2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

+1

I seldom used the fog lights on the 2009. It would be nice to have them on the 2015, but not at any substantial cost.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

What model gets the suede headliner? I would think the Ultimate model would get it but all I have is plain material. Weird combos hyundai has set up.

I think the Canadian models have it (their version of the ultimate) maybe other countries. Not us,would be nice.

Yes the Canadian model get the suede headliner. FYI it only comes on the 5.0 which is only available here fully dressed and HTrac.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Alcantara- it is a fabric not true suede

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Not sure how many have noticed yet or not but thought to mention if you don't have the 17 speaker Lexicon system it will not play DVD Audio (disc not recognized), I'm not sure if it was this way with the older models.

Can someone with a 17 speaker Lexicon system verify if the 2015 will indeed play DVD-A discs? I purchased a many DVD-A audio discs on my current car for my listening pleasure- literally a world of difference in detail sound vs. compressed MP3s.

On 2009-2014 Genesis, only the 17-speaker Lexicon can play discrete surround sound recorded on a DVD-A disc. Discrete surround sound means that the recording itself has at least 5 channels (left, right, middle, left rear, right rear) plus subwoofer channel in the recording itself. There is not a lot of music recorded that way.

Both the 14 and 17 speaker systems can synthesize surround sound from a stereo (2-channel) source by electronically creating the subwoofer and rear surround channels (with appropriate delay).

Surround sound processing for home theater systems was the product that Lexicon was known for when Harman International purchased them.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

After 2 days only 2 fairly minor "dislikes"

1. rear sunshade makes a quiet rattle when lowered. The thing is, the car is so eerily quiet that this rattle is audible :) and i'm pretty anal about all these rattles since my 2010 Gen was completely rattle free for 5 years I had it, unlike my previous Acura TSX and VW Golf, which were rattle boxes on the wheels.

2. Driver seat cooling - I'm not getting it just yet. The back is cooled just fine, but the bottom cushion, well, wither I don't feel it, or its cooling is very subtle. Tried all settings.

I don't have any DVD-A discs (was an SACD guy :)). However, I just played a Star Wars DVD and it played in full surround sound in my 3.8 AWD Ultimate (sounded pretty amazing too - sound and picture). Based on that, I think it's likely that DVD-A discs will play too - but can't say for sure.

DVD-A is the basically same audio as on a DVD without the video.

I am not 100% sure about the 2015, but on 2009-2014 Genesis, only the 17-speaker Lexicon would play music (or DVD Soundtracks) on a DVD or DVD-A. These music sources can contain music recorded with 5.1 or 7.1 channels (the .1 is the subwoofer channel). This is same as most home theatre receivers.

Both the 14-speaker and 17-speaker Lexicon systems will take a stereo source and recreate the center, rear, and subwoofer channels. Anyone who knows about home theater sound, knows that the rear channels must have a delay built in to it, in order to simulate the experience of a realistic listening hall (the rear sound bounces off the rear walls of a concert hall and returns to the listeners ears, but is more time delayed than would occur in the small confines of a car interior).

I suspect the 14-speaker and 17-speaker Lexicon systems on the 2015 are similar to the 2009-2014 in terms of sound processing (but the 2015 has lots of other updates made to other parts of the system such as Nav, voice response, blue-tooth, phone integration, etc).

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

A criticism has come up regarding of all things the sleeping position of the seats. On long trips my wife likes to put the seat back and sleep. In the prior car a 2011 Genesis the seat back was perfect for that and she was very comfortable. Not so on the new one. While the seat is years ahead in driving comfort it isn’t for sleeping. While I think the design of the seat is perfect for driving that same design sacrifices seat back down position sleeping. Don’t get me wrong it’s definitely livable just not as comfortable as the old car with it is not so cupped seat back.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I guess I've been luck and not had a lot of issues with my new Genesis. I did have an issue this morning with the 12v power outlets. Both of them are dead and the Bluetooth sucks power quickly if you are streaming audio or on a call.

I have only plugged in very reputable USB converters. I'm guessing it's simply a fuse. I'll take a look tonight.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Only had 30 min or so with a 3.8, but here we go:

1. A lil' porky => slow.
2. Dated engine => thirsty for its size & performance
3. Pretty bad depreciation => scary leasing quotes.
4. Needs separate showroom, separate website, needs to drop the Hyundai association altogether. $56k car cannot be sold next to an Accent. Personally I don't care about this, but 99% of the ppl who will spend that kind of dough will.
5. Stupid configured optional packages => traditional buyers of European cars will be turned off.

Don't you think I'm only bashing it, here are my likes http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showpost.php?p=155022&postcount=318

The engine performs well compared with the 2015 Honda Accord in this respect. The Genesis V6 has 14% worse fuel economy but weighs 21% more and it has 12% more power. If it weighed the same as the Accord it would have better fuel economy. The weight is to blame. The V6 Genesis also gets 81.84 HP per liter displacement compared with the Accord's 79.43 HP per liter displacement.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Is anyone that buys a big v8 engine really all that concerned about gas mileage? I'm sure not. I want it big, strong and capable of getting me down the road lightning fast. I know it's not a z1 formula corvette or whatever they call them. It's a Hyundai and proud of it. I really don't care how much it weighs. Hell I haven't even opened the hood of my 2015 yet. I probably only opened the hood on my 2012 r-spec about 10 times in three years. Lol. That's just my opinion. :/

Not sure if you were responding to me or not but I was talking about the V6 and pointing out that it is a pretty good engine when compared with other vehicles.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

It was just a general comment about a big v8 power plant.

I think the Honda Accord V6 has Variable Cylinder Management, so when cruising at highway speeds it can operate with as few as 3 cylinders to get 21 MPG city and 34 MPG highway.

Ditto... Don't care about mileage. Traded in my 2002 Honda Civic SI which got 30mpg. Going from a shoe box to a concert hall and going to love being inside that large cockpit. Yeah, my annual gas bill is going up $1000 but I have already budgeted for it before I bought the car so no big deal.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Correct. But I thought Genesis wants to be luxury and compete with the Krauts. Therefore my comparison. Although a very good car for its class, Accord is entry level, nothing to do with luxury. Can't compare a $50k car with a $25k.

The weight is to blame.

That too. But even if the Germans are also heavy or heavier however, they have lighter, more powerful, more efficient engines. Then again, you're paying the price for that.

I'm sure better engines is what Hyundai is working on as we type. At the same time I don't think you can get a complete 5-series replica at 75% of the price. I'm positive a 3rd gen Genny could deliver everything a 5-series deliver BUT at the same price or very close. Something's gotta give.
