  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Dead battery

I'm not disagreeing here, but there are exceptions at least.
Several years back, the local Lincoln dealer did exactly that. They took an instrument cluster out of a new car on the lot and put it in mine. I think they said it would be a week or two before a replacement one would come in and they weren't going to have me wait. (Note that my new car was still drive-able, just some of the instruments didn't work.)

I agree there are some dealers who will put their customers 1st but they seem to be a dying breed. In my experience, the smaller, family owned/run places tend to be like that but the large multi-brand conglomerates not so much.

This is actually not accurate. Most dealerships make very little money selling cars, as the margins are quite slim. However, the more cars they sell, the more the manufacturer will allocate them, and they get a better selection to boot. Manufacturers want to send lots of cars to dealerships that moves lots of cars. This is the dealerships's goal, to move lots of works, and create a large set of base and repeat customers, because the dealership is playing the long game...

What's the long game? Ask any dealership insider (non-specialty vehicles) where they make the bulk of their revenue, and the answer will always be the same... Parts and Service.

That was the model for many years, but it has been shifting & they now want the front ofthe store to be a huge profit center as well. Just look at all the useless add-on's & packages, outragious fees, ADM's ect. most dealers add these days. Here in FL it's gotten obscene !!

Just so everyone is crystal clear…

I have a 2022 GV70 3.5T, and I had AutoZone deliver the following battery to my home this morning, and I swapped it out myself in 20-30 minutes - No Problem, good as new!

Does it have the same dimensions as factory battery? Nope

Does it have the same specs as the factory battery? Nope

Does it void the Battery Warranty? Who Cares?

Is it available immediately for $250, and does it work flawlessly? 100%

Hello, Please give an update on how well your GV70 replacement battery is functioning ten months later.....Thanks

No vent hole on left side? What did you do about that?

It just proves you didn't even look at the AutoZone battery and the picture of the stock battery. If you had, you could see for yourself that is totally false.

I'll say it again: use your own reasoning and stop listening to the people who keep telling you this battery is some special piece of equipment.

GROUP 65, linked to in the first page of this thread. Direct fit for a GV70. Stop making it so difficult. Find a store with this battery, buy it, take it to the dealer, and tell them to install it. At some point you have to be in charge.
What about the vent tube? Does this battery have a hole for the vent tube?

Have now been without our new GV70 for 2 weeks. The dealership was unable to jump it & reported the battery needed to be replaced. Battery is back ordered, last report was it may be in next week. So have owned the car for 3 weeks & driven it for 3 days!
My battery is still good. But if it failed, it would sit at the dealer's until they got a new one while I would be driving a loaner. Based on my conversations with the service manager, probably an ICE GV70. I haven't gone to a gas station in more than a year and don't look forward to it again but at least I am putting the miles on someone else's car. Within reason, I am okay with service delays so long as they provide me with a quality somewhat comparable loaner.

Are you saying "that battery does not fit". Or "those websites don't know what battery the gv70 uses so it says all batteries don't fit"?
My 2022 GV70 battery died at the Genesis dealer waiting for an oil change. They leave the car doors open and emer flasher on for every. They got a battery at Auto Zone and built a battery cable kit (OK with Genesis) and made a refit that will work on any batt if it fits in the hole. No charge. Just saying...

Costco has an AGM65 battery by Energizer, in Canada anyway, with 750 cca for CAD$250. Going to give it a go. Seems to have vent holes on either side, and presume you can keep the unused one tapped.

A couple of years ago in the middle of a battery shortage, my dealership at the time told me replacements for a GV70 were $500. I still don't need one, but I just had it serviced again and was curious about the price. My new dealer quoted me $300 plus $50 to install it. They also said they typically keep many on hand.

Not sure where you are but here in ON Canada, my dealer quoted me CAD $1100. I literally laughed on the phone.

I bought my 2022 GV70 preowned about 18 months ago and the battery died on me a couple of months later. I purchased a replacement from AutoZone, had it delivered to my door, and installed it myself in 15 minutes. Absolutely no issues whatsoever. I paid around $250.

Here's the link to the battery I purchased: Duralast Platinum AGM Battery BCI Group Size 65 750 CCA 65-AGM

I'm in the USA. $1100 CAD ($800 US) is obscene. Ridiculous. Some dealers are total crooks and give the brand a bad rep.
The AGM 65 is the only non-OEM that seems to work. Good luck to you.

100% agree. That's why I picked up this Energizer AGM 65 Battery from Costco today for CAD $250. Will get it in the car either tomorrow or Friday. Will report back on how it goes.

BTW, was told by a battery store that also had an AGM battery option, to keep my trickle charger connected while I change it out to keep power to the ECM, as well as avoid losing any settings. Obviously, need to wrap the positive terminal when I pull it off to prevent short, but has anyone heard of this? Does keeping the trickle charger connected make sense / or present possible issues?

I asked Mr. Google about memory savers and there was a suggestion to use a "dumb" version when using a trickle charger (see attached for that info and other options).

I would expect the warning about the "dumb" charger to be true, but don't go too old/dumb. The old chargers only used half-wave rectifiers sometimes and did not regulate over-voltage. This could damage the electronics.
When I first changed my battery, I used a variable power supply set to 12 volts and that worked. However, I had some unexpected trouble shortly after with a loose positive battery clamp. This caused a battery disconnect, and of course there was no power supply or charger keeping the memory alive. The only "setting" that I remember losing was the fog lights went back to off. My conclusion, at least in the case of the 2018 G80 is that there is no need at all to trouble with a memory saver as nothing is lost anyway.

Yeah, I had already contacted NOCO and they informed me that their Genius 5 does not have a 12V constant. You need their NOCO 10 for that. I'm not going to bother hooking any power up...just going to disconnect and re-connect the new battery and if I have to spend 20 mins re-checking settings, so be it.

Exactly - That's what I did, I just disconnected it. It didn't cause any extra grief for me at all...

So just installed the Energizer AGM group 65 battery from Costco. Not a perfect fit but it's in and currently have the NOCO 5 charging it. Going to leave it alone rest of the day or at least until I see the NOCO go into maintenance mode (going to give it min of 4 hrs).

Make sure you ask the attendant at Costco for a plug for one of the two vent holes on the battery. You only need one hole, and the battery has two.

Few physical issues to contend with:

  • The OEM battery has two little flanges that stick out at the bottom at either end (sides). There is a small receiver for this flange in the sheet metal on the floor of the passenger side only to receive it. The Energizer has no flange at the ends (has them on the long sides) to help hold it in place more securely.
  • Energizer is a bit thicker (width) than OEM, so I found it did not sit perfectly flat on sheet metal - there was a very slight rocking and could slide side to side.
    • To address both the previous, I used thin piece rubber, old mouse pad I think, and sat the battery on top. Battery was perfectly stable afterwards and absolutely no sliding side to side.
  • The OEM battery is taller, so there is about a 1"+ gap between the bracket and the Energizer battery on top. Needless to say, we don't want the battery popping up off the floor on bumps.
    • To address, I added a strip of foam (had a leftover foam rooftop kayak carrier) under the bracket. It was just thick enough that when I tightened the bolts for the bracket, it compressed it a bit. Battery as snug as a bug in a rug.
  • The posts on the Energizer don't perfectly line up with OEM, which resulted in a bolt end (part of the negative connector assembly) that sticks up through a pre-cut hole cut in the thin carpeted battery trim cover, was off by a 1/4".
    • To address, I simply notched the existing hole with an a knife.
  • Last is that the posts are more recessed down into the OEM battery. The result is that the giant assembly that connects to the + post on the battery, ended up sitting about 3/16" higher with the Energizer than with the stock battery. The end result is that the carpeted removable floor of the trunk on passenger side only, around where the side pockets are in the trunk, sticks up about that much. Barely noticeable, and once I put the OEM cargo carpet, even less noticeable, and my Tuxmat on top of it, can't see anything.
  • The vent hose connector was a bit loose in the hole in the Energizer battery, so I wrapped a bit of Teflon tape (plumbers tape) around the end, being sure not to block the end hole, and it snapped in nice and snug. Bracket will also prevent it from popping out.
Seems like a lot, but really, added about 5-10 mins or so to the install because I had everything described in my garage.

So for fellow Canucks who are not keen on giving $1100 + tax to the dealer, and rather spend CAD $293 with tax before return of the old battery, I think this is a great option. If you have a Total Battery near you, they have a much more powerful battery by Odessey, something like 950cca, which is overkill I think, for just over CAD$525 + tax. Might be worthwhile if you are in a very cold region and park mostly outside.

Next is step is performance, and only time will tell.

So just installed the Energizer AGM group 65 battery from Costco.
Thanks for the detailed info.
Curious to know if you lost any settings without using some sort of memory saver. I see other owners saying no problem, and I hope that's the case. Having to set up everything again for my wife and I isn't something I look forward to again.

Honestly, I haven't checked yet. I only turned my car on briefly because my tailgate would not go down. It would only beep 3 times. So closed it manually, then worked fine afterwards. I will tell you that for those 30 seconds or so I had the ACC power on, one of my saved radio stations was on. So good sign hopefully.
