  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

3.3T Intake comparisons

How much of a difference is this going to even make if the intake end of it is stock size?

A good question. All would be guesses until someone tests them! They look pretty cool, imo.

They seem reasonably priced but the installation, to me, looks like a pain in the ass just to test them out. I DM'd a guy who installed them on his Stinger but haven't heard back. I emailed the company late last night and the president of the company emailed me back right away. Impressive since it was a Saturday night and it was almost 10pm est where they are located in Florida. Sent me the installation file (attached) but don't have any sound clips or dyno. So I don't know.

It's definitely more involved, since not only do you have to remove the bumper, but also the radiator cowl with active flaps. The Stinger doesn't have the active aero like our cars do, and Dan has a cool workaround to avoid any errors from removing the active flaps.

I've been planning on installing the Velossa Tech snorkels for a while now, and I was emailing Dan extensively during the design phase (not to say that I had any constructive input for the design - because I didn't!).

The snorkels will most certainly improve air flow to the filters over the factory snorkels. But, such a restriction will mostly be removed by installing any aftermarket intake. Even so, the new snorkels will funnel cooler, outside engine bay air in all conditions. Also, when driving fast enough, air pressure at the turbo inlets should actually increase (with the factory intake).

Logically, it makes sense to upgrade with Velossa Tech. Objectively, on the other hand, it remains to be seen what gains, if any, will be had. Personally, I think there will be gains, but only in certain environments/situations. These may not be worth it for some, but for me it is.

Dan seems like a good guy. I agree with your assessment. I'm so not comfortable doing all that it takes to do that install. I'm always interested in doing things myself but not on a $53k car with 2k miles on it. Which means I'd need to find a pro to do it and the cost then might not be worth it without knowing the results. Not sure what to do now.

Totally understandable. You can get MUCH bigger gains from a piggyback system like JB4, or even aftermarket intakes and exhausts. The VT snorkels, I think, are one of those small, last bit things that could possibly give you a tiny edge.

With something like this, I'm more curious about the sound because even if the gains are negligible but it sounds great then it might be worth it. However, if it sounds goofy, that's a lot of work, time and money to remove them just to get back to "normal". When might you get them for your car?

^Will place my order this week. Though, I'm also in the process of getting an intake, and primary and secondary downpipes. So it might be a bit longer after I receive them before I install.

It's pretty awesome that they give you so many color options for that snorkel. Looking forward to seeing your follow up (and maybe an install video) on it Todd!

The G70 is my first turbo owned car so maybe it's just my sound preference but I prefer the low growl than the whooshing sound of the turbos. Any advice on a brand of CAI that growls instead of whooshes?

If you don't like turbo noises, then I recommend keeping the factory intake and instead invest in your exhaust system. Primary downpipes, midpipes, and cat-back all make a significant difference in growl.

Good to know. I like the sound of the Ark Grip Exhaust was hoping not to have to shell out another 1900 plus installation . Thought about a Pedal Tuner but stock aggressive setting sounds better than any aftermarket pedal tuner I've found. If I do painfully open my wallet again (and be prepared to sleep on the couch for a while) for the exhaust, I'd probably get the sound I'm looking for and increased performance but the downside is that Ark doesn't make a variable exhaust so If lose the ability to lesson the sound which could be nice for some of my long six hour drives.

It's not cheap but I have the Kunstwerk racing evc and it's worth the money love the sound and option to make it quieter.

I know this is blasphemy (and I personally avoid it), but the synthetic engine sound could bridge the gap for you. It's $Free.99 and makes some rather nice noises. Of course, the outside of the car will still sound the same, but you'll be listening to a Ferrari-like soundtrack inside the car on "enhanced"

I completely agree with you about the blasphemy part and I did consider it for about ten minutes when drunk web searching one night and quickly thought, "WTH am I thinking" and ruled it out. I'll leave that to the wannabe soccer dads driving their minivans. As of "today" I'm thinking that my wish list is: AEM CAI's, Ark Performance GRiP Exhaust, Vellosatech Big Mouth Snorkel, Lap3 v2 tuner. But open minded and still looking and listening.

Do you have a sound clip posted anywhere with the valves open, and closed? Can a person open the EVC at intervals - or is it all or nothing?

Looks like in this video it shows the driver changing the sound on the fly but it also looks like he has midpipes which would make it sound different than if it was just stock, right?

I saw and listened to your video from the stinger owners forum. It's the one with Cat Delete. I have to have a Catback system. Do you by any chance have a sound clip or can find one that I can't of your video but with a Catback instead of the Cat delete? Aslo, which exhaust do you have on your G70, the SR or the Pro-X ?
