  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2009 Genesis V8 Magnaflow Cat-Back (16497) HD VIDEO

I will probably be quieting down my exhaust by installing a Magnaflow Tru X-pipe muffler in place of the current X-pipe. I'm going to drive it as is for maybe a couple of months to see how the carbon build-up in the mufflers changes the sound but I don't think there's any getting rid of the drone sound without making the change above.

Did you ever install the Magnflow Tru? Curious to know if the drone disappeared.

I looked at Borla and think the reason for Borla's more raspy sound is the absence of the "X" pipe the MagnaFlow has.

As best I can research, the "x" pipe gains a little more power than a "H" connection.

I'm a retired Geezer and use the Genesis on LONG trips, and think that any drone would become annoying after a while. I have a MagnaFlow and intend to do a "partial install". I will keep the OEM system intact from central resonator forward, using just the MagnaFlow mufflers. I will weld a flange to the MagnaFlow pipes so I can easily restore to stock OEM.

My next stage would be to cut out the "X" pipe in the MagnaFlow and fit it in place of the rear cats, which appear to be redundant. I suspect there are connections between left and right pipes within the big OEM central resonator, which attenuate noise.

Alternatively, I can fit a couple of small straight-through "race mufflers/resonators" aft of the central resonator on a straight section of the MagnaFlow piping.

My ultimate objective is a freer-flowing exhaust with a bit more V8 sound.

I may have to drive to Salem to check this system out...
