  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Rattle

Check to see if the seal on the outside of the panoramic sunroof (the seal between the two panels of glass) has started to separate from the glass). My creak got progressively worse and someone mentioned to me to check that. Mine was separated. I took it to the dealer and showed them that (which obviously should not be like that) and they received authorization for a replacement of the full sunroof assembly. Took about three days for them to get the part and replace, but that was back in February. Still no creaks since the replacement. My creaking noise was really bad by the time I had them replace it (could hear the creaking even with the sun shade fully closed). I've read where people first tried to just replace the seal only, and that only lasted a day or two before it separated again.

Could you tell me what dealership you used, or part number, or something concrete I can tell my dealer to help them fix this? Please!!!

Could you give me the name of the dealer you used? I would like to point my dumbass dealer to a dealer who has fixed this? Thanks!!

Thanks! Now an odd request. Would you mind deleting this message and the other where you replied? Reason being my dealership wants to see the thread, and i kind of called them a dumbass. I guess i want to try and keep them on my side until i hopefully get it fixed. Didn't think this one through... Lol

Unfortunately I'm now in the same boat. I drove a few 2015 dealer demos (all ultimates) with less than 3k miles and no rattles.

I picked a 10,000 mile lease turn in and I have a rattle/creak right above my head when the pano roof is closed (not when it's vented). Also sounds like the front door seals make a similar noise when going over bumps/the car flexes.

Next oil change is in 4k miles, probably will just have them look at this then. It's a real shame, because the car is SO solid and quiet, this really detracts from that feeling.

ETA: I'm a December 2014 build date

So after reading this thread, I decided to mute the stereo and listen for the problem. I can definitely hear the squeaks in the roof when I go over road imperfections.

Do I really need to do something about this if it isn't off putting to me? Is this a problem that will result in leaking down the road? I always listen to the radio at a volume that easily overcomes these squeaks (I think anything over 5 will just about do it for me).

Or will this problem get worse? And what is the consensus on how to get the dealer to acknowledge the problem? Is there a TSB out on this? Or do we point them to this thread?

I would assume (and hope) that if it's a dry/misaligned seal it will not worsen once it arises. But if these are drying/aging this quickly I'm worried whatever seals they used will age prematurely, never a good thing with the pano roof, or door/trunk/hood seals for that matter. I remember my dad's old S6 had a trunk seal that went bad after only 20,000 miles or so, and the dealer remarked that Audi had a bad batch of seals, something about the lack of an additive that keeps the rubber from becoming brittle. Dealer tried to tell us it was largely due to the catted 3.5" downpipes/exhaust that were installed...nah.

I don't think there is a TSB, but I hope there is soon. And that it calls for the complete swapping of the old seals for new ones.

I did call another local dealer, they're familiar with the issue and said they know right where to put the lube to address it.

I now have a similar noise from the front door seals when going over bumps...ugrh

Most folks who are reporting a fix had the entire roof assembly replaced.

Yeah I'm trying to figure out why, maybe because that's easier with the amount of seals and all that?

I had the creaking sound on my 2015 Genesis. After replacing the sunroof due to a bad seal, I still had the creaking sound. After the second visit they found that the sunroof track nut was not fully installed. After tightening all sunroof assembly nuts the creaking sound is no longer present. I hope this information helps.

I am so sorry to post something on this thread when Im not talking about the sunroof but I can't figure out how to start a thread can someone tell me?

So dropped the car off at the dealer for service (not the dealer I bought it from) for work on the sunroof and door seals, no problem they'll get to it today. Hopefully a lube/retighten but he already said a full replacement is a possibility.

Here's where Hyundai really starts drop the ball...I call the 'customer care' line and ask why (since I bought a CPO car) this wasn't caught/rectified before the vehicle was offered for sale. The rep on the phone explains to me that sometimes "SALESPEOPLE" perform the 150-point inspection, based on how busy the dealer is and if an inspection tech is available. REALLY?! Even though on the webpage (http://www.hyundaicertified.com/Default.aspx) it clearly states the inspection is done by a tech.

Guy on the phone also argued that they may not listen for noises while driving. Even though this noise happened this morning when the guy at the dealership rolled at 1mph from the service drive into the parking lot. The rep then argued that noise would be a cosmetic issue. Really? This couldn't be indicative of a future problem/leak? He didn't have a response to that.

So finally I have 'customer care' looking into what the exact CPO process was at the dealer, I sure didn't pay $500 to have some sales guy walk around the car and check some boxes on a piece of paper. I know for a fact they knew about the issue, the person that sold me the car had this response
-"well, it is a big piece of glass" (OK, not a response, more of an observation I guess)
and the manager I finalized the deal with had this response
-"yeah it really isn't an issue if you keep the shade closed and the music up" (perfect! that's exactly why I want a car with pano roof...to close the shade all the time)

THIS is where Hyundai will lose customers. I tell everyone here at our company that anyone can be nice during the sale, it's how you treat your customers AFTER you have their business that builds trust, loyalty, etc. Hyundai (Genesis now I guess) needs to figure this out if they're going to compete with the big boys.

Update-picked it up after it was inspected and lubed. It was quiet until i vented the roof and closed it back up. Back to rattling.

Service manager is supposed to call me asap. I told them I need a rental or loaner, I've been ubering and begging rides there and back. No more

Welcome to the bs.I bought mine March 21, 3 months ago. I think I have driven it for 3 or 4 weeks total. This has been the biggest nightmare. They are replacing the sunroof on mine, and I'm told this is supposed to fix one of the sounds, but may not fix the other. ... I too had the, well the whole roof is glass. So f u c king what. So that means I should know better, that this is an inherent noise in the car. This is literally what the hyundai rep told me. I have all of the phone calls recorded. It is such a joke. The guy wouldn't answer my questions, he was like a politician. I even said that, and asked him to answer a question, and he couldn't do it. I really wish this could go viral and really get some steam

It's infuriating. They're luckily they haven't gotten an influx of customers from other brands, it's been two years and they're STILL not ready to provide anywhere close to the same level of service.

Drove with a tech today, obviously didn't take long for him to hear what was going on. Leaving the car with them next week while I'm on vaca, hopefully they can sort it out. I actually saw some visual evidence of the problem (maybe). See how the seal separates as it moves toward the center of the car? That can't be good

A lot of the other rattling is coming from the doors, hopefully busted seals like this are the culprit

Here to report that I got the sunroof assembly replaced, and it fixed the awful creaking from the back of the car. However, there is still a slight noise coming from the roof that is present on a slope. It's not near as bad as the creaking, and I think I will just accept it. I like everything else about the car too much. If anyone needs any help feel free to message me or just reply on here. This was the worst new car buying experience ever. I am told that I will probably get at least a few months worth of payments reimbursed to me because of the hassle.

That's probably a full roof replacement eh?

I noticed while washing my car that the "plastic" strips that run from front to back on the roof next to the sun roof have a lot of play in them and cause a creaking sound. When the sun roof assembly is replaced, do they replace these strips as well? Just push on them and you can hear the creaking.

Hyundai is not the one giving you problems when it comes time to the roof repair. The dealer is. Report the dealer to HMA. Hyundai has been authorizing replacement roofs left and right. Mine was replaced once under the previous lessor and once under me and several other people on this forum & in this thread.

The seals coming apart on the roof and splitting on the doors are indicative of harsh chemicals and detergents being used at the car wash - ie: drive-through/gas station and do-it-yourself wash bays. Wash it at home. In the shade. Use Dawn.
