2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I have a lot of glare in the windshield from the shiny plastic surrounds of the HUD and the speaker in the center of the dash when the sun is low. That is probably my biggest complaint after 1200 miles. I have not noticed the problem in the rear window. The shiny plastic should be matte black.

I've seen the same from the HUD surround when the sun is low, but not from the speaker. In any event, it's not a real problem to me, but could be improved - ideally, a matte black suede would work here?

I also do see a decent amount of reflections in the back window when the sun shade is down. However, it's usually up and it's not a real problem to me anyhow. I think the issue is that, even though I have the black interior (3.8 AWD Ultimate, Empire State Gray/Black), the back window deck area is covered in the lighter gray headliner material instead of being black too. Again, an area for improvement, but not a big issue (at least for me).

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Sorry, but in this case, it's "Gray" as per Hyundai's own website:

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

The list:

-Lack of fog lights on the V6.
-The trunk, gas and rear shade buttons need to be move back to the door and away from all the safety features. The switches on the lower left of dash are very hard to see or turn on or off.
-The top of the dashboard is hard plastic, rather than the soft touch material
-The vents in the dash are not symmetrical
-Parking sensors work 50% of the time
-When the traffic starts moving again, smart cruise control lags too much which makes other drivers impatient
-Smart cruise control doesn't work well on curvy roads
-If you're manually opening the trunk, the motor needs to let go and allow the trunk to open easily instead of having so much resistance
-Bad voice recognition when entering address
-Outdated navigation maps
-Temperature & radio volume controls need to be more distinct from each other
-Rear view camera has a bad quality
-Lack of surround view camera
-Rear cup holders are small
-Drive mode and autohold don't revert to their last settings every time you start the car
-HUD doesn't display current gear/rpm while in manual mode

-No autonomous breaking when someone runs a red light
-Lack of pedestrian/cyclist detection feature
-Lack of an auto parking feature

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I want an AWD 3.8 Ultimate. No dealer within 200 miles has what I want. The local dealer suggested I may have to order what I wanted. It would take 90 days. I ask if it would be built at the factory to my requirements. He said yes. Ok then tell them I want to add in fog lights. He looked at me a little funny. I pointed out the 5.0 has fog lights and all Canadian 3.8 have fog lights as standard. Same body style. Without even giving it a try he said it was impossible. I didn't place an order. :) Long time ago when I special ordered a Porsche I got special consideration about something I wanted.

For $50K they should be standard. The Excel and Elantra both have them

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

No big deal, just remove it and the flying H if you do not like it. I will remove the words Genesis on the back. One side will have Tau V8 the other The original HTRAC 5.0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=uVRCki2FYls and of course the wings on the trunk. May even do fender candy V8's  The beauty of this is it is simply stick on and no damage done if you change your mind. ;)

Except the Tau V* isn't available in the HTRAC..3.8 only

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

No I didn’t notice the vents were now under the front seats. Besides the one on the rear of center console. I’ll have to look closer but you’re right the AC works great in front or rear. Thanks.

The '09 has rear side, under rear seats and rear console ventilation.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Under driver and passenger seats that is...

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

uhmm yeah I did sit in it. From what I see with the 2015 Genesis Hyundai did take great cost cutting measures to improve their profit.

Just look at photos of the previous gen & 2015 Genesis.

Previous gen. Thick door, well padded that feel substantial and have those nice 'Lexus' retractable door pockets

2015 Genesis door. Cheap & flimsy door. Where is the luxury?

For comparison, Lexus door.

Interesting and not pointed out is the Lexicon speaker space on the door is greatly reduced. Appearently reduced the speaker sizes to fit the smaller cavity.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

On the '15, the tweeter in the door is moved up whereas in the previous model it is all behind one grill. I can't speak to the size difference in the speakers themselves but the sound system in the ultimate is phenomenal. Also, the plastic on the top of the dash is not hard as others have alluded to. It is soft as is most of the plastic. I am basing this on my ultimate but I presume that goes across the board.

My dislikes are:
- HUD should have turn signal indicators
- all around cameras should be available in US
- lack of DRL fog lights in 3.8 is ridiculous
- base car has front hazards (I think rear too) that 'strobe' the LEDs in the headlamps; ultimate does not (not sure of other models)
- I would LOVE rear fog lights
- general observation is that the US versions don't have nearly the same level of add-ons like the rest of the world (Korean version even has a speed camera detector!)

The new doors look way better than the first gen. Not only that, the first gen squeaked when pressure was on it as well as rattles from the bass.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I agree. The new door treatment is a definite improvement over my 2009.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Specifically on the mentioned speaker topic; if you look at the actual speaker outlines within the speaker grill on the 1st gen you'll notice that they would fit within the second gen speaker cover if they were arranged efficiently. That being said, it looks like they just moved the tweeter up into the door trim. I'm not claiming to be an audio expert, but IIRC higher frequencies are more sensitive to having a direct path to the ear and this could theoretically produce better (or at least more staged) sound.

The 3.8 ultimate trim seems to have a softer top dash than the other trim levels. I test drove a signature+tech trim and I own the ultimate trim model and there is a distinct difference.

The softer dash top in the Ultimate may come as a result of the HUD. That requires a different assembly. My dash top is firm but soft when pressed.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

On Gen 1 there is also a high range tweeter opposite the side mirror. I cannot recollect if the '15 has one there too- cannot discern from the photo.

New doors are more Audi A6 like- thinner, cleaner build. Never had a creak or rattle in my '09

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Yes, the second cup holder is useless unless you drink from 12 oz. cans because that is about the only thing that will fit there. 16 oz. juice or Gatorade bottles don't fit. 95% of the time I'm driving by myself so it doesn't bother me, but it is a stark contrast to have a car with 4 cup holders (only 2 if 5 people in car) compared to my wife's minivan which seems to have an estimated 37 cup holders

Actually I like the smaller rear cupholder. It perfectly fits a 500 ml/16.9oz water or drink plastic bottle that I often bring to the car. It is just what I needed!
I recently had a terrible failure of the nav system taking me to AND from a suburban location in NJ. It took me a weird extra long way through city streets when the highway was nearby. Both ways! Who provided the software for their GPS nav?
But overall i love the 3.8 AWD Ultimate. Plenty of power, and I bought it for the autonomous driving feature which are excellent. The tech systems work beautifully.

Are you the sure “shortest route”, “fastest route is set right”? That might explain it. Agreed the safety features are one of the primary reasons for my purchase and I’m definitely not disappointed. I’m amazed at how well those systems work. The top crash tests honors are significant also. Though I never hope to verify them.
