McGovern Automotive Group purchased Genesis of Queensbury, NY and moved operations to its Albany luxury campus which is shared with JLR and Volvo.

Don't know why Genesis dealerships in these multi-brand operations (which are quite common these days) aren't considered "standalone" as they have no connection to a Hyundai dealership, but just share a campus with other lux brands.
 
McGovern has been busy; among their other acquisitions include a MA Genesis and Hyundai franchises and are planning to start construction on new dealerships (appears separate showrooms but sharing a lot) in Danverse, MA which has numerous auto dealerships along a strip.

Don't really have an issue of Genesis and Hyundai dealerships sharing a lot for those who do smaller volume or are located in a metro area with high land prices, as long as they have separate buildings/showrooms (sharing service bays shouldn't be an issue as long as there are separate service centers located by each showroom).
 
Genesis of Cool Springs (a suburb of Nashville, TN) is a freestanding store. However, the service is integrated with Hyundai next door. I just dropped off my GV80 for its first service. Courteous, fast attention, loaner car with no problems. The building's interior and exterior are not fancy, but it's clean, and the chairs were comfortable enough.

Genesis of Cherry Hill (NJ) has completed their move to a brand new greenfield facility on Route 73 (451 NJ-73Marlton, NJ 08053) this past Monday (11.27.2023). Sure feels a bunch nicer than the shared Hyundai building.

Interesting that some of these are directly " adjacent" to their sister Hyundai dealership

Also interesting that a significant amount of luxury markets , with high volume sales per capita...dont have a dealer
Completely different strategy from Lexus as they started in the luxury markets and then fanned out

Just because the Genesis store is free standing doesn't mean that it won't be a stealership or totally incompetent. On the other hand, a combined Hyundai/Genesis store might give wonderful service.

Luck of the draw it seems then. Glad I have numerous stores to shop at. Not everyone is that fortunate. However, I'd take my chances on a dedicated brand store for non routine service.

Well...I could say I have bought from one of each.
A Hyundai dealership years ago with the Equus and a free-standing Genesis dealership with the G90

Neither was a great experience.

So far, 🤞, I have had good experience with Genesis of Scottsdale. Moved its showroom to a high end mall a few miles away from the Hyundai dealership but retaining the service at the Hyundai dealership although they are building a separate service line for Genesis.

I see a lot of Genesis vehicles here in North Scottsdale and a ton of their competitors too. A few miles away Penske has almost all the other luxury marks (Audi, Porsche, BMW, JLR, MB, Ferrari, RR, etc.) so customers have a lot of choices. I know that the first time I have one of those horrible service experiences, I would go down the road to the Penske shops. But it hasn't happened yet. Got two almost new loaners from my dealership: an electrified G80 and a GV80.
 
I skimmed this article I saw online last night as the title interested me. But it was an article from England. From what I read, the Genesis not going to be an independent company anymore. They are giving up on that and they are going to merge them with Hyundai dealers. Just the opposite of what the US is doing. Granted I did not read the entire article as it pertained t to the UK, but something someone might be interested in it. And you never know if this will spread.

Merging with Hyundai dealers has got to be a lot less expensive option.

Being able to divide the dealership overhead on some high volume( Hyundai ) vehicles would be a plus to any dealer. Hyundai dealers are also typically in lower land cost areas.

I am not sure how , culturally, things work in the UK
Americans seem to only buy mainstream luxury goods that have a luxury atmosphere associated with the buying experience.
