  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Recall/Free Tire Replacement???

I just called customer service. The lady said not all Genesi are eligible, but she looked mine up and said I wll get a letter by the end of May to replace them. My Genny is a V6. She said the exchange is optional and the letters were not all set at once so that tires will be available.
I am also on recall for the water-in-taillight fix. No letter was sent for this.

Had mine replaced today, and the differences in the ride between the Hankook and the Michelin's is dramatic. Much smoother and quieter.

Would you mind checking the speed rating on the tire or better yet, taking a picture of the tire information on the sidewall?

Smoother and quieter sounds good to me.

The Hankooks are nice tires, except for the bloody flat-spotting, which annoys my wife. The Genesis is very nicely tuned to minimize the vibration, but if you know what to notice, it is obvious that the Hankooks (mine anyway) are giving the shocks and springs their money's worth.

I am in no hurry. I am glad to hear a positive early report.

Thanks for sharing the info.

I'm glad that you like them, but, sorry - I just can't buy that it's dramatic. I've been running the Hankook's for almost a year (10K miles) and other than minor flat spotting in very cold weather that quickly works itself out, I find them great tires: incredibly quiet (virtually no tire noise) and smooth with excellent ride quality and great handling (I have yet to hear them squeal even in agressive cornering, let alone lose grip). Unless there were bad batches of Hankooks that Hyundai got, they are very highly rated tires on Tire Rack and I personally just don't experience what some are describing here.

Agreed Nick

Took the car in today for scheduled oil change, tail light recall and headlight alignment. I had emailed the service advisor before hand as I normally do since I stick to one person and it’s always worked for me. My Genesis and Sonata get excellent service. I had asked about the tires when he looked it up on the computer he said my car qualifies but its voluntary. I pondered it for a while thinking about the computer reprogramming for top speed and wanting to be sure that I didn’t lose the great ride and handling that I have now. In actuality I must say I have on rare occasion noticed the fault symptom but really to me it was a minor thing certainly not enough to offset the performance of the tire in general. In the end I decided to have them changed. I don’t really care about the top speed reduction because let’s face it neither I nor any other sane person would be doing 130 mph in a populated area let alone 150 mph. What does concern me is the act of reprogramming the control unit in general. I must admit to being a bit squeamish about that. The tires were ordered and I’ll be notified when they’re in. I’ve wrestled with this decision for a while like a lot us have because like I said I think the Hankooks are very good. Time will tell if it was the right decision.

It is recommended that V8 owners switch their tires from left to right. I have already rotated my tires on my V8: swap the LR with the RR and the LF with the RF.

That is about the only thing that makes any sense. I have had the same experience with mine.

Wow, I give my expierence having had the issues with the Hankooks, follow the recall by Hynduai Letter, and report that, yes the flat spotting and hard ride have been eliminated, that the ride now is smoother and quieter, and several people have responded that they don't believe it! I for one am thankfull to have had Hyundai offer to, and then follow through and correct MY issue. Believe it or not.

You shouldn’t be offended it hasn’t been directed at you it’s just people airing their views. What sets this forum apart for me is the diversity of opinions. A lot of times I don’t agree with these opinions but I accept their right to air them. This is the way it is and sometimes I’ve been offended also but I make it practice not to feed the fire so to speak and just go on. I think we all appreciate the notes on the subject whether we agree or not.

I have a 2015 Genesis 3.8 V6 sedan Htrack and I occasionally get what I describe as "harmonic flutter and vibration". When this occurs it vibrates for a while and is acutely felt in the drivers seat. Could this be related to the tire issue "flat spotting"?

Does it only happen when you first start off but then goes away after a few miles? If so, then yes it is related. If it happens say after 5 miles of driving then it could be another issue.

Very well put Ernie3647

I'm keeping my Hankooks! Drove for a while today especially listening for noise, vibration and tire squeal. Didn't get any!

I've never felt the "flat spotting" effects others have noticed and this may be due to living in central Florida so, for me, the Continentals would be a downgrade.

I had my Hankook tires replaced by the dealer about a 1000 miles ago with the Michelin Primacy MXM4 tires.

I have been experiencing an intermittent vibration since day one. I thought these new tires were going to be the magic pill, unfortunately, my issues with vibration continue.

I'm having the EXACT same experience as fbfatboy. For me, this has completely ruined the experience of what I had hoped was a fantastic automobile.

I cant put my finger on this, some days are better than others. Its definitely intermittent, and I cant isolate what the cause is. Road surface, drive train, suspension. I'm traveling on the same road surface, shifting into neutral while driving, in an attempt to isolate the problem. I'm starting to doubt the tires are the cause.

I'm going to a independent tire shop on Friday and have them check the alignment and recheck the balance of the tires.

Thanks for the update on your experience. It's interesting as, in their letter, Hyundai doesn't describe "symptoms" consistent with the cold weather flatspotting issue that some of us in more northern areas have experienced. Outside of that minor issue, I love the Hankooks - no vibrations, absolutely no road noise and great all around ride, traction and handling. I did not find them to be good on packed snow/ice so will get proper winter tires this fall. However, based on my experience and that of several others here, I'm puzzled by the issues that some seem to be having - not questioning the validity of their issues, but it's very odd that it doesn't seem to affect everyone's car? So what really is the root cause?

Should I be concerned about this issue on a new car purchase of a 3.8 RWD Ultimate?

The only time I ever had symptoms like you describe, once on a Volvo and once on a Mazda, I had at least one tire and / or wheel out-of-round. It sounds like you are on the right track by having an independent shop check it. It should be no problem for them to check "roundness".

You can even pull the tires yourself and do a crude check by rolling each on the driveway. The bad ones will look like drunken sailors.

After that, you are into the suspension. Good luck with getting a fix.
