2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Dude, I am pretty computer and AV savvy, but I dont even know what a DVD-A IS. Is that really an important format?

DVD-Audio is a pretty much dead high resolution, surround sound music format. Similar, but imho, inferior to SACD (Super Audio CD), which is also pretty much a dead format - but the sound quality of both is fantastic and some of us still have discs and players in our home setups!

Agree and disappointing the formats never took off. Some of the discs are classics (SACD-DSOTM) and on a good surround set-up are spectacular and immersive. I have some where DVD-A was excellent compared to some so so SACD's.The content never was enough and also some were much better than others. I'm still holding onto mine....

Agreed... In fact, I think I'll break out some SACD's and do some listening right now - next up Aerosmith Dream On in multichannel DSD :)

Re: Navigation problems

I have had several Maxima's with pretty good Nav systems. I have the Genny 3.8 AWD Ultimate but I have had serious problems with the Nav. It has sent me on stupid back roads a number of times for NO reason. This is in areas I know well and other areas I don't. I have it set for faster time, and nothing about toll roads is relevant. It there something wrong with their algorithms? Or is something I can't find set wrong? This is really the only thing I don't like about this car but it really is annoying as hell!

+1 REALLY annoying!

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Why is there no 12v socket in the rear for passengers in the back? The two supplied outlets are also too far forward..I hate seeing cords and having to leave it open when charging devices...

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

The Genesis is so good that it is being compared to BMW, Audi, and Mercedes. But people with roughly 35k will be looking at cars in that range. People will be comparing the loaded Accord with the base Genesis even if the reviewers aren't.
I was shopping for a loaded Accord EX V6 in 2009, and the Honda dealer I was at owned a Hyundai dealership right next door, so I wandered over there on foot. I ended up with a 2009 Genesis. The tipping point for me was that a Genesis was available without a sunroof, and a decently equipped Accord (and most other comparable cars) came standard with sunroof. I wanted the extra headroom and went with Genesis.

+2

Hopefully this can be addressed with a software upgrade.

That is an oversight in a luxury sedan I would expect to see corrected in a mid year refresh.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I was driving on a very dark curvy road that I use frequently and I realized something was different about the lighting especially around the turns. It then dawned on me this car doesn’t have the headlight turning feature my 2011 did. I know a lot of people question it’s usefulness but it really made a difference on this road. I know because I traveled it with my 2011 and my Infiniti G which also has the feature and for me it makes a big difference.
I knew it wouldn’t have it but I figured…nothing that can be done about that. Now I know when I drive my G on that road there’s a big difference. Didn’t realize how much I would miss it on the Genesis.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I don't like the fact that both outlets are keyed. I changed one to always on. One in the console would be nice. It could possibly be added. I know one can be added inside the console, but i am not sure about the back of the console.

From the Hyundai Canada website...

HID HEADLIGHTS
For increased safety, an Adaptive Front Light System takes in the vehicle’s speed and steering direction to precisely control lighting direction to exactly where you need it.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

From the Hyundai Canada website...

The USA cars don't have the "Steering headlights". I wasn't aware the Canadian ones do. But then again there are quite a few differences between the Canadian and USA cars.

From the American Hyundai website

High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlights: With LED turn signal indicators; more effectively illuminate the road at night; Includes:
Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFLS) with auto-leveling and automatic headlights. Lights point into a turn using steering angle sensors for added illumination of the road — High Beam Assist: Automatically switches from high to low beams when an oncoming vehicle is detected or when approaching another vehicle

Apparently they do so I have to question their effectiveness. On my older Genesis it was very pronounced.

The website is wrong - they don't turn! They do auto-level, though.

I was right in my first post. The manual has no mention of that feature.
Wish I had back.

The Canadian site is wrong also, no North American Genesis have directional lights, only auto level.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Ya got to figure they left out a lot of features In the 2015 MY so they can re-introduce them later on. This seems like a brand new Genesis from Hyundai and not just a MY change. This car is more Hyundai than the past. It looks more like a Hyundai than the previous MY. Same thing with the Equus I bet. It may look more Hyundai like. I'm thinking that the first Genesis and Equus was a huge experiment to see if the public would buy a high end Hyundai. Now they will be incorporating the design closer to the normal Hyundai design. That way they can keep a cohesive line instead of separating the luxury brand off. Just my opinion..

I was thinking they were trying to add more feature differentiation between the Genesis and the Equus.
