In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. 2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

This is not a Hyundai issue. Maybe they fixed it in later models but I had difficulties reading some of the orange displays (not HUD) with polarized sunglasses in a BMW 740 i owned many moons ago. And a friend who owns a BMW with a HUD has some problems reading it with polarized sunglasses (the display does not completely disappear but is hard to read). It appears to me that the technology used for HUDs (at least in cars - maybe in fighter jets that cost $100 mio.+ each, they can implement more sophisticated technology) has its limitations.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Pick yourself up a pair of these at Sunglass Hut... Non Polarized UV lensed Ray Bans. They allow you to view the HUD just like without any glasses on and they fit perfectly in the glasses holder in the car.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Major DISLIKE ..... after having flown F16s and F22s, I guess I'm spoiled by properly functioning heads up displays. Damn ... I bit the bullet and purchased my 2015 Hyundai Genesis 5.0 Ultimate package with the heads up display, expecting a similar display.

Oh, SH_T .... No pilot worth his salt would fly without using polarized lenses.
Try that with you Hyundai and the Heads Up Display goes completely dead ... so to say.
You can not see the heads up display at all when wearing polarized sun glasses.

In my opinion, this is a major screw up on the part of Hyundai

You want to use polarized sun glasses and you consider Hyundai's HUD as major screw up!... jeeeezuz... talk about pedantic! Take your glasses off, for goodness sake!

AND Lockheed could not get the F22 to fly, or fly better than the YF23... So they did behind the doors deals to grab the billions. Now these potential criminals and their cronies in .gov and .mil will extort one trillion from all of us the the non performing, easily hacked F35. Lockheed has gone from Skunk Works, to just Skunks. Let's see if our F22 driver will come back and comment on some of the comments above.

Love the non polarized "Ray Ban"s idea... Those really Ray Ban, or a Sunglasses hut with a trench coat guy pulling out Rolex and "Ray Ban"? Serious, good idea for those who are sensitive to light and have consumer grade HUD.

They are Ray Bans and were around $100...

Why would you use sunglasses and pull major G's? I rode motorcycle with sunglasses and they were a pain and distraction. Any sun or glare protection is built into the helmet visor which is matched the the plane's HUD.

Even if you did wear polarized sunglasses in that generation of plane, it most likely used CRT technology to project the image onto the HUD. At that time, most of the glass cockpit avionics were CRT based. CRT will not be affected by polarization. Most modern civilian avionics are now using LCD screens which can uses a polarized screen. That is how LCD's work. I think I read somewhere that civilian pilots were discouraged from polarized sunglasses for this very reason.

You would need to go to plasma display technology to avoid this issue, but it is not really suited for a rough environment and it consumes WAY more power.

In short, get some cheese to go with the wine and get non-polarized sunglasses.

At least the F-22 is a lot better than the F-35. Our wonderful military procurement process. I think the F-35 is going to be the machine which kills manned fighters for good.

Yep... Maybe that is the plan.. The rise of the machines.. :) I agree the F22 program is much better. Was led by a few real men (many recruited off the YF23 project once that was murdered), not some committee of buttercups like the F35. Just saw on one of my RSS feeds, F35 purchase (not ongoing) cost is $105 million each for 1650 units for AF. More for other nations. F22 in those production numbers cost one third less, 25 times capability, 25% lower operations cost.

Ok, back to cars.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

The 5.0 dipstick is not a dipstick - it's a "dip cable" - and it navigates thru at least one S curve to get to its destination.

Makes it difficult to get a good, clear, solid reading.

But, it helps to follow the manual (p. 7-27) and check when hot after a short ("about 5 min.") cooling period.

I was brought up to check engines when dead cold - but all the new cars I've had recently follow the Hyundai procedure.

Not a fan of "dip cables" either, but at least the Genesis has clear markings that are easy to read for oil level. Not like the POS FoMoCo ones delivered with many of the EcoTec engines. I have one on a Mazda MX-5 from days when Mazda still was in slavery to Ford. It shows that you have oil. The level is your guess, because the markings are so badly done. At the top of the dislike list for older MX-5 Gen 3 owners.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I noticed that at highway speeds if the sunroof is closed but the cover is open to let light in that there is wind noise. If you shut the cover it pretty much goes away but still slightly annoying for an otherwise very quiet car. Anyone else notice this?

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I dont like that if I forget to close the sunshade after I turn off the car. I cant close it, I have to press the start button twice, so I can close it.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I'm pretty sure the sunroof glass isn't UV reflective. It's not marked as such, and I've gotten slightly burned while driving with the shade open and the glass shut. I may get a clear UV reflective tint so that I can let in light without the UV.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I installed the clear tint on my windshield and like it.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I don't like the way the rear climate control is controlled. I'd prefer if it could be either synced with the front climate control or disabled from the touchscreen without being overidded by the buttons. If I disable it from the touch screen, it turns back on if I accidentally hit one of the buttons (e.g. while reaching for something in the back seat or while cleaning the interior). This causes the rear climate control to be inadvertently fighting the front.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

whats up everyone? ok so...while waiting for my dealer to locate a car for me ive been doing a lot of reading on here...brought the new 15 5.0 home yesterday and so far my 2 biggest gripes are

1. I wish the steering wheel tilted down a little farther

2. would be nice if you could run the fog lights with just the parking lamps on....

other than that the car is fantastic! dealer said take it easy on it until 600 on the ODO

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

early impressions of leased base 3.8l AWD genesis....dislikes: fair amount of road noise on coarse pavement, voice commands are lacking for USB playback, needs capless fuel fill, throttle is a bit touchy, should have remote start on key fob, and engine is a bit noisy for a luxury car. overall, quite pleased with the car! :D

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Played around with the voice commands for a bit and my experience was less than stellar. It definitely did not understand what I was saying over half of the time I tried it.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

They really need to do something with the voice commands. I really only use "call whoever" and that needs some special high voiced very clear talk to get that right after several tries most of the time. I would say it,s a 50/50 shot getting it right the first time. My previous gen 1 was 95% accurate and my Ford F150 is 100% all the time.

HELLO HYUNDAI, FIX THIS CRAP. THIS IS NOT A LUXURY CAR EXPERIENCE.
