Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I do not know, guys, but as of May 24, there are 3 pages of dislikes, and not even one full page of likes for this highly anticipated car. I do not even have my 2013 RSPEC yet, and I am anxious to get it, and if the price was justified, I would have easily gone for the 2015 model. AWD and blind spot monitoring are wonderful additions, regardless of any other minor shortcomings. And the interior is much more dramatic.

Either way, both the 013 and 015 are nice offerings, and whichever you own, be proud. No car is perfect, save for those in the 6 figure range, and even those can have their faults, but I am happy to be returning to the Hyundai family, and in just another couple of weeks, I will be there.

Probably partially due to the fact so few who own it yet. It appears to become more "liked" when driven. I am a bit let down overall - I have seen them three times now at dealers and have not been as blown away as I would have hoped. At some angles, the car is lost on the lot amongst the other Hyundai models. I walked by one twice today on a dealer lot and did not notice it as I looked for one.

I would rather have an honest thread of dislikes to help those who consider the car - nothing is as good as a drive, but it is better if this board is just not a cheerleading section for the car.

Rear chrome on New Gemesis vs New Sonata. Which do you like more?

Not a fan of chrome, but that picture shows why the rear of the new Genesis is getting panned by many - it looks like a Sonata.

While I'm definitely on the less is more camp when it comes to chrome accents, the rear of the Genesis is missing something.

(thanks gameday)

W/ the lights on, quite a diff. look but that's only when it gets dark (or braking).

Hyundai designers should have added more of the HCD-14 to the rear.

Anyhow, find it hilarious that Lexus owners are saying that the rear of the Genesis looks like a Lexus when the rear of the GS looks like a Sonata.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

It looks like Hyundai Canada is not expecting the 5.0 Ultimate to hold its value. A 3 year lease with interest @ 2.99% comes to over $49,800, take the interest out its still more than $43,000.

I pay cash for my vehicles, and use the lease figures to determine expected resale. I buy a new vehicle every 3-4 years. If this is not an error on their web site I'll have more shopping to do. :(

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I went to the dealer today and to check out my 2013 Rspec. There was a blue 3.8 premium 201 Genesis that just arrived. Not particularly crazy about this model but it was okay. Will prefer when I get my RSPEC next week.

The dealer showed me that there is no place to put the front license plate except on the massive grill itself. And not even on the bottom of the front grille. Has anybody had any experience with this?

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

The more I read and learn about the 2015, the more I am comfortable with my decision to go with the GS350 awd. Genesis is a wonderful car chock full of technology but I kept reminding myself that this is a car and not a computer purchase. I only wish that the 5.0 awd was available in NA. The 3.8 awd does not enjoy great mpg nor does it blow you away with 0-60 numbers. Just too heavy but surely very very comfortable.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

tompass I'm looking at the 2015 G vs a GS350 loaded but without AWD. I believe the GS stickers for about $5000 more than a 3.8 Ultimate.

When you factor in the poor resale value of a Genesis, the GS may be the way to go. I'm still convinced Lexus is far more reliable than Hyundai even though I never owned a Lexus.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Major dislikes vs my 2013 V6...exterior door handle trim looks cheap like an aftermarket product.....the unpainted lower fascia/exhaust panel is horrible on lighter cars ....the base V6 grille is notched at center makes it look wrong.....no chrome bling/accents on the rear of car = blah ...Integration of exhaust into overall rear panels looks cheap...the black pearl/ metallic paint looks immature....the sunroof cover is just a piece of cloth with no insulation for sound or heat....and the sunroof cover can not be opened for front or rear only it is either all open or all close ....the seats in the base v6 =blah...the trimmed ones on C&C /tech pkg are nice .....seating position a little to deep in the bathtub vs the 2013..I will wait for mid cycle refresh..and hope changes are made ...i am glad i wasn't blown away by the 2015 really like the 2013 and think it looks classier ..oh prefer Michelins/wheel centers on 2013 vs Hankook on 2015 with exposed lug nuts on wheels ...wing emblem front H on rear on 2015 =duh

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

LA Genesis-You are correct about disparity in price but I purchased a CPO 2013 AWD so virtually same car as 2014. Both models use the 6 speed in the AWD. $42500 with 3 year 100K B/B. Will continue though to keep an eye on the Genesis over next couple of years. Performance and handling of GS are outstanding. I knew I would have difficulty adjusting from performance of 4.6 to 2015 3.8. Reports claim 1.5 second 0-60 difference. I am not a red light racer but enjoy a car that is responsive.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

2."Flapping in the breeze" is too strong, but yes, there was a noticeable undulation of the trailing edge of the hood that made the reflection constantly change in size and intensity = annoying.

I specifically looked for the flapping hood and it was not an issue at all on my vehicle. I'm wondering if something was loose on the one I test drove previously.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I'd like the drive mode to stay from the last option selected rather than returning to the default "Normal each time you shut off the engine.

I can understand why the drive mode defaults to normal when the car is turned off. The driving experience is very different between the settings. I found myself toggling between modes on my 130 mi. trip home today. Eco is great for highway cruising in steady flow traffic. However, if traffic slows, it is more than happy to lug along at 1000 rpm. You really need sport for the oomph needed for sudden lane changes. Sport mode automatically bumps up your rpm 500-1000 rpm over eco.

I wish the toggle switch was located on the steering wheel or even on the gear select lever so it is easier to find.

The interior quality of the 2015 Genesis is a joke. The door panels feel so flimsy compared to the previous genesis. No more air vents going through the door, poor door padding, the dash is hard plastic and looks too flat and drab.
Not enough chrome accenting..

A poor effort. Not to mention the increased weight, which has obviously hampered performance

There are a few cost savings design changes in the interior design that I noticed on my test drive (2015 3.8 Tech):
  • bluetooth microphone now integrated into roof console vs. separate above driver.
  • rear shade control now on the dash vs. door next to memory settings.
  • change to hard plastic in door pulls vs. leather wrap
  • Air vents no longer in door

Have you even sat in one? There is nothing flimsy on the interior. I'm assuming you're talking about the upper dash when you say hard plastic -- it's not. What do you want air vents in the door for? There are vents under both seats and out the rear of the center console for the backseat. Not to mention the lack of air vents in the door allows other things like significantly improved sound isolation. Zero is the right amount of chrome for a luxury interior. If you're referring to the rear exterior maybe, but switching to the larger wing emblem helps that a bit.

Increased weight is a legitimate gripe if performance was on the top of your list, but it was traded for a far better ride, a stiffer chassis, and a superb safety rating (judging from the videos it may be the best on the road, certainly bests the S80 and RLX). Yes, I wish they could've done that 500lbs lighter, but I personally couldn't afford the resulting price of my 5.0 Ult.

True, but I like it better there. I was a little surprised they don't have one in the back for RWD models. The rear control for the shade appears to be bundled with heated rear seats.

I didn't notice this on my own car until I read it on another post. It is a little surprising though.

Only performance that it has somewhat hampered is 0-60. Officially the Hyundai figures for the previous Gen are 5.1 there are a few that claim even down to 4.7 but I take those with a grain of salt. As for the new Gen, officially it is at 5.2 so I would say not much difference. The more important part is getting it to the ground and the handling that goes with it. The new Gen will easily outperform the old in this respect. Couple that with awd and bye bye. :D
