx.

This car is being compared by EVERY enthusiast, magazine, and manufacturer as an alternative to the BMW 5 series, Audi A6, BMW E-Class, Infinity M, Lexus GS (see this website for all the Lexus comparisons), and Volvo S60.

In the link, Hyundai seems to think it's car is both luxury AND performace. This is also what BMW says about their 5 series, hence the term: Luxury Sport Sedan. The cars listed above make up the class "mid-size luxury sport sedan". Most have similar engine sizes, interior space, and pricing.

I want to thank those of you that have commented about getting a different tire. When these POC's wear out, I'll be getting some from a different manufacturer.

The seat belt latch is TOO LOW to be convenient to buckle/unbuckle.

Orange Peel Paint Job
I have a Sapphire Blue Genesis and It has orange peel. Does anyone else’s?

The paint on my 2011 is smooth as glass over entire car. If yours is just in one area then most likely it was repaired due to damage in shipping. I purchased a new Buick back in 1977 and discovered such a repair and asked the dealer to let me see the damage report and they did. If you have orange peel in an area the dealer can fix that by sanding the clear coat and repainting the clear coat in the orange peel area. I had to have such a redo on my restored 1965 Mustang which I am very very anal about, the redo turned out perfect.

My lights are auto shutoff, yours arent? My biggest compliant is the cigarette lighter / power port not staying hot.

The headlights shut off after about a minute...
In my Acura I was able to change a setting so it shut off immediately.

If you hit the lock button twice on the key FOB they also shut off
no need to look back

Canadian head office ! Know little about the car and give NO support whatsoever. They are still in the 'Accent' mode. Love the car but wouldn't buy Hyundai again for that reason. I live with my few problems.

The drivers seat bottom (with the heating/cooling option) seems to "puff" up and looks like worn. The dealer said this is a common complaint but there is nothing they can do about it. My concern is that it will wear more quickly because it.

Other than that, wonderful car with 12K miles on it!

It was an easy fix for me. First thing I did when I got the car home was to remove and throw away the cheap plastic dealer frame.

we had a bad ride also i put in 50pounds of salt bags in the trunk over each wheel and it now rides much better

Got my 2011 White Genny 3.8 Premium Pkg (Not Nav or Tech) in late Dec'10 and have just over 1K mi on it. I'm pretty much in love so far with only minor annoyances to speak of including;

1. The Bluetooth implementation is pretty poor. Unless all of my research and unanswered inqiries to dealer service have led me astray, with my two phones paired (Blackberry & iPhone), the system will only answer an incoming call on the SELECTED device, not both. Not so on my $49 Moto headset, which when paired with two devices, will accept incoming calls from either. Of course on either my headset or the Genny, to make an outbound call with two devices paired you have to select which device you want to use for the outbound call. I'd LOVE to find out I'm wrong on this OR have Hyundai address it in a software update.

2. I'm 5'10, so not very large, and I find the edge of the center console is quite sharp and cuts into my knee when I'm on the accelerator. A softer, rounder edge or higher cut-in to the dash would have minimized this issue "for me".

3. I personally find the steering a bit too tight, but I'd rather it be tight then loose.

That's about it! Not much at all...pretty piddly if I must say. But, it's early and time (and miles) will tell...

Good luck to all...

Nope, that's how it is: the Bluetooth pairs with only one device at a time - whichever is the first one it sees. It tries them in the order listed on the screen - top one first. It's the same on the Azera that my folks have; it uses a module similar to the Genesis add-on BlueTooth that replaces the ceiling sunglass holder. It may "know" of several phones but only one can be connected.

Too tight all the way, or just too tight on either side of straight ahead? I think the "breakout force" is too high from center, then the force doesn't build up enough the further you turn the steering wheel.

Thanks Mike. Hopefully they'll address the Bluetooth implementation in future revs.

I agree with your assessment on the steering...definitely doesn't feel like it's variable depending on speed, etc. Thanks again...
