  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Dash cam?

Just connect at mirror… feasible?? Simple..

Yes, but does not allow for parking mode. If all you want is active camera when car is on, this is a good option.

Can i also run my radar detector with this setup??

You can, but if you want to do both, you will need to make sure there is enough current capacity to cover the radar detector, camera and the mirror. You would need to check the fuse capacity for the mirror and then see what the other items draw.

I would probably run one of them from the fuse block (like maybe the camera).

Anybody buy the Dongar mirror adapter cable in Canada? It seems pretty steep to get a cable for $83 (Amazon.ca price with shipping and taxes).

Yes I just order one a few days ago. Just waiting for it to be delivered which should be sometime after Christmas. It's actually better buying it directly from Dongar because it's on sale right now.
All Cdn dollars but as you can see the shipping was 60% of the cost of the item. It's the same address that's used for comparison for both shipping as well and even so it is still overall cheaper than using my Amazon account to place the order.

So that is $54 USD? $73 CAD?

Thanks!

Thanks - ordered!

I was originally thinking the Garmin Mini 2 but people keep suggesting 1080p isn't high-res enough to read license plates so now I'm considering this one:

Sounds like we're living the same life. That's exactly where I'm at with it 🤣

I was looking at the 4K camera's however after watching some video reviews there wasnt much difference in the actual quality and the ability to read license plates....

I still want one though, especially if I get my GV70

Been watching all those videos and they can be informative just as much as leaving you second guessing because of so much info. This is where I go back to being disappointed in Genesis for not incorporating the dash cam into the system here in North America.

Here's the wiring. You need the white wire (ignition-pin 6) and the black wire (ground - pin 8). The rearview mirror graphic is not the GV70 but it works as I did an electrical test with a multimeter to confirm the voltages. Now, I have not looked into installing a cam so not sure what it needs, but I would guess it would need the same voltage as an RD.
I just installed my Uniden R3 with Mirror tap on my 2023 GV70 2.5T and used the same Pin 6/8 for Ignition/Ground. For me the wire for ground was black and the ignition was a greyish wire.

This is tap that I bought on Amazon. Only the smallest of the pin sizes would fit though. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082V1245P/

Anybody figure out how to address issues with the auto on/off turning off the dashcam with the Dongar mirror adapter? I was going to go with the Vantrue E1 dashcam - just wondering if the auto on/off is going to give me trouble? I don't want to be running wires down the pillar, etc...

Sorry, I never really got anywhere with it and have not checked to see if it was a power cutoff or a voltage drop my dash cam is just sensitive to. I haven't got another dash cam to test with either. I've just started disabling the auto stop/start every time I start the car for now.

I ran mine to the drivers side fuse box. For headliner, just tucked it in, then down the pillar. It was really easy, except for the top clip of the A pillar trim..took a bit of effort but once I figured it out, not that bad. In fact, not sure if it was in this thread, but somewhere I saw pics or a vid of how to release the clip that really helped.

I have the Viofo duo with separate front and rear cams, and bought their wiring kit for $30 that taps into constant 12v for parking mode recording (when car is off), and a 2nd for ACC for reg camera operation when car is on. Nice thing is, it has a battery voltage control in the harness, with 3 or 4 voltage settings for the car battery that if it senses car battery going below that user chosen voltage, it will stop sending power to the camera in parking mode, thus mitigating battery drain. If you don't have this in the Dongar, I would be careful about using any sort of parking mode when car is off for fear of draining battery. That said, I don't know the Dongar adapter.

Another coincidental bonus....our fuse boxes in driver side dash have two spares...one 12v and one ACC! Couple of wire fuse taps and was good to go.
