The comments that follow are also interesting.

My two cents:

1. I can't accept the price difference between v6 and v8 given that v6 is great
2. Defining the competitors is important. I always think MB 350E and Lexus GS (maybe ES?)
3. Given our 5 year warranty, easily and affordably extendable to 10Y 100K, price comparisons become VERY difficult.

Challenging my number 2 myself: Is the Avalon a contender? I prefer the G1 and G2. But Toyota's reliability is a factor.

All computed: Why so few G2s on the streets?

Not a professional review, but from someone over at CL.


Just picked up 15 Genesis 3.8 AWD Ultimate, MSRP $52,800 for a family member.

I still have 14 GS AWD Luxury, MSRP $60,800.

How good is Genesis, I am going to let that family member drive my GS and I will drive Genesis.

Headsup display showing blind spot, lane keeping info, as well as nav, dynamic cruise info. While on a highway, it feels like I am surrounded by tech de force. Power pick up is nice, not as good as GS but GS is not that great either anyway. Quietness and vault like feeling, GS falls short. Handling, GS wins. Ride smoothness, almost tie but Genesis wins even with GS's adjustable damping. Audio, Genesis wins. Navigation and its interface, Genesis wins. Comfort access on all 4 doors, GS wins. 3 zone climate control with rear audio control, GS wins. Fit quality, I want to say GS wins but GS had wind noise from day one and rattling within a week which I still deal with. Genesis, vault quiet.

Will have to drive Genesis more for long term comparison, but initial impression, Genesis has done a remarkable job this time around. Just as GS got praise from media with 13 model, Genesis deserves every bit of praise it got in my opinion.

Just saw a review on the 2015 Genesis 5.0 from Russia(at least it sounded like Russian) and they get all the trimmings like the rest of the world except for North America. I know its all about the price, but really..... Russia gets the full monty and we get a trimmed down version. Doesnt seem right that Hyundai would do this. I know future models will continue to add these features, but that doesnt seem to help me today.
 
It is healthy to go over to boards like CL and see how the new Genesis is perceived, not by paid reviewers, but by the followers and owners of competitive cars. As expected, many of the posters discount the car out of hand because of the Hyundai badge. Some however, do note the same things which many say here - refinement, power and fit and finish.

Human nature says those owners will never fully endorse the Genesis, especially as enthusiasts who frequent a board of the brand they own. But it does give keen insight into how the car is both perceived (un-driven) and also in some cases how it stacks up by those who actually have driven it (pretty good). The power of the brand still reigns for many and will be the up hill battle fought for a while, even though the competitions buyers are noting the decreasing car lengths between their vaulted Lexus and the Genesis.

There are those over at CL who summarily dismiss the Genesis (or anything built by Hyundai, much less Acura, Infiniti, etc.) b/c it's not a Toyota/Lexus and turn a blind eye to criticisms of the anything built by Toyota/Lexus (like still believing that the Camry is one of the best mainstream, midsize sedans).

However, there are a no. of posters (like mmarshall) who are much more open-minded and even-handed when it comes to autos from other automakers.

But yeah, Hyundai is doing something right when (the more rationale) long-time Lexus owners start appreciating the Genesis.

Hmmmm...Wouldnt the car need a turbo to have turbo lag? Did they drive a different car than all the rest of us or are they just brain dead puddle breeders that just rehash what someone told them to type into their little computer pad?

No chrome, Safari or Firefox on a Mac. Safari on an iPhone is ok. Guess their web development is as good as their car reviews.

edit: It also got me swayed to the dark grey interior again from the light leather.

Are you f'ing kidding me? The Genesis is a superior vehicle to that car and the Mustang IMO.
