I skimmed this article I saw online last night as the title interested me. But it was an article from England. From what I read, the Genesis not going to be an independent company anymore. They are giving up on that and they are going to merge them with Hyundai dealers. Just the opposite of what the US is doing. Granted I did not read the entire article as it pertained t to the UK, but something someone might be interested in it. And you never know if this will spread.

I have seen that before. For example, the Acura NSX (in the USA) was sold in Europe as a Honda. Americans do seem more hung up on the entire "luxury" experience than Europeans.

Another trend I have seen is to decontent cars for the US market so they can sell them. VW had a superb SUV in the Tourag but in the US replaced it with the rather ordinary Atlas.

Yeah, it’s another example of GMA not having it’s act together and it takes months for the updates to be made. If you have time to waste, call or email their Customer Support and ask for the current list of Freestanding Genesis dedicated dealerships that are not housed in a Hyundai store.

The freestanding dealer information is only helpful if you live in an area that has one.

In my area..Indiana..there is not one
At one point there were 4 Hyundai dealers that had Genesis vehicles. Now there are 2.
They both built a Genesis " alcove" that holds 2-3 vehicles and are connected to a much larger Hyundai dealer and used a shared service drive.
Last time I called for a service appointment they told me they were 5 weeks out..LOL..and blamed the fact that there were only 2 Genesis dealers in town

I laughed and said I bet 80-90percent of your service department labor is time spent on Hyundais....and the amount of Hyundai dealers in town has not changed.

As I have said before, a combined franchise dealer could be wonderful or horrible; the same applies to a stand alone dealer; or even a hybrid dealer like mine (showroom is in an upscale mall; service is at the Hyundai dealership, albeit with a separate line being built). I think competition is the key. Where I live there are luxury dealerships about four miles away in one direction (Audi, Porsche, BMW, JLR, MB, Lexus, Ferrari, etc.) and in a slightly different direction the Genesis showroom is in a mall a mile from my house (as is the Lincoln showroom) and the Genesis of Scottsdale service is also about four miles away. So Genesis has tons of competition in the area, which I think pretty much forces it to be a good (for the customer) store. I am guessing that there is not much serious competition in your market.

Well..if competition was key why are there still so many poor experiences?
I have had two very poor buying experiences.

I don't have poor experiences. And I do expect the same standards. That is the point of my post. You have had bad experiences. What luxury make competition does Genesis have in your market and how close to the Genesis store are they? If there is a lot of competition, and Genesis is selling an inferior product (whether goods or services), the store won't last very long.

Well..two different states and several years apart

I can't access the spreadsheet so I can't tell if Genesis of Santa Rosa (CA) is on the list. If you live in NorCal and need a Genesis dealer, I highly recommend them. I live in Bend (Central) Oregon and I have all my dealer work done there. (In case you are wondering, my daughter lives in Santa Rosa, so we schedule service for a Thursday or Friday and visit with her from arrival through the weekend.)

Greater Dallas is huge as is the greater Phoenix area. My point was that the other luxury marks are only a few miles away in the same upscale area so the Genesis dealer has to be good or everyone will go just down the road. There is another Hyundai dealer down the road in South Scottsdale...not as desirable an area but still good. That dealer apparently chose not to become a Genesis dealer. But there would have been very little luxury car competition in the area. One would have to go through several busy areas to get to a Mercedes dealership, that is about all unless you count the showrooms in the mall.

Strong competition drives weak player out.

Genesis of Algonquin (Illinois) is a standalone - and actually has been since 2015 when it was turned into a Genesis only showroom & shop for Rosen Hyundai 2 buildings over. It's a bit dated in design/style - but it is standalone & has appropriate branding on the building.
Genesis of Elgin (Illinois) is standalone and is of the new, rubber-stamped, gaudy interior and exterior template that all the other recently built locations share.
Genesis of Waukesha - aka Genesis of Milwaukee (Wisconsin) is also a standalone facility.

Genesis of St Charles (MO) is now open. I dropped my GV80 there this morning. I was met by a service advisor who was expecting me and spent 20 minutes in his office discussing my vehicle. They do not have their own cashier yet so they took me to the Hyundai dealership about a mile away to complete the paperwork on the loaner vehicle, a 2024 GV80 3.5T Prestige. It has been a good experience so far.
