  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What things don't you like in the G70?

Some if not all have already been mentioned.......

-Cooled seats have to be turned on every time the car starts even when there is no change to the climate system.
-Drive mode defaults to Comfort upon restart. My last car a 2018 model would stay in sport mode.
-Rear view mirror should be frameless.

None of these are big deals to me just different from other cars.

+++++1 on the frameless mirror. I have seen frameless mirros with buttons underneath so they could still maintain that functionality they have there.

Drive mode will also do ECO and SMART upon start up - just not the fun ones.

I wish you could do the heated seats on remote start. The car could easily not allow that if there was someone in the seat (weight sensor) as I know this is a safety thing.

FastEddie, did you use the supplied screws and nuts or did you get some self-tapping screws for this?
Self tapping body screws. I had a bunch left over from when I worked in the body shops still have to drill a pilot hole but they have a heavy wax coating on the tip so when you screw them in it seals it for any kind of rust. Most likely you can find them at Ace Hardware may have them or a good auto paint supply store that carries nuts bolts and screws for the body shop industry

Mine keeps the cooled seats on even when I leave them at lvl1. It’s a middle eastern spec which also has the rear bumper fog light.

So if prior to shutting the car off you set the seat heater on, when doing a remote start later or the next day, the seat heater is still not on? My wife’s CX9 she’s just makes sure the seat heater is set where she wants it before shutting down, the next morning she remote starts and the seat heater comes right back on where it was last. In Texas our winters are mostly mild, but if I lived in a much colder state and wanted my seats toasty in the morning and that could not happen, not a good design IMO.

I've had 7 cars from a few makers with heated seats. Only 1 would let me turn them on and they would stay on. I liked that.

I'm not sure of all the reasoning. Often the switch is just activating a relay that turns on the power so it drops off once power is cut. You also don't want the electrical load on a cold day when you need to turn the starter.

There are many sensible reasons not to turn them on but there must be a way to do so with a time delay or even a second step.

Cool, thanks for the info.

I finally found something I don't like in my G70 - the LED headlights! I had the car out last night in some seriously heavy rain and the headlights were very poor in lighting up the lane markers and roadside signs on the freeway. I've driven C6 Corvettes for the last 10 years which had superb HID main beams (won't even mention the fog lights that I upgraded to HIDs as well) and I found the G70s LED headlights to be just plain inadequate in comparison. This car really needs better headlights and could also use some good fog lights!!

Enjoy,

To me the headlights in the G70 are the best of any vehicle I've driven. Are you sure it's not a combination of the heavy rain and sounds like you previous car had amazing headlights? You know how sometimes it rains, is dark out, and its like you don't have any headlights at all, nothing will reflect? I also heard the color of the light (ours being white to bluish) somewhere around 6000k (can't remember) isn't the best reflecting light for comfort/visibility at night compared to a slightly yellow hue.

You’re probably right about the “color” of the LEDs. I believe the mains on the C6 were about 3600K (assuming that the vendor that I bought the matching fog light HIDs from knew what he was talking about) and were far superior to the new-tech LEDs in foul weather use. The LEDs look 😎, but the car could really use some old-tech quality fog lights for safer driving when it counts most...

I found another "nit" to pick with my G70; this time with the infotainment screen day/night brightness/color shifting. It has been a dark, rainy day here today and while driving around at high noon, the infotainment kept switching back and forth between day and night mode even though my eyes didn't detect any real changes in the outside lighting level and the headlights and wipers were on the whole time. It happened probably ten times over the span of a 45 minute drive and was somewhat distracting when it happened (brain goes "what was that?"). I've never seen that behavior in an infotainment system before (in my C6 it only happened after entering a parking structure or the like). Was this a "feature" of the G70, a fluke or is there a menu setting I can change to stop it from occurring?

You were probably on the cusp of the sensitivity line. You can turn off the auto transition.

Yes, I've had this happen as well. Not enough hysteresis in their control algorithm.

Beefer,
If I turn off the auto transition, do I then have to manually toggle the system between day & night modes?

That is correct. I’ve done it once on a gloomy day where the light was on a bizarre threshold. Next day I put it back to Auto.

I will give that a try the next time it happens. Hopefully it isn't an every rainy day thing...

Alternatively, you could also try to minimize the difference in light in the settings for the screen. Aka turn daytime down to -5 and nighttime up to +5. I think that would result in a relatively consistent lighting regardless of time of day

Thanks for the suggestion! I may give that a try, but it sounds like it might be too bright at night and wouldn't stop the flipping between the white & black screen backgrounds on seriously overcast days.

I think you're right that you would still face the color change. Forgot about that issue
