I had a 30 min road test in the 3.8 after looking with Rep. a couple of days
prior to avoid having to drive with a destracting sales person. This is car is
enjoyable to drive, I was immediately engaged feeling one with car. The seats
feel significantly better, softer response over bumps and uneven road, higher
dead pedal.
However, I did not like:
1. The windshield view/feel due it being flat
2. The rear view is more limited due to the stream lined angle and the center
headrest does not fold down as with the 1st Gen.
3. The sound of the engine was a bit odd, not refined that may improve after
break in.
4. The excelleration was delayed each time punched from 40 to 80 mph., able
to feel and hear the gear change, not in my Genny.
5. Did not like the top of the dashboard/glossy faux wood combo, felt cheap
not like in a true luxury car and the gloss reflected to much sunlight, the
matte will look better to me.
6. The use of brushed aluminum instead of chrome color for the exterior trim
is disappointing.
7. The rear trunk has not accent trim, to plain for those of us who love detail.
8. The smaller trunk space, not major but enough to mention.
9. The engine bay is not as impressive, just a cover but should look as good
as the first generation.
10. I missed the power the heft that I'm acustomed to my car, no trade in for
me this time around, it's too early.![]()
I have a new dislike. Fit and finish. It's been 3 weeks and I just noticed the rear corner of the hood on the passenger side is raised greater than a 1/8" where it meets the front quarter panel. Standing over it, it is hardly noticeable, but it is very annoying from the perspective of the driver's seat. The other 3 corners are perfect and there doesn't appear to be any evidence of any event that could have caused this. I didn't see an obvious adjustment but I plan on taking a closer look tomorrow.
Depot, don't know if anyone else has touched on what you did; re: the drop in power; 333 vs 311. It seems Hyundai gave up power for tech; right now I'm feeling like you; disappointed, and trying to figure out if they have "down-tuned" the engine, because it seems to be the same as the one in our vehicles.
I thought the same thing looking from the driver's seat, but my panels are perfectly aligned if I check outside. It is just unfortunate that the view from inside catches the corner of the hood in a way that liiks unaligned.

+1You ever notice how many “likes” there are in the “dislikes” thread.
I drove a V6 2015 last Friday, and this really bothered me too. Seriously, why would they not put fog lights on a premium luxury sedan? The car has ventilated seats. Automatic rain sensing wipers. My Santa Fe has fog lights. The Sonata has fog lights. The Elantra has fog lights. Hell, the Accent has fog lights!!! This is a serious omission, especially for somebody who lives in a low lying coastal area where we get incredibly dense fog.
Other than that, the car is amazing. But I just don't know if I can bring myself to buy a $40,000 car with no fog lights. This is just stupid. It makes about as much sense as the Hyundai/Kia cars where only the driver's seat is ventilated.
After 4 days in the new Ultimate 3.8, the only thing I found not to like is the too-small cup holders. Especially the rear cup holder which is a little smaller than the front one. found that my insulated cup fits in the front one OK, but iwill not fit in the rear one....
I want an AWD 3.8 Ultimate. No dealer within 200 miles has what I want. The local dealer suggested I may have to order what I wanted. It would take 90 days. I ask if it would be built at the factory to my requirements. He said yes. Ok then tell them I want to add in fog lights. He looked at me a little funny. I pointed out the 5.0 has fog lights and all Canadian 3.8 have fog lights as standard. Same body style. Without even giving it a try he said it was impossible. I didn't place an order.Long time ago when I special ordered a Porsche I got special consideration about something I wanted.
Yes, the second cup holder is useless unless you drink from 12 oz. cans because that is about the only thing that will fit there. 16 oz. juice or Gatorade bottles don't fit. 95% of the time I'm driving by myself so it doesn't bother me, but it is a stark contrast to have a car with 4 cup holders (only 2 if 5 people in car) compared to my wife's minivan which seems to have an estimated 37 cup holders
I just seen a 2015 Genny driving right next to me and then it made a right turn. It looked CHEAP especially with than small 3.8 emblem on the trunk lid, let alone the flying H on top of the deck..Black slits where fog light should be. I was confused for a minute, then identified it as a genny.I was disappointed.
To me generation one never looked better!
Italia, In my opinion the engine displacement emblem looks cheap! They should of left it off. Too bad about Italy in the world cup.
