2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I like how it went from AWD to engine problems. There is a reason luxury branded vehicles(benz, bmw) are rear wheel drive. it's not because it's cool or classy it makes the ride, handling, and weight balance better.
??? A little too much egg nog? I guess you've never heard of BMW xDrive and Mercedes Benz 4 Matic?

There is never such thing as too much egg nog! [Most] luxury, sports, and muscle cars are rear wheel drive. Have I heard of awd in luxury cars is not even an argument. I'm saying I wouldn't get awd from hyundai. you can make arguments all day justifying your purchase. If you lived in snow free area you wouldn't even think of adding all that unnecessary weight/money on your vehicle.

I can't quite sign up for that one. Audi made quite a statement back in the day for AWD on dry pavement & the handling & performance enhancements it brought with it. Pulling a car through a hard corner while also pushing it makes for a very nice combination & result of cornering speed.

My first AWD was a GMC Typhoon. Hardly a competitor in the REAL AWD market - especially by today's standards. But in a parking lot I could turn the wheel to lock and keep my foot mashed to the floor. The tires would scream and whine all day long, and it might even plow a bit - but it always kept going in a circle and the back end never broke loose.

Nobody is justifying their AWD purchase. Buy what works for you - just correcting your false generalizations so you don't mislead folks who are weighing the pros/cons of AWD vs RWD for their particular situation.

If you really understand it, you'd know that AWD is useful for more than just snowy roads. For the Genesis, a good tech page on AWD benefits is here:

http://brand.hyundai.com/en/challenge/for-technology/htrac.do

In fact, in many high performance cars, AWD is used as a method to get a crazy amount of power to the pavement that would just result in lighting up the rear tires in a RWD setup - ever hear of the Bugatti Veyron?

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

AWD is a personal choice, and while it may not be for all drivers, if you live in the snow belt, it's very nice to have.

HTRAC was one of the primary reasons that I decided to trade my '13 Azera in on the Genesis. The second day I had the car, we had about 10 inches of snow in the NW suburbs of Chicago. I was amazed at how good this car handled the adverse conditions. I have owned several AWD SUV's over the years, and this car absolutely blows them away.

I was able to drive into a parking lot with about 7" of snow at my brother's condo with no problem. When I got home, I had about 8-10" of snow in my driveway. My neighbor cleared the entrance to the driveway where the street plows had piled the snow up well over a foot. Once that was clear, I was able to drive up the incline and into the garage with no issue. I could never do that with my Azera, or my wife's Journey AWD for that matter.

The other nice thing is that the car handles well on dry pavement. All in all, the AWD system in this car is well suited for this area.

If I lived in Florida I probably would not bother, but I can remember a few time in Texas, and ever Arizona where I would have appreciated the sure footed nature of this car.

The GT-R would like to have a word with you re: AWD. And I'm not just referring to the current R35. The R32, R33, and R34 are all in line as well.

Thought you might enjoy this picture Howard. :D

Thanks. I have seen the photo before.:) Other people in entertainment were Mark II owners as well. Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor to name just a few.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

The annunciator symbols on the dashboard display and the symbols on the control stalk do not match for their function.

On my NA USA car, the symbols for headlights on the stalk shows as hi beams on the dashboard display while the headlights low beams show the symbol as parking lamps on the control stalk. I do not think this anything new, it seems familiar...

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I bought the AWD, because that was the only option. But, because of the specifics in my country and that Im traveling along Europe, from time to time Im going in the mountain during winter, and that we have good snowy winter :) makes my choice practical ;)

I had to check this out today, and sure enough, my symbols are the same.
I've been able to figure it out anyway, but it does seem sort of goofy.
I wonder if my Azera and Sonata were the same way and I never noticed.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Mostly picking nits here, but my dislikes in the 2 weeks I’ve had it are:

From my seat position, the button cluster on the left side of dash (under A/C vent) is completely hidden by the steering wheel.

The stereo/phone/cruise controls on the steering wheel were much easier to use on my 2010 Genesis (4.6).

Agree with others regarding the voice recognition (accuracy, too many steps, etc.) being better in previous gen.

Agree with others as to the orange DRLs, although to a lesser degree.

Auto rain sensing wiper sensitivity seems less accurate than my 2010 was. Even on the highest setting, it takes longer to kick in, as compared to my old one.

Omission of power/phone jack in the center console with a gap for the cord to poke through, like before. And speaking of which, I preferred the dual console setup in the first gen, where I could place pens, business cards, etc. and access them more quickly from the top tray.

A very minor peeve, but the doors on my 2010 were solid and closed completely with only a flick of the door handle. Closing the front doors on my 2015 with the same force leaves the door slightly ajar. No such issue with the rear doors, however. I thought I read that Genesis outside the US are available with soft door closers on the fronts, and wonder if that has something to do with it.

Not an apples to apples comparison, and it wasn’t unexpected, but the 14 speaker Lexicon system in this car doesn’t sound nearly as full/deep as the 17 speaker Lexicon did in my old Genesis.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I agree with this item - the voice recognition is very, very poor. I clearly state a name I want to call (ex: "Call Gary") and some of the results that come up are no where close to sounding like Gary. I tried to enter an address through voice command today and it wanted to send me to a tiny town a hundred miles away. Frustrating when you are trying to drive and keep your focus on the road, especially on the freeway when you don't have a chance to punch something into the navigation screen by hand like you can do at red lights and whatnot.

I either disagree, am indifferent to, or can't speak to (never having owned the G1) the remaining dislikes.

I'd like to hear what you enjoy about Gen on the "Likes" thread. Obviously it's easier to point out the few flaws than the many likes. I often find myself worrying too much about one or two things I don't like while driving instead of the many things that make it an awesome car for the money.

Also, does anyone know how to post a poll? I was curious before I bought my 3.8 if current owners would purchase the car again after having owned and driven it for a period of time. I've had mine for a couple weeks now and at this point in time I am more than happy with my purchase, although time will tell if I experience any of the mechanical or technological hiccups others have encountered. I'm keeping my fingers crossed while following the maintenance schedule.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I found an interesting anomaly with My HD Radio.
I have a 2015 3.8 AWD Signature Package with the AVN 4.5 system, and the 4.3" LCD Dash cluster display.

When listening to FM HD radio, the In dash LCD cluster display will show the HD radio info one number higher than the station displayed in the NAV/Radio screen.

For Example 105.9 HD1 shows correctly on the Radio display, but in the Dash cluster, it will show 105.9 HD2.

If I tune to 105.9 HD2, the Dash cluster shows 105.9 HD3. The in dash cluster never shows HD1.
This is true for all of the FM radio stations with HD that I have preset, ie. 93.1, 94.7, 97.1, 97.9, 104.3, etc... every iteration of HD1, shows as HD2, and every HD2, shows HD3, HD3 shows HD4. So always one higher than the correct HD channel.

I have attached the images showing what I am seeing.

This could be related to the Radio i.e. AVN vs. DIS, or perhaps the cluster lcd screen.
I have no idea if this is specific to my car, or my configuration.

I'd appreciate knowing if anyone else with Signature or Tech pkg. seeing this?

Post your package, and radio. Let me know what you see in the LCD cluster display, and if it matches the NAV/Radio display. Thanks!

I saw this posted a week or two, can't remember what thread but someone else pointed out the same thing so it's not unique to your Genesis. I have an Ultimate and mine does not do this.

Just checked - no such issue on my 2016 3.8 AWD Ultimate - Nav screen radio display and dash cluster show the same HD station - and both switch together when moving from HD1 to HD2, etc.,.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

It was my post. I appreciate the reply on the Ultimate, but I could use some feedback on folks with the AVN 4.5 system (Signature, Tech, and perhaps base)
I just edited my post to clarify that.

The previous posts were mine, but I never got any feedback from others with the same system. I figured the pix might help. Any replies from non-ultimate users would be most appreciated.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I have the ultimate nav system and whenever it encounters a toll area with separate lanes for EZ-Pass and cash it directs you to the cash lanes. It seems like there should be a setting in the nav to say that you have EZ Pass so it should prefer those lanes. The display shows somes lanes as "EZ Pass only" so it knows what they are.

This is a small nit but here in the land of tolls (NJ) it is a constant minor irritation. When my wife is driving she just follows the nav directions so we wind up sitting in the cash lanes waiting in line while I silently fume in the passenger seat (you have to pick your battles and this is not one of them :-) ).

I have a 2016 AWD Signature. After reading the above, I dialed in some HD stations and noticed the same disparity (between NAV and LCD cluster displays). Yes, there is no display of "1" on the cluster only "2" and "3".

It seems a software problem, but I view a trip to the dealership to solve it like one to the dentist - except the former is rarely completed in just one visit.
