2012 genesis sedan - price paid

Dang, I don't feel so good about the price I paid after reading this thread.

This is my first post, but I have been lurking for about 60 days.

Bought a 2012 V6 - White w/ Saddle, tech package, was "required" to purchase the ipod cable, the factory sunroof wind deflector, the locking lugnuts, and the trunk liner. Probably could have fought to make them take off deflector, but I could only find one of the color combo and I'm actually sort of liking it - I would have purchased aftermarket liner and cable.

The agree price was 38942 + TTL, but they snuck in a $55 doc fee, they used the wear him out approach, I just got tired of dealing with them.

Drove it from from the Los Angeles area to Monterey same day - LOVE IT. It was very hard at the time to find the color combo with the tech. Was going to do base, then premium, then said that, after reading all the reviews, that I would splurge a little.

I've owned multiple Infinitys, multiple BMWs and driven multiple Mercedes. I have to say that I was very impressed in the 2 days I've had it. Have driven in multiple types of traffic and roads already and very satisfied. I'm glad I got the tech and am getting the window tinting done next week and am in the process of ordering the wings - will post pictures when done..

Thanks to the group. 3 things I would do in the future, but chose not to based upon my time frame

1) Would use Motozuma (I signed up, but didn't want to wait until August 21...too hard to find the color combo and my time is worth something). This would have saved me another $500

2) I tried getting into Inner Circle, but wasn't available for sign up. - not sure how much this would have saved me.

3) Would have been more aggressive on the last getting screwed on the $55 fee - they tried to add a bunch of fees at the end, after the deal agreed to - may or may not go back to the dealership - I don't like the wear out and try to switch him techniques.

I did the 36 month at .9%

Hope my pricing helps someone get a good deal.

don't worry, every dealer in California charges $55 doc fee, which is the upper limit allowed by law. there is legislation pending to increase that to around $80 i believe.

your price is not bad. you probably paid a few hundred more than Circle price.

You should've been able to get that car for a shade under $40K.

But hell, that car is awesome. I know I'm gonna regret not springing for the Tech package.

OK guys - so I got the certificate from Hyundai Circle and it is under $40k, but I already have agreed to an offer from the dealer over the internet. Should I just present the certificate when I go to pick up the car and expect them to knock off another grand, or do I need to renegotiate?

Thanks.

you definitely need to agree on the circle price before you step into the dealership. if you simply walk in, they will try to go on the previously agreed on price. on the other hand, if you tell him on the phone you want the circle price or you won't come in, they will most likely accept the circle price.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Negotiated Circle price for 2012 4.6 over emails, will sign papers in a few days.
Net cost (before TTL, sales tax, doc fee, trade-in) $38,619.
Includes $1500 rebate and $500 Motozuma bonus.
Do you think I can do better than that?

looks good!
congratulations.
i paid 36,600 after rebate for my 2011 4.6.

Good luck with your Genesis. Seems like a great price...and thanks for mentioning the dealers. I'm car shopping in San Diego but haven't contacted any Hyundai dealers yet,

I had the dealer hunting for a Black/Black 4.6 for about 6 weeks now and he was having a really tough time getting one. He called me yesterday and asked if I'd be interested in a Black/Black R-Spec. I basically told him that was out of my price range (which wasn't a joke) and the only way I could even consider it is if the pricing was rock bottom. He said he was really trying to get sticker, but to come try it anyway. Once I got there with cash (figuratively) in hand to pay we wheeled and dealed and I have a new R-Spec :)

MSRP: 48,785 (Includes iPod Cable and Summer Tire Option)
Dealer Add-Ons Trim/Edge Guards, Pin Stripe, Nitrogen ($1,095 LOL)
Total initial asking $49,960

Negotiated Price: $43,950
Rebates: $2,000 (Competitive/Moto)
Final Price: $41,950 +TT&L

Sweet deal. Enjoy it. I got my r-spec last weekend and I'm still grinning from ear to ear.

$38,127 for 3.8 v6 with both tech and premium packages, plus ipod cable, wheel locks, and trunk cargo. Also includes $1500 rebate. Did not include tax and tags. Price was basically $800 under invoice (costco auto program price)

Seemed like a good price

It's great that forums like this one are out there. It has always seemed unfair how the price a buyer pays can vary so much and how big a hassle negotiating can be.

That's why the internet is such a good thing. When I purchased-I let my fingers do the walking 8-)!

Greetings guys and gals,

First timer here. We are about to pull the trigger on a Genesis with premium package. Have learned much by scouring the previous nine pages.

Does this look ok to you?

MSRP: $39,850
Invoice: $ 37,228
Sales price: $34,400 plus $500 dealer fee = $34,900
Plus license and misc fees of $347 and 6.25% tax
Out the door: $37,450

Can I, or should I ask them to install my emblems for front, rear, and wheels as a courtesy? I'm getting those from Ebay.

Any other token items I should ask for such as the tookit or ipod cable? So far all has been smooth and I'm not anticipating any last minute shady surprises. (But I did unfortunately get a bit of that when I bought my Infiniti G35)

Much appreciated!!!

I think I got a great deal. Live in CT and just bought a 2012 Genesis 3.8 with Tech and Performance packages - Black/Saddle. The sticker was $43,850 (including freight).

I leased the car for 3 years @ 15K miles for $395.00/mo including the CT tax. I did put $5,000 down.

Purchase price of car was $39,500 less $1,500 customer loyalty equals $38,000.

I just bought my titanium gray/saddle 3.8 with Premium on Saturday for $35,037 plus TTL.
I was going to go through Hyundai Circle but got a better price through truecar.

Pearl White, 3.8L V6, Tech/prem pkg and all the other "extras".

$38,500 ($1630 under the invoice). Add the $1500 I got from Hyundai for trading my '06 Sonata, and that's $37,000. They actually gave me a check for $1100 more than what I owed on the 2006 Sonata, so that dropped price to $35,900.

Does not include sales tax and the 'fair' documentation fee of $389 that all dealers can charge under state law. Of course, I then added other items like the extended warranty, etc but at a substantial discount as well.

Another thing I really like is that FULL COVERAGE insurance for my V6 Genny is $240/half vs $360/half I was paying for the 2006 Sonata! That comes out to $240 x 6 yrs = $1440 which I figure lowers the price of the car as well, since it is savings I can apply wherever I want. We are well pleased with the Genny. ;)

Good news and bad news. The good news is that I just purchased a 2012 Genesis 4.6 for $38,512 plus TTL. That figure includes the $1,500 competitive rebate and the $500 Motozuma incentive. My total out-the-door price including 5% sales tax, title, and license was $40,662. I think I got a pretty good price.

The bad news is that I don't think I like the car. I know that sounds crazy, but I purchased the car yesterday in Virginia and drove it back to Maine where I live. The things I don't like about the car include the color - both interior and exterior. The exterior is cabernet red and much darker than I had anticipated. It's definitely darker than how it appeared in photos. The interior color is cashmere and I'm finding it very cold and washed out. The Genesis that I test drove locally before deciding to purchase one was a 2011 that had a black interior, and I, since I prefer lighter-colored interiors, I went with the cashmere. And the cold harsh cabin lighting makes it even worse at night. I'm also finding that there still seems to be a somewhat harsh ride and quite a bit of tire noise even though I thought that Hyundai had those issues in their 2012 design. Having come from a 2004 Lincoln LS Ultimate, the Genesis also seems a bit big and ponderous by comparison and not as fun to drive.

I know this sounds crazy, and I'm hoping that these first impressions will change. I even called the dealer to see if there was any way we could undo the deal. He says that there's nothing he can do because I financed it. I had intended to pay cash but decided to finance it when I found out that Hyundai was offering money at only 0.9%. I didn't realize how that would complicate things.

So that's my story - sad but true. Not sure of my next move. I'm wondering now if maybe I should have bought an Infinity M or Cadillac CTS or maybe even a Lincoln MKZ or Lexus ES. I may check with local dealers to see how much of a bath I'd have to take on a trade.

Just bought mine today....3.8 with tech, premium, wheel locks, cargo tray and I-pod cable for $38,000 + TTL. How'd I do?

I paid 38,200 for exact same setup (which included the $1500 rebate). It was basically $800 over invoice (the costco auto program price) then less the $1500 rebate.

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt but your story is a little hard to believe. I think in most states you have 24 hrs to break a contract
so as long as the car was not titled you should have been able to get out of the deal, may have had to pay something for the miles you put on the car but that is not unreasonable.
When you test drove the car you would have had to have known it was larger than you Lincoln LS. However, for what it is worth you are not the first person this has happened to.
The tires may quiet down a little after you put some miles on them but I have found that these tire can generate a little tire noise when traveling on rough asphalt and concrete pavement but are pretty quiet on smooth surfaces.
I test drove a 2012 4.6 and found the ride going over rough pavement to be better than previous years but for someone coming out of a Lincoln LS it would take a little getting use to, also keep in mind you are now riding on 18" wheels.
Were do you go from here? The Lexus ES, Cadillac CTS, and Lincoln MKZ will all give you the ride that you are looking for and they are all about the size that you are use to. If you just have to trade I think you would get a better deal with going for the MKZ. I am not saying that the MKZ is the better car and I am not saying that it is not but dollar wise I think you would get the best deal and get a car that I think you would be please with but keep in mind that the lighting in the MKZ is pretty much like the lighting in the Genesis but you can change the color of the lighting in the MKZ. I like the blue lighting in the Genesis it is almost one of my favorite features.
I do not care for the CTS as I do not like the dash design. I scraped my leg getting into the car on the dash corner and knew that it was not the car for me as I did it more than once.
After a bad experience with a new 2007 Lexus LS 460, I am no longer a Lexus fan but I think you would be happy with the Lexus ES, I am just not sure about the deal that you would get.
Now, you could always go back to the the Genesis dealer and ask them to let you trade for another color, they may in good faith allow you to do so at a very minimal cost.
I have a 2010 Genesis 4.6 and am considering a 2012 Genesis 4.6. I too am use to cars that travel over rough roads a little better than the Genesis but I do not think the Genesis is the worst in this area. I also looked at the MKZ before I purchased the Genesis and have been thinking about it as I look at trading for the 2012 Genesis 4.6,my concern with my Genesis is that the audio and nav have failed on me several times and it looks like Hyundai as not come up with a sure fix yet. I just do not care for the MKZ key pad on the door, prop rod hood, and hand brake. I have own Lincoln's and know all about the Key pad on the door but into days world I just cannot see it. I also have problems with the MKZ size but I love the ride and the Sync system. The MKZ 6cyl engine can be a little noisy at throttle up but settles down when you reach and settle into speed.
The Genesis is still the car for me as IMO you just get so much for your money, it has for the most part been dependable and on the highway it is a real performer.

Good Luck to you..................
