  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Navigation system software update

"Customer states navigation system needs to be updated (Matt has update disc) Navigation system not updated to streets update navigation system per TSB 09-01-038-1 90B059R1, 1.5"

Do you have any POC information for "Matt" at the St. Louis Hyundai dealer? At least I could have my guy call there to get the skinny on this situation. I'm still getting blank stares concerning map updates. That TSB# you referenced does not jive with any TSB's that Hyundai has listed on www.hmaservice.com (the numbering format is completely different), but your Navi database definitely says 03.00.00 2009.08.25.14.

All I can tell you is that was what was written on my service ticket when I brought the car in... Matt is probably the parts manager, but my "service advisor" for this visit was actually Mike Odle, so if you were to call and ask for him, I would imagine he'd be able to remember the ticket itself, which by the way was invoice #HYCS32039 and also had Job #51HYZ associated with the line item for the update.

That's about as much information as I think I can provide, but should get your guy to the right person in reference to my previous service visit.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks a bunch. I'll see if my service guy can figure out how to get the same disks you did when you had your NAV updated. Thanks also for all the reference info above.

"Yes, Virginia....there is a NAV update for the Genny."

I just got off the phone with Matt Fluchel at Dave Mungenast Hyundai in St. Louis. He's the Service Manager at the dealership, not the parts guy.

He did indeed do a NAV update this month on smhirsch's Genny 4.6L w/tech package, and he's got the 3-CD set to do it (matter of fact he's got 2 sets of the CD's). He said the CD's do not have a part number on them, but he's going to check with his regional rep on Monday to see if he can get one. He couldn't understand why other Service Mangers couldn't track this down.

The update CD's only work on Genny's with the tech package (i.e., joystick control on the center consol). It also does take about 3 hours for the update. He said the first time he did it on smhirsh's Genny, the first 2 CD's worked fine, but the third one failed, and he had to start over (so it was actually about a 6 hour event).

Matt said he' e-mail back what he finds out to me next week. I'll keep you posted on what I learn. Keep you fingers crossed!!

Folks,

Matt Fluchel just sent me the TSB that applied to smhirsch's Genny.

The TSB# is 09-01-038-1 which, oddly, I can't find anywhere on the www.hmaservice.com website. The 17-page PDF was too big to post, so I cut it up into 3 sections.

We all may be out of luck. The TSB says, "IMPORTANT: THIS UPDATE IS FOR DEALER STOCK VEHICLES ONLY".

APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
MODEL: 2010 Genesis (Sedan) w/ DIS Navigation System
VEHICLE PRODUCTION RANGE: From July 17, 2009 to November 18, 2009
VIN RANGE: From KMHGC4DF0AU066081 to KMHGC4DF6AU083905.

I'm betting that if you're not in this VIN range, your dealer won't do the update. That means the rest of us are probably stuck buying the update from www.mapnsoft.com for $219 when (and if) they ever release it.

Sorry to get your hopes up. :(

Thanks at least mine is in that range - 071351 - took delivery 1/19/2010.

Many thank for the info.

It also proves that the Genesis does require a security code when updating the DIS'.

Hi Guys;
Thanks to all who are sharing info here
I am really confused-does the map update really exist??
1. Is TSB# is 09-01-038-1 really the long awaited update? If so, why does it only apply to 2010 models?
2. Why are most dealers not aware of it?
3. Can anyone confirm the map info is really updated-now shows streets not previously shown?
4. Does map software function any differently- i.e, enter city before street, etc?
5. Is the Tech package the same in both the 2009 and 2010 models?

Here is my car info:
HyundaiBH: 16.185__08465A30DV

HDD Version: NA_3.0.0.01 08313A

Navibox SW: 16 10 81 08.10.24

Navi database: 02.03.03 2008/04/26/08

Latest info from M&Soft is map update "sometime in mid- March".

I cannot believe that Hyundai allows this nonsense to continue without issuing a statement.
1. Hyundai customer service says to call M&Soft
2. M&Soft says: (depending on who you speak to)
a. Update is ready but waiting for "Corporate" to release
b. Update is ready but waiting for Hyundai to authorize
c. Call back in 3 or 4 weeks
d. Update is ready but Hyundai has not paid licensing fees.
e. Call Hyundai
f. It's all George Bush's fault

You would think that they would learn a lesson about communicating with customers from Toyota......

It appears that the TSB is to update 2010 models still on the lot to the new maps. If you have previously purchased a 2010, my guess is that you probably could talk your service manager into giving it to you. See post #127 above. Everyone else will have to pay for it and M&S will probably be the mechanism for the updates.

Given that there are not many people who have reported they have the new maps and they're all 2010 owners, it's not likely that anyone would know whether there's any difference. If you know of a specific address for someone to check, I'm sure they will oblige.

From a GPS standpoint, the system in the Technology packages are identical between model years.

Seems SOP, Get em sold! Then  ?????

Before lunch, I printed out the TSB and went to my dealer. I told the service manager that in more than one occasion, I've seen the GPS on this car starts drifting (true statement) and that I read on the Internet that this particular TSB was supposed to solve the "drifting" problem on my 2010 Genesis Tech. They are doing the SW upgrade right now.

...on my 2010 Genesis Tech. They are doing the SW upgrade right now.

Is your 2010 Genny within the VIN/date of manufacture range noted in post#127 above? If so, that probably leaves those of us with older cars still out in the cold. A demonstrable drifting NAV should be a warranty item anyways.

I see no reason why that update can't be used on the earlier 2009 Genesis Tech's, although I'm sure we will have to pay for it.

Paying for it on 2009 Tech's would be normal. Dealer techs can't work for nothing, plus with the DVD systems I had in the past, I had to pay for the disc. In the case of the Genesis Tech Hard Drive units, the dealer keeps the disc, but we pay for the two to three hour service to update our hard drives.

why are these updates not covered by your full vehicle warranty? why are you all willing to pay hundreds of dollars for them?

They aren't because they don't involve material defects or workmanship. There's also an argument that maps are more like a wear item--expected to become less useful over time (you wouldn't expect a road atlas manufacturer to provide new maps free of charge every year). The source of these maps (NAVTEQ) charges everyone for maps, and it's not an insignificant charge for a database that covers most streets in the country.

And then there's the facts that everyone charges about that much for update discs and they have a captive audience that has no choice but to either buy the updates or do without updated maps. :(

Just got back from a routine service @ 7500 miles on my 2010.....after a long discussion with my service writer He advised me that a Map update ( I must pay for) is due any day and He said I had to buy it myself from M & Soft....he said its a 1 disc update and really quick to do. The other update is for some of the 2009s and its a total wipe and reinstall (takes 3 hours) Can't see why they would charge if it corrects a program problem....Have no issue paying for just map updates like I used to buy for my Garmin

If it is a 1 disc update, you have the DVD "Touch Screen" Navi unit. This will take you about two minutes to update. (pop out the old disc and insert the new disc and it takes a minute to update). Yes, you will probably have to pay for the disc. My last car had this system. The new disc cost me $159.00 and it was so very easy to update.

The cars with the "Tech Package" use the Hard Drive Navi system, and they take the three disc update that takes 3 hours. This is NOT the touch screen system.

If I were buying a 2010, I would go with the standard 4.6, NOT the Tech Pkg, even though I would also be giving up other things in the Tech Pkg, (Electric Parking Brake, Swivel Headlights, Adaptive Cruise Control, Gizmo to keep the car from rolling while at a stop light - these are things I can live without).
