If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Spy Photos

Thank you for a very detailed report. Any update on delivery time for NA?

Thanks for your review. So, headlight wise, the only option will be the lower end KDM single projector headlamp, correct? Also, any change in the transmission shifting mapping? Does it shift faster than before?

Thanks

Someone asked about adjustable bolsters. I said the car was not equipped with them. I was WRONG!. YES! It has power adjustable bolsters. The drivers side has an adjustable bolster that is operated by a sliding switch under the round lumbar controls.

Bill _ Thank you so much for confirming the power bolstered seats. Also thank you for your entire report. THANKS, Regards, Dan

I was given a walkaround of the 2015 Genesis today. I have written a complete review and its on the last page of this thread. But in response to your post, If you look at the lumbar support adjuster (the round button) you can see a little toggle on the bottom side of it. That little toggle switch controls the power side bolster. I addressed this specifically for you.
Bill - Thank you again for your specific reply to me regarding the power bolsters (I already sent you a thank you note before i saw your specific note regarding the power bolsters.

Italiabrain and I have posted about the toggle switch. He asked me if i knew what the switches in the picture of the seat were for. I mentioned that i assumed it was a 'toggle switch' for the power bolster seats. Mercy, this is good. Again, thanks you very much. Dan

According to reporters who previewed the 2015 Korean version (in Korea), the new generation Genesis does shift faster. Some people who have driven the US version of 2014 Genesis say it also shifts a lot faster than before.

Awesome. Thanks for the info!

katman - I have been trying to find out when the 2015 will be on sale here in the US also. One report i read said April, the other said Spring. If anyone finds out what the date is, please let us know. Regards, Dan.

Bill,

The trunk/hood badges? Will there be wings or an "H " for the North American market? What about the steering wheel and wheel logos? Has Hyundai learned yet that we want a touch of luxury/snoot appeal there too?

Is there still an automatic rear sun shade?

One feature I like in the current G is that the front seat bolsters don't flare upward too much. That makes the seats more forgiving to butts of all sizes. Do the new seat bolsters intrude more on butt room? For example, I love the Jag XJ, but the seats are too narrow due to the bolster flaring. Americans are not getting narrower.

What about that damn ashtray? Is it gone yet or, at minimum, do they have a coin holder insert that can replace it?

Finally, please tell Dan Pearson, before he asks, does the new G have a better operating retractable steering wheel?

PMC - Thats a good question regarding the steering wheel, thanks for asking the question. Actually since the seat has been lowered much more than the last generation G, getting to the steering wheel should be much easier due to being lower to the floor ---- the critical 'H' point as Genesis engineers refer to. But the steering wheel scope issue is still important and it should be better i assume since the Equus and the Azera telescoping travel is as designed.

Hyundai has known that the Genesis has had several issues with the telescoping, so lets hope they get it right since their competitors get it right. Will let you know if i get any real info from my dealer on the 2013 model G telescoping issue. I'm not holding my breath, but I think the person who is running it down might get me some information. I sent her the post by Bill as a FYI. She is going to a regional Hyundai meeting in Fla this week, so will see if she hears anything. She knows i am just trying to hang on to my 2013 until the 2015 comes out.

My experience is sure not the way to go when trying to get into a new car that would accommodate my spine -- taking a big hit buying a new Genesis in 2013, then buying another newer 2015 Genesis in less than a year. My only other options within $ reason are ATS, 535I, and maybe the SS (it is nice to drive with a nice race seat, but no power bolsters. Since the 2015 G will have the bolsters and new seat design, I should at the least sit in both of them back to back at the car shows here in Jan & Feb. I prefer the Genesis, but would take the SS if it had power bolsters. OK, Regards, and thanks again. Dan

drpearso, thanks. I am in Canada so will likely be at least a few months behind USA for delivery but if we know when you get the 2015, then I can approximate when to expect it here

The Parisian Gray was a medium to dark gray with a blue cast to it and would be my #1 choice too. I have had a black one and a silver now. But this one is going to end up with more takers in gray than any other color. Beautiful.

They did not speak at all about the R Spec at launch but I was under the impression its ready to go. We saw two under wraps with 19" wheels and I'm pretty certain they were R Spec. There is an online talk with Hyundai tomorrow and I will ask the question. If you go to the Hyundai website you could join the Hyundai Thinktank and join in the call.

There is a Flying Wing hood emblem but the trunk is still the Hyundai "H" I have to honest, I didn't pay attention to the wheel and steering wheel emblems closely enough to recall. We may want the "snooty" factor but they are in the midst of brand building and they want people to know you're driving a Hyundai.

There is still a power rear sunshade and manual side shades for the rear seats.

I didn't pay attention to the ashtray but I hope its there. I keep toothpicks in it. :-)

Haha...Dan, you're taking some gas....Actually the current models Retractable steering wheel is fine but my 2011 stopped operating and had to be replaced. I think Dan is suffering the same issue. Good luck on that brother.

As I mentioned to someone else, Hyundai operates the Hyundai Thinktank and if you join there are some great opportunities to learn more and even allows your input to the engineers. I want to assure you that Hyundai is listening and they really care.

I forgot to answer you on the bolster issue. The bolsters are more aggressive than previous but I liked it far more than the 2013 and 2011 seats i've had. This is going to be subjective but I'm more than willing to bet that the auto magazines will say they're not bolstered enough and some people will say they're too much. Once again I will have to refer to my earlier "Baby Bear" reference, I think they're just right.

Since I was not the driver in my ridealong I can only give you my impression from the passenger seat. The tranny mapping was a huge area of focus according to the engineer and from my vantage point it seemed a bit quicker but remember this is a transmission with a torque converter and not a dual clutch unit. There will always be some lag. But in every respect this Genesis is far superior and for the life of me I cannot imagine anyone getting into this car and griping. And at this price point it's freaking insanely well done.

Thanks Bill. I do see that Hyundai has a Parisian Gray as one of the exterior colors on current model. Almost a dark silver. Tough for me to go other than black but will consider it when I see it on showroom floor. Patiently waiting for the January 13th countdown!

Bill - Can you discuss some of the tech stuff - any specifics on Nav or audio options. The current Nav takes a beating by many - did you get to experience any of this version?

We may learn more about the tech stuff after the CES in Vegas which I think is tomorrow.

I will try to ask on the Hyundai Thinktank Q&A tomorrow.

Hyundai has been telling the media for a long time that it will be in US in 2nd quarter of 2014. That would be April, May, or June. My dealer said they expect to have some by May. The date can vary by dealer, depending on how many 2013/2014 they still have in stock. It might also depend on how far a dealer is from a port of entry. I think it is up to dealers to decide on how many to get, and when to get them. Some dealers still do not have 2014's in stock, even though we know they are available.
