If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. 2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

The current rear camera doesn't meet the field of view requirements for a rear-view mirror. They'd have to at least adjust the camera mount (if not replace it with a different design entirely), so it wouldn't be a no-cost option.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

It would only look like a DVD if you were leaving a drive in theater. I doubt if anyone would be silly enough to rule it illegal. In fact, the day is coming (not soon enough!) when cameras will replace all of the mirrors, especially the ones hanging out in the wind.

You've missed the point entirely. Sigh. Why do you think DVDs cannot be played on stock dashboard Nav screens while cars are in forward motion? It's not the type of video content, but rather the distraction factor. That why it's prohibited. Next you'll tell us you want to watch the baby monitor, or the doghouse, at home on your Nav screen.

Groan. How is that different from a live rear view mirror? I think you are stretching things a bit too far to make a point. Baby monitor? Doghouse? Moan. No, just the traffic behind me, EXACTLY like a rear view mirror, only better.

Let me get this straight. Because you "may" carry balloons in your back seat "someday" you NEED a full-time rearview camera in your Navscreen?

Honda has it for blind spot when you turn on the turn signal, having it show the rear would be a first but not completely far fetched. Naturally I would expect you to make more negative comments.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Ford is offering surround view on several models in drive or reverse. I am not sure if there is a max speed limitation or not.

No, I'm saying that the rear view mirrors, especially the outside ones, will be replaced with cameras and a display, probably integrated into the inside mirror. If rear windows keep shrinking the inside mirror will go too. I think that there are currently some old regulations in the way or it would be happening already. What manufacturer wouldn't like to get rid of those big ugly air dams hanging off the side of their otherwise aerodynamic cars?

For now, I just want to turn on the existing rear camera when the mirror is blocked. And use your imagination, there are other things besides balloons that will block your view.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I'm using my imagination now ..... what IF those loose/unleashed balloons would shift unexpected and blocked your front windshield??? :D

The chap was advocating "full-time" and full-view rear view on the dash screen. Try reading posts before replying.

Thank you for giving up any real argument.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

It is at the dealer. I am having to talk with the BBB and Hyundai's Consumer Affairs. They are telling me it is a known problem with no repair.

Your post does not indicate the problem. Can you post the problem?

I read what the "chap" said but I don't remember reading anything about doghouse or baby monitor till I came up on your comment. I need to clarify since you think my comment didn't make sense, when you turn on your turn signal in a honda accord the dash display switchs to a Video Camara mounted on the side mirror till the turn signal is turned off. Do I find his idea unnecessary?...yeah but I find the honda Camara just as useless and they have it implemented. Try again at not insulting anyone, I have faith in you.

I have faith that you will eventually read posts before commenting on them. You are crediting the chap with an idea that he did not, at first, postulate. Most folks understand why a full-time Nav screen LIVE video of ANYTHING is a distraction. Ya know, that's why DVDs can't be viewed in cars, not because the Feds don't like Burt Reynolds movies. Doh!

Not that I think it is a good idea, but how would a full time NAV screen display of the view behind the car really be any different or more distracting than the actual rear view mirror? There is a BIG difference between displaying a movie versus a rear view on that screen!

I think the idea behind a rear view mirror mounted where it is centers on focus. Your peripheral vision forward is much better looking up and ahead instead of focusing down. The rear view mirror is one of several views that need to be monitored visually and the Nav screen is usually lower on the dash and does not lend itself to forward motion driving and easy monitoring. Backing up is one thing, but cruising at 65 MPH and visually monitoring things is easier when they are on the same plane.

I don't disagree, but it's nothing like displaying a movie as was being suggested...

Same thing as a movie, really, if the full Nav screen is filled with moving vehicles, scenery and geography. Most folks would find it dizzying and distracting. Let the Feds decide. It's not in our pay grade anyway. By the way, anybody who can't drive without using the inside rear view mirror shouldn't be on the road anyway.
