  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Alternatives to G70?

That interior doesn't do anything for me. The giant monitor stretched in front? IMO, we'll look back at that in 5? 10? years and laugh at how bad it is.

When it comes to tech in cars, Hyundai/Kia/Genesis have a perfect blend. An excellent, albeit bland, infotainment that is well-tested and should age well (AA/Carplay is all I need) plus analog gauges. I'd say my "biggest" criticism I have is linking climate numbers to the screen and not having a separate, and simple screen for the dual climate like I've seen in the newer Sonatas.

I disagree about the screens. All of the major luxury auto manufacturers are going to full digital dash’s. Analog gauges are on the way out and will be non-existent in 5 years, imo. The flexibility the digital dash gives you lets you easily setup for street and auto-cross driving scenarios. The entire MB lineup has gone to this dash configuration in the last 3 years with the holdouts being the CLA and G Class. Now those will have it too along with the entry level A Class.

That's where everything is heading, so I don't think we'll look back and laugh. If you look at where the high end is going, you can see where the industry as a whole will eventually end up going. If anything we'll look back and see this was the beginning of the end of analog gauges. Even the G70 has a digital dash now in Korea and in 3D, as well.

What does everyone think of the new MB CLA? Interior is to die for and I like the look of the new longer CLA. AMG versions will come in over 400hp.
I love the interior. I also love MBUX. An AMG version might be able to snatch me away from the 2020 G70. Just don't know exactly when that AMG will be released. I know for sure I want a vehicle with MBUX though. So if I end up with the G70, then my 2018 GMC Terrain will be replaced by the new Mercedes GLE. Guess we'll see how the timing works out.

I'm surprised by the support for the digital dash. When has a computer become faster (or even maintained performance) with age? Mmw, the digital dash will be painfully sluggish in several years. And imagine all that when booting up in the cold. Personal opinion, of course.

As long as analog gauges are cheap, screens won't take over gauges entirely. They may become more common in the premium space, especially with electrification needing a different display of information and cameras being used during driving (like the ones in place of mirrors). But gauges won't look ancient.

Gauges in the G70 are really nice IMO. The 2 analog once have a nice texture on the circumference...and the screen between them is really good quality with TONS of info. Add the HUD to the mix...and it's all you need.

I have the digital dash in my A4. Honestly, its a little gimmicky. Since the day I brought it home, I have never changed anything in the screen. Only time Ive done stuff is when showing it to someone and what it can do. Theres really nothing sluggish about it and right now in 11 degree weather theres no delays. I havent had any issues with the screen at all. I remember when the Lexus LFA came out and they were one of the first with a full digital screen. They said they had to do that because an analog tach couldnt keep up with how fast the car revved. Now that is a bada$$ reason.

On a side note, all the C4(?) corvettes had digital guages. The only thing that went wrong with them is pixels died. Otherwise, Ive never heard about them being sluggish or cold booting issues.

I'm in the same boat, the texture under the speed/tach numbers is a ver nice touch, the center screen looks amazing with tons of data info and the HUD is my new favorite add-on, this shit is f*ing awesome.

Booting in the cold shouldn't make any difference these days. Also, computers are constantly asked to do more things and are updated and such. This will be doing the same thing over and over with very few updates so it should still run decently years down the road. I think the biggest problem would be if the screen went out. I don't plan on ever keeping a vehicle long enough for that to happen though.

I think they're nice too, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't prefer the digital. They have it where the digital can look just like the current analog ones. I wouldn't say it's necessarily a deal breaker, but I just prefer digital. I'm like that about everything though. I'll take an ebook over a regular book any day of the week. I could see only the highest trims having digital in the future and the other trims having analog.

I have. Better...but still awful. And...I’m on the G70 board where I belong. You?

I’m in the alternatives to G70 board where you discuss other vehicles.

It’s ok, I guess opinions change sometimes. I’m still happy for you.
G70 Available locations...

I have to agree with this one, we are in the correct thread to be discussing any alternative. Honestly, I really really want a Camaro SS 1LE, and its in the same price range, but unfortunately I need a year round NorthEast commuter car, and thus the G70 is what Im looking at.

Appreciated. I was near dead set on a G70 but because of the lack of availability and unwillingness to haggle on the part of dealers I opened myself up to a large range of alternate vehicles. I tried the S4, the Q50 Red Sport and on a whim tried the Corvette. Fell in love with it and got it at a killer price basically on par with a G70. It had performance and (subjectively) I felt the interior was close to the interior of the G70. Not AS nice but not in such a huge gap as someone makes it out to be.

Look, there are others out there open to a wide range of vehicles. Some look at the performance aspect of the G70 as the main selling point. If it’s performace you want I only offered a link to something that can outperform it at a similar price. If you aren’t interested fine. But if I can find one person to say “Wow that’s a great deal”, which it is, I’m happy to help and offer an alternative.
