  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 2.5 rear end noise

Already on my 3rd and it’s beginning to do it again. Got about a month out of this one. I’m about done with Genesis at this point. It’s a shame because I love everything else about the car.

I got mine back it seems ok
waiting on break in period
dealer messed up my ceramic coating

It seems the new differential is fine lets see how long it lasts

I have mine scheduled to replace end of May. This will be second replacement…

I had the noise almost immediately and got a replacement at about 4,700 KM. I'm at 14,000 KM now and there have been no further issues. I asked the service manager about the part they used to replace the original and asked if they just keep putting the same part in and hoping for better results. She told me that the newest parts actually have a different part number than the originals, so she thinks they improved it - hopefully that will be the case for all of us.

i heard it was that there wasn't enough oil in them causing grinding and other issues

That has been the case for some people who had replacements come in without enough oil and inexperienced mechanics who just installed them and didn't check, but I think that's fairly rare. If it was that simple, they could issue a technical bulletin to make sure they topped up the fluid on all vehicles before they were delivered to the buyers. I think it's more complicated than that.

Original part Genesis used simply has high rate of failure, there is no other explanation for it. Why there is no recall for it is beyond me.
I really hope you’re right and new part is redesigned. If this one fails for me - it’s most likely going to be end of the road for me and Genesis. I’m exhausted to fight with dealer to prove defective manufacturer part, which what I had to do second time it failed.

Agreed. I have had the rear diff replaced, the throttle body, the steering rack, the water pump and the driver's side door handle replaced so far. Each of these require a 5-week order process, one of them requiring a loaner for that 5 weeks (throttle body). I hope all of these replacements are improvements and they do not re-occur, but if they do, I think I might be done too. The reliability ratings continue to be high somehow - no idea what the real percentages of failures are, but the rear diff alone should be frequent enough to impact the overall reliability ratings significantly.

It’s not a problem. Every 10k KM I go in for an oil change and new differential. Soon I’ll get a good one

Wait till your dealer says they can’t detect anything and nothing else they can do… and give you an option to go to different dealer for second opinion. And different dealers are 100km+ away… Then you will see this as the problem…

Actually pretty lucky. I have two dealers 138 mi from me and the other one is about 20 mi. I also have one in Brooklyn but I would not go to it. That's like 7 mi away but I'm pretty lucky where I live Staten Island

2023 GV70 with 2k miles..in for new rear Dif..Anthony at Lakeland Genesis has been exceptional to work with so far..should be fixed next week..gave me a loaner..fingers crossed

at least you got some use out of it, our first replacement didnt last 5 miles
H2only... did the last replacement hold up? Same question for Tomashek.

I have 1000 miles on my initial replacement installed in April, and so far good. I think it was a different part number than the original.

First replacement lasted about 5k… I have second replacement schedule end of May.

I got a new rear differential with a different part number as well. I have put on another 10,000 KM since then with no issues.

Hope I’m getting this “new”part too. What is the part number that you got?

this happened to us every week for 6 weeks before one actually got sent to our dealer

Did break-in too, as I always do. Didn’t make a difference. I’m waiting for my 3rd diff replacement…
2023 GV70 Prestige Sport. We, too, are awaiting delivery of a 3rd diff to arrive. Dealer tech confirmed same problem as previously--noise, whining, etc. Haven't had the car 12 months yet. So, although we like many options on the car, it seems that being on the third diff in less than a year is an indicator of poor quality, possible design defect; delivery of parts is uncertain, and days without the car is an issue as there have not been loaners available. Wish we had seen others' complaints prior to purchase.

With any strike of luck - may end up with “good” part replacement…, crazy.
I agree, this should not be a problem of this scale, and recall should be issued, imo.
