If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Owners: What vehicle did your Genesis replace?

I just saw this thread while doing a search for something unrelated. Anyway, my 2009 3.8 Tech package replaces a 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer edition with 103,000 miles. I couldn't be happier right now.

Hi everyone,

My 2009 Genesis 3.8L V6 4 door sedan with the premium package replaces my 2006 Sonata GL V6 4 door sedan.

Over the years, I have had two other Hyundai vehicles as a second car. A 1985 4 door Pony hatchback and a 1987 Excel 4 door hatchback.

I love the Genesis but I must say that I only drove about 1000 kilometres with it up to this point in time.

I live in Canada and I am sure that you are aware that the price of a car is much greater here than it is for a similar car in the USA.

Take care,

Hi Monandy!

I love the pic in your signature....the red looks great! The Genesis is quite a step up from your prior Hyundai vehicles. I hope it treats you well.

Got rid of a 2001 Jaguar XJ8L. Platinum exterior, black leather interior. The 4.6 Genesis I picked up is titanium gray with black interior, with the tech package.

I replacing an 05 Honda Accord EX-L V6 6MT NAVI Coupe... I am in the middle of trying to sell it.

In 06' when I bought the Accord, I fell in love with the voice activated climate control/radio/ nav.... I wish my Dad were still alive...he would have been amazed. I think the Honda navigation is a ton easier to use than the Genesis, but I will eventually get used to it. I felt like technology wise I had it all back in 06'...

Now in 09', the genesis with tech package really has a lot of great features. I like having lots of toys to play with while driving.....as safely as possible.

Bob

I replaced a 2006 Azera Limited.

My Genesis 4.6 gets about 1 mpg less in mixed mileage around home, but gets better mileage than the Azera on the highway. My Azera did well around town, but, for some reason, trip mileage was not much better than around town.

With just over 2000 miles on the Genesis, I averaged 26.5 on a non-freeway trip of 300 miles through the Texas Hill Country this week with little traffic. Mileage actually seems to increase at 70 mph.

Where the Azera steering used to be a pain on uneven surfaces and tried to ollow irregularities, the Genesis tracks much better.

I've never owned a Hyundai. My Genesis replaced a beloved 2000 Chrysler LHS with only 87,000 miles on it. Never any problems. It's still in the family since my daughter needed a vehicle for school. I saw the Genesis at a car show in Virginia Beach last year, and was impressed with the look, the package, comfortable seats, and price. Going from the LHS to the Genesis was like I had been in a coma for a decade and discovered a new world of driving. Love it!

I just replaced my 2000 Honda Accord V6. It was the top of the line at the time, and I got 176K out of it. If I can do so well with my new Genesis, I'll be a Happy Camper!

Our 2009 Genesis sedan replaces a 2000 Pontiac Montana minivan with ~190k miles. That van drove like a champ... we really feel like we got a lot out of it.

We love the upgrade to the Genesis. The downgrade in storage space takes some getting used to. I guess this isn't necessarily a compliment to the Genesis' ride, but we feel like the van's ride was similar to our new car's. This could be why we aren't as disappointed in the ride as some others - we're not accustomed to the Lexus luxury lope. ;)

Genesis was my first Hyundai thanks to my man Madd Moe. I am a Nissan family, own 2002 Altima, 2004 Maxima, company car 2009 Altima and I was going to buy a 2010 Maxima. love front wheel drive, but I am taking a chance, still scare about my Genesis, but the looks I get is worth it.

I'm replacing a Dodge Caliber SRT. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was a piece of shit, but it definitely did not have me excited to drive it like my new Genesis does. This is my first Hyundai.

I too missed some of the luxury of my previous car (an Oldsmobile Intrigue, I know, it's an old man car, but it was a nice smooth, quiet ride) and have been salivating over the coupe since it was released earlier this year. I finally paid down my lease to a point where the Hyundai dealership would take it over, so I went and got my Genesis coupe last Thursday. I've put 2 tanks of gas in it since then, I've been driving it everywhere.

Our first 2009 Genesis 4.6 replaced a 2006 Infiniti M35 last November, and our second Genesis 4.6 (2010)replaced a 2006 Acura RL just last week.

Wait, you own two Genesis sedans now?

Yes, we have two of the same car. Normally, the “newness” wears off on me after a year or so, but having put just over 22k miles on the first one in a little over ten months, and having zero problems, a second Genesis was the only answer. I test drove the 2010 Buick Lacrosse: nice interior, a little claustrophobic, more road/tire noise, and, of course, less powerful (to be expected). I could not find anything that came close to the quiet ride, great interior space, handling and good fuel economy in anything else.

That's nice. I can't complain either, my Genesis has been great all around as well. Its a great car for road trips as well as the daily commute. For me it came down to an Infiniti M or a Genesis, and in the end, I found the Hyundai warranty and the quality of the car couldn't be matched.

We're replacing a 2000 VW Cabrio with 39000 miles. Fun car, but limited room and questionable build quality. The Genesis should be great on trips and will handle our golf clubs. The Genisis is a 2010 Cabernet 3.8 with permium, premium nav and wheel/trunk/steering wheel rebadge.

I replaced a 2001 Maxima GLE (132 K miles), so it was a definite step up for me.

I was very impressed with the styling of the 2010 Lacrosse. Test drove one and came away with the same impression...very claustrophobic...especially in the back seat. The sloping hoodline, high hem line, large C pillars and wrap around roof, leave only a narrow window slot. In the back seat, my head was pressed against the ceiling and my eyes were above the window line (I'm 6 foot tall.) From the driver seat, the Lacrosse reminded me of driving a low slung sports car...like a Ferrari...and not in a good way. The rear window looked like one of those portals above a midengined car. It really needed the optional back up camera.

We are coming from a Volvo XC70. Almost bought a S80 replacement (would've been our 4th Volvo.) There was $5000 of incentive on the 2010 S80's...which put it in the same ballpark...around $35K. However, for that price, the Genesis was much better appointed...more luxurious feeling, and had a much better passenger accommodations. With the driver seat adjusted comfortably, I could not get my knees to fit in the passenger seat, with the Genesis, there was plenty of room. The Genesis, also rode more quietly than the S80, however the S80 has a better "balanced" ride...comfort and handling...while the Genesis is a bit more jarring and nervous. The base Genesis also had 25% more horsepower than the base Volvo. What finally sealed the deal was the end of year deal on the 2009 Genesis. We got the 18" wheeled premium package for just over $30K.

My Genesis replaced a 2008 VW Eos, which was developing some weird problems. I had a Hyundai Excel in the 80's when they first came out- it was my first new car.

I replaced a 2000 Toyota Avalon (loaded) with a loaded 3.8 Genesis. I really set out to buy another Avalon - after 10 years and 150,000 miles of hassle-free driving it would have been crazy not to stick with it.

And, the top of the line, fully loaded 2010 Avalon priced out a few thousand less than the Genesis.

And, I loved the Avalon on the road, and in the city.

So, why did I buy the Genesis, after looking at the Avalon, Lexus 350 and Buick?

The Genesis had so many things "right", and just felt comfortable from the get go.... The Lexus 350 was too small (but very plush). The Buick was pretty and quiet, but had lot's of small things (like poor visibility) that I could not live with... The Avalon was great, but their Consumer reports ratings had dropped down to average, and that wasn't OK... The Genesis - it just felt right. Luxury (but not the most luxurious of the lot), comfortable (2nd only to the Lexus), great on the road (as good or better than the others).

And I felt great behind the wheel.
